Vampire Book Club Group ReadFirst, big thanks to those who joined us for last night’s Crimson Moon chat. Author J.A. Saare joined the fun and answered your questions about the book, gave a few tidbits about the sequels (we’ll post them, too, don’t worry) and filled us in on her other titles.

Now, we gave you a couple days to vote for September’s group read. No question, with 47 percent of the vote, Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) is the winner. With the first book in the Infernal Devices prequel series Clockwork Angel being released yesterday (watch the book trailer), we thought it a good time to cover a title more of you may have read.

Not familiar with The Mortal Instruments? Even better, because we’ll walk you through the whole thing with the September group read posts. Get all the details of how Vampire Book Club’s group reads work here.

City of Bones (Mortal Instruments #1)When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder – much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing – not even a smear of blood – to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know….

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare’s ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

We say bring on the Shadowhunters. We promise this is a read for both adults and teens. Don’t be scared by the YA label, you’re going to enjoy City of Bones. As always, we have a review coming soon and some other fun stuff.
