If you’ve read any of Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires books—starting with Some Girls Bite—you know Cadogan House’s Sentinel and series heroine loves a stellar snack. She could walk you around Chicago and spot all the hidden gems.
As a matter of fact, we snagged a transcript of her and Mallory talking about Merit’s favorite late-night snacks. (Okay, so Chloe Neill sent it our way.) It’s how we celebrate today’s release of the twelfth Chicagoland book Midnight Marked (order your copy). Our review of Midnight Marked post later this week, but hint: loved it. Read to the end for a giveaway, too.
Mallory: Ladies and gentleman, welcome to a very special episode of Blossom–
Merit: No, Chicagoland Vampires.
Mallory: That’s what I meant. In which our favorite Sentinel discusses her favorite late night snack picks. Although
technically, since you’re awake during “late night”, wouldn’t that just be lunch?
Merit: Technically, yes. But I enjoy a good snack at all hours.
Mallory: Then let’s get down to business! Coming in at Number Five is . . . Pretend I’m doing a drumroll.
Merit: Handfuls of chocolate!
Mallory: That’s not very specific.
Merit: Did it need to be? It’s chocolate.
Mallory: Type? Milk or dark? Crunchy stuff in it?
Merit: Yes. All of the above. Buckets of it, at my disposal.
Mallory: Alrighty then. Our Sentinel enjoys chocolate in all of its varieties, and does not discriminate. And number four?
Merit: Pizza.
Mallory: Cream cheese and double bacon, bitches.
Merit: That’s a favorite, but when I’m hungry, I also do not discriminate on pizza. Preferably with a salted or cured meat.
Mallory: You’re a good and honorable person. What’s at number three?
Merit: Fries. Handcuts, perfectly cooked, little bit salty. They are a perfect late-night snack.
Mallory: We talking smothered and covered or straight fries?
Merit: Just fries. I want them delicious enough to stand on their own. Although a little ketchup or a cold beer wouldn’t be amiss.
Mallory: No argument there. And the runner-up, coming in at number two?
Merit: Donuts, preferably from Dirigible.
Mallory: They’re opening a store in Wicker Park.
Merit: No kidding?
Mallory: Zero kidding. Any particular donut, or do you just want to graze the cases?
Merit: Glazed twist.
Mallory: Interesting. I’d have figured you for a chocolate-filled long john girl.
Merit: Is that a metaphor?
Mallory: Kind of. Moving on. Merit, Sentinel of Cadogan House, what is your number one late night snack pick?
Merit: The thing we love, and the thing we hate. Salt and vinegar potato chips.
Mallory: *Punching a fist into the air* Yes. Horrible and gross and completely awesome.
Merit: Pretty much. *Pausing* Want to go get some?
Mallory: You know, I would very much enjoy hate-munching some S-and-Vs right now. Thank you for listening and reading, and we shall now dispense with listing and get our food on.
Merit: Goodbye, everyone!

Thanks for the fun convo with Mal & Mer. Cute and funny.
Pizza. I feel like Merit does about my pizzas!
I’m right there with Merit on the Salt and Vinegar potato chips!
When I was younger, chocolate, but pizza, which I get very rarely has more appeal now.
pizza!
CHOCOLATEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Merit is right! “Did it need to be? It’s chocolate.”
I agree with Merit and Mallory, Salt & Vinegar chips all the way 🙂
I’d like to try the pizza.
But what about Mallocakes!?!?!?!?!
AND seriously, Ethan should be on that list!
Anne
Fries, best food EVER
Anyone, or all of them! *om nom nom*
Although pizza would be on the top of my list =)
Thanks for the giveaway & Happy Tuesday!

That’s a big no on the S & V’s. But other then that, all of the above. Though like Mallory suggested I am more of a chocolate filled long-john girl. 🙂
OMG! It’s just before I need to cook dinner and I went running today and I am starving and they ALL sound soon good right now!!! But if I had to pick….fries, yummy delicious fries!! Must get cooking now before I break my diet and go get some!!!!!! :p
Handfuls of chocolate sounds absolutely delightful! 🙂
Im totally addicted to glazed doughnuts!
Chocolate (especially Tootsie Rolls) are my go-to snack!
Fries! My favorite food 🙂
Thank you for the giveaway!
Love that little convo…chocolate gets my vote!
Love this series – Merit is awesome! Pizza gets my vote!
Absolutely love this series. I totally agree with the chocolate. …and the salt & vina get chips
I would share my fries with Merit. Can we have donuts for dessert?
Fries, definitely fries.
Chocolate!
Fries, salty ones, definitely are a favorite snack. And chocolate. Maybe salty chocolate…
I have to admit that Merit has an awesome pallette when it comes to food. I can definitely get behind buckets of chocolate anything. 🙂
However, I cannot abide by salt and vinegar chips. Blech.
I have just started this series and love it!! Pizza.
I like all Merit’s favorites but chocolate is always number one choice. Great series! Thanks for the giveaway!
I can’t decide between chick at and pizza.
Chocolate*
Stupid autocorrect.
Salt and Vinegar chips either Lays or Kettle brands are the best.
I could go some pizza.
milk chocolate!
thanks!!!!
I love choclate! Dark chocolate is my favorite but I will eat milk chocolate and enjoy it almost as much.
Donuts!!!
Chocolate!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for the chance.
Long-john! It doesn’t need chocolate. Being coated with dark chocolate would be a nice addition although that would be like “gilding the lily”. And I do mean that in the metaphorical sense!
Any of her snack! Pizza, chocolate are faves.
I love pizza. However, living in California I am more of a rising crust than a deep dish. 5 meat is my call. Also, of course, chocolate.
HANDFULS AND BUCKETS OF CHOCOLATE ALL THE WAAAAY
(but i also like salt and vinegar chips very much)
PIZZA, hands down! You can’t even get tired of it cause you can have as many different kinds of it!
Maybe a break here and there, but I always come back to it.
My all time favorite has got to be sea salt & vinegar chips, all the way!
Doooonuts! Yummy.
