FINALLY! The Argeneau novels by Lynsay Sands are incredibly entertaining. They bring a humorous bite (pun-intended) to the vampire romance genre. But they were beginning to be repetitive and one had to wonder exactly how many times we could read about blood being delivered to an Atlantean descendent. We needed fresh air breathed into this series. Back when Marguerite and Julius’ story was told, I had a feeling that fresh air would come in the form of the Notte family.

Enter Christian. Hard rock violin player extraordinaire with a drop-dead gorgeous father and a mother who is her very own fangy psychic friend’s network. Christian has been alone for centuries. He’s only recently rediscovered his mother, Marguerite, when she came back into his life a few years ago. Marguerite was horrified to discover she abandoned her life mate and their son. The fact that her jerk of a deceased husband arranged it to be this way was little consolation. Christian is more than 500 years old and does not have a life mate. His mother, as fans of the series know, will stop at nothing to find that woman.

Carolyn Connor, who just happens to be on vacation at the same place as Marguerite and Julius, gets seated at the same table as the two for dinner. Marguerite sees this woman for what she is: a life mate for her son. Soon enough, Christian and his band are there and the connections begin.

The challenge for Christian is that Carolyn was married to a class A jerk. He has to work with the damage the ex-husband created. Not to mention Carolyn is horrified to find herself attracted to a man who is possibly 15 years younger. I got the insane desire to tap Carolyn on the shoulder and tell her that you would have to carbon date Julius.

The thing here is that you have great interaction. Julius and Christian’s relationship is fantastic. Marguerite’s reaction when Christian calls her mom was very believable. Carolyn’s concern over being with a younger man is valid. Christian’s protectiveness is both amusing and endearing. Plus, the vampire has 500 years of not having a life mate to make up for leading to some intense shared sexy dreams.

Under a Vampire Moon gets the Argeneau series back on track. Christian Notte could very well be the face that sells this series to new readers. The humor is characteristically present in Moon, and long-time readers are reminded of why we fell for this series.

  4. Like you mentioned, the Argeneau series was getting old. But did so love Margerite and Julius’ love story. Thanks for the heads up. Though I don’t remember the first books having the couples pass out during sex. Now if she’ll just have a little kink in it, I’ll be happier. Smiles.
