A Brush of Darkness by Allison Pang

Reviewed in February, meet our latest obsession.

We’ve been considering starting a monthly newsletter. We know you don’t hit the blog every day, and playing catch-up can be a beast. (Just ask our Google Reader.) So, we’re doing a blog post trial run. We’re going to recap our February posts for you here. If you dig it, please hit the comments to say if you’d like us to continue doing so as a blog post, via email only or both. The comments really will decide what we do, so even lurkers should help us out here.

GROUP READ
For February we read Andrea Cremer’s Nightshade. Monday night’s chat made it very clear most readers had clear opinions about who Calla should end up with — and we didn’t all agree. Thanks to everyone who participated.

After a week of sidebar poll action, the March group read has been selected: Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. Get the full skinny here.

AUTHOR GUEST POSTS
With Valentine’s Day dead-center of February, we hit up four great paranormal romance authors to write character love letters for us. This means they had one character write a love letter to another. The tones varied from heartbreaking to snarky, but all of them will make you smile. Here’s the breakdown:

REVIEWS
Highlights this month included finding an ultimate badass heroine in Bloodshot, getting a Zane fix in My Fair Succubi, falling head-over-heels for the amazing Allison Pang with her novel A Brush of Darkness and reading the best The Hollows book yet with Pale Demon.

If You Like... feature at Vampire Book ClubOTHER AWESOMENESS
In February, we started the new If You Like… feature. It’s pretty straightforward, we pick a beloved book or series and give you our best pick of another book/series you’ll adore. Our first round had us suggesting fans of Stacia Kane’s Unholy Ghosts should read Carolyn Crane’s Mind Games. For round two, we recommended Black Dagger Brotherhood fans read Larissa Ione’s Demonica series. We’ll keep this one going twice a month. If you have suggestions, hit us up on Twitter or via email.

Springing from other posts, we also had two discussion posts this month — the first on love triangles, the other with hypothetical character cagematches.

ON DECK
In addition to our normal reviews, we have some great Q&As and guest posts lined up with authors like Claudia Gray, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro and others.

Oh, but it gets better: We’re planning to go all Reading Rainbow and offer reading escapes. Expect awesome giveaways very soon.

I am by no means a dumb blonde… blond yes, dumb no and I can find my way across the internet, but I have to admit this site has me running around in circles not finding the things I want… I post a comment and after a while i can’t find the topic I posted that comment on… So a recap of all that is/was going on may come in very handy!!

and I’d like it in a mail too… My email is the one thing I try to keep up on on a daily basis, so when something comes by mail I won’t miss it!

  3. I like this idea very much!

You should definitely do monthly posts! It’s very helpful for those who occasionally check in. Of course, I’m a regular reader, but I still like these posts. 🙂

I really like this feature! There are always reviews/features that I plan to read, and then other things come up, and I forget. So it’s great to have a reminder like this. When it comes to whether it should be an e-mail feature or on the website, I think that when it consists of a lot of links, like this post, it’s easier to read it on the web. It’s always more of a hassle if you have to click several links in an e-mail.
