Bound by Night by Larissa Ione We have VBC news, so we might as well start there. I’m slowly working through reviewer applicants, but you may have noticed Monday’s review of Unravel Me came from a new reviewer. I’m super excited to have Amanda join the team. She has great taste in books and doesn’t mind when I bother her on Twitter. Both essentials. Expect to see more from her soon, plus other new VBC team members.

Alpha Showdown is Coming
You still have time to nominate your favorite alpha characters for the 2013 Alpha Showdown. Nominations are open through the end of the month. The sixteen characters with the most nominations will make it to the showdown. Get the details and nominate your faves here.

Additionally, if you love the Alpha Showdown and want to help other people learn about it, you could vote for us in the final round of the Book Blogger Twitter Con (BBTC) Best Feature Award. If we win, I might have to come up with epic giveaways to coincide with this year’s Showdown. Hint hint.

Larissa Ione + Vampires = Epic
I am silly excited to see that Larissa Ione is starting a new series with vampires. I love her other books, and am looking forward to something set outside the Demonica world (have you tried reading Pleasure Unbound?) Plus, you know, vampires are kind of our thing here at VBC. The book is set for a Sept. 24, 2013, release. She’s shared the cover art and blurb for Bound by Night, and if the guy on the cover is any indication, it’ll be delicious.

A WOMAN OUT FOR BLOOD…
Nicole Martin was only eight years old when the vampire slaves rose up in rebellion and killed her family. Now she devotes her life to finding a vaccine against vampirism, hoping to wipe out her memories—along with every bloodsucker on the planet. But there’s one thing she cannot destroy: her searing, undeniable attraction for the one man she should hate and fear the most . . .

A VAMPIRE OUT FOR REVENGE…
A member of the renegade vampire Moon Clan, Riker is haunted by demons of his own. When he recognizes Nicole and remembers how her family enslaved his loved ones, his heart burns for vengeance. But when he kidnaps Nicole and holds her in a secret lair, his mortal enemy becomes his soul obsession, his greatest temptation, and, perhaps, his only salvation—a hot-blooded lover who could heal him with her touch . . . or bury him forever.

Start Reading Twice Tempted Right Now!
The first 20 percent of Jeaniene Frost’s Twice Tempted is available here. In the meantime, you can read my spoiler-free review of the book over at Heroes & Heartbreakers. Y’all need a Vlad fix. I know.

Help Jesse Petersen Raise Money for Cancer Research
Most of regular VBC readers know I’m a big advocate for cancer research (we’ll be having the Books Fighting Cancer event again this year, in honor of my dad). Author Jesse Petersen (read Married with Zombies) is hosting several auctions on her blog to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Check out the options and donate!

Romance Novels + Feminism = HEA
Absolutely! There was a great article on The Atlantic’s website about how romance novels are not holding back feminism but pushing it forward by giving us strong, self-assured female protagonists. The women of modern romance novels know what they want and don’t sacrifice their ambition in the name of love. It’s definitely worth a read.

While We Wait for Game of Thrones
It’s mere days until the premiere of the third season of HBO’s adaptation of Game of Thrones. I’m ready. However, in the meantime, I’ve been enjoying the School of Thrones videos on YouTube. Here’s the first episode. If you enjoy the books or the show, you’ll get some great laughs out of this one.
