Success in a series is contingent on many variables, but for me, one of the biggest is continuity. The author should pay respect to fans by bringing earlier characters from the series into their later books and keeping their stories fresh.  Details matter so much.

In earlier Lords of Deliverance books, we heard from Limos, Thanatos and Ares about their beloved brother Reseph.  Reseph was the polar opposite of Pestilence.  Fun-going, loyal and dedicated to his family Reseph was sorely missed after his seal broke and Pestilence took over.  The ramifications of that action affected not only all of humanity but the supernatural world as well.  In particular, Reseph’s family were victims of Pestilence’s trademark brand of evil. The question is now that the seal has been restored and the memories of Pestilence’s atrocities are buried deep in Reseph’s mind, can the three remaining Horsemen forgive their brother?

This is where Jillian Cardiff comes in.  She finds Reseph in the snow on her property and drags him inside to the warmth of her house.  (Side note: I want to work out with her fitness guy. Reseph is 6’9” and built like a tank.)  Having come out of a bad relationship, she wasn’t exactly comfortable with letting “Fish Stick” recover in her house.  Jillian’s challenge is overcoming the memories of relationships gone wrong to emotionally invest in a relationship with this gorgeous creature with no memory (and who flirts like a beast).

You know it’s coming; we have enough interactions with the remaining three Horsemen and Reaver to know that Reseph is not going to react well to the memories of Pestilence’s reign.  Is Jillian Cardiff the type of woman who can make a 5,000-year-old certifiable man whore overcome his ways?  Is she the one who can make him settle down?  Can Jillian make the man formerly-known-as-Pestilence fall in love?

Ione hits gold not only with her long-awaited hero, but her heroine as well.  Reseph and Jillian belong together and make an even more compelling couple than Thanatos and Regan.  Even the most dedicated of Reseph’s Riders can not argue this, not after the way Ione constructs their love.  Further proof of Ione’s literary genius comes later in the book, when you see, through Jillian’s eyes, a first hand example of Pestilence’s evil.  As a reader, I was saddened for Jillian, but even more so for Reseph because as you get to know him, you realize that this knowledge will destroy him.

Did I mention that you find out a paternity secret in this book?  I didn’t?  Oh.  Well, you do.  *insert evil laugh here*

I’m saying this with all confidence.  Rogue Rider is one of the 10 best paranormal romances of the year.  At the end of this book, I was spent. Since Ares and Cara hit the page, I knew that Reseph’s story was going to be intense.  Anticipation continued to build through Limos and Arik, Than and Regan until I finally got my greedy little paws on Reseph and Jillian.  Reseph and Jillian will have multitudes of new fans once this book hits the shelves.  They both are admirable, loveable, badassed and your heart will break with both of them as discoveries are made in Rogue Rider.

Sexual content: Intense, graphic and oh so good sex.
