Drink Deep by Chloe NeillDon’t forget, tonight is our group read chat. All the details can be found here. You know you want to talk about Sookie, Eric, Jason and Debbie Pelt with us tonight as we talk Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris.

I’m still on my reading high from My Life as a White Trash Zombie (review), so let’s get into the good stuff.

Read Chapter One (and a smidge of two) of Drink Deep
Still reeling from the end of Chloe Neill’s Hard Bitten (VBC review)? Knowing we’re all dying to know what’s going to happen to Merit & Co., Chloe just posted the first chapter (and a smidge of the second) from Drink Deep. The fifth in the Chicagoland Vampires series, Drink Deep is set to release on Nov. 1. (Pre-order Drink Deep)

As a bonus CV tidbit, the sixth book will be called Biting Cold and will tentatively release in September 2012.

New series from Joey W. Hill
Joey W. Hill, author of the Vampire Queen novels, is launching the Arcane Shot series. Published by Berkley, the first book, Something About Witches, is set to hit shelves in Feb. 2012.

Here’s the synopsis for this paranormal romance:

Ruby Night Divine is a witch who runs a gun shop. Magic can fail – she knows that first hand, having experienced it with full-blown tragic consequences, far beyond what Dr. Phil can fix. Smith & Wesson is a whole hell of a lot more reliable, and nothing’s as cathartic as the ability to put a few holes in the things that piss you off. Like Derek Stormwind.

A powerful sorcerer, Derek is determined to get to the bottom of why she pushed him away and ran three years before. He also wants her help. A coven needs training to face a demon and his army of minions. Oh sure. It’s amazing what sweet things a guy will offer to get back into a woman’s heart, and into her bed.

Only in this case, she knows he never left her heart, and in her bed is exactly where she wants him to be. Unfortunately, her bed’s already made, and she’s close to losing her soul. And not even Smith & Wesson or Derek Stormwind can fix that.

Oh, it’s always been Team Ash
Harlequin Teen has created two new desktop wallpapers in honor of The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa. One is for my beloved Prince Ash, the other for good guy Puck. We all know where my allegiances lie, but you can pick whichever one you like. You can download the Team Ash and Team Puck wallpapers here and here, respectively. (If you haven’t read the Iron Fey series, I highly recommend it. Here’s the review of The Iron King, just in case.)

And just to reiterate my allegiance:

Team Ash Wallpaper (Iron Fey)
Margaret Stohl’s first solo series

Margaret Stohl, one half of the Beautiful Creatures writing duo, has just inked a contract for a YA science fiction series. This first solo project is called Icons and will be coming out through Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. Read Margie’s super excited announcement post.

More Excerpts: Jim Butcher, Shiloh Walker and Kalayna Price
Get tastes of Jim Butcher’s latest Dresden Files novel, Ghost Story (releases July 26). He’s posted the first three chapters (chapter one, chapter two, chapter three) on his website.

Shiloh Walker has shared an excerpt from Locked in Silence (Grimm’s Circle #5), which hits shelves on Sept. 20.

Kalayna Price is whetting your appetite for Tuesday’s release of Grave Dance by posting the first chapter.

Cover Alert: Hallowed
See the pretty blue cover for Hallowed, the sequel to the totally fantastic Unearthly by Cynthia Hand (VBC review). I’m super excited for this book, which comes out January 2012.

The Body Finder, Book 3
Kimberly Derting announced the title for the third The Body Finder novel: The Last Echo. She also revealed the cover, which sticks with the single-color floral theme of the previous books. Here’s the official blurb:

Violet kept her morbid ability to sense dead bodies a secret from everyone except her family and her childhood-best-friend-turned-boyfriend, Jay Heaton. That is until forensic psychologist Sara Priest discovered Violet’s talent and invited her to use her gift to track down murderers. Now, as she works with an eclectic group of individuals—including mysterious and dangerously attractive Rafe—it’s Violet’s job to help those who have been murdered by bringing their killers to justice. When Violet discovers the body of a college girl killed by “the girlfriend collector” she is determined to solve the case. But now the serial killer is on the lookout for a new “relationship” and Violet may have caught his eye….

I want the green one
Because you use a laugh, check out the Judgmental Ostrich Bookseller meme. Here’s my favorite.

Pre-orders: Sacrificial Magic and The Wood Queen
Can’t wait to get the fourth Downside Ghosts book? Well, it’s still coming out in March 2012, but at least you can pre-order Sacrificial Magic today. Also, we just spotted Karen Mahoney’s The Wood Queen as available for pre-order (releases February 2012).
