Heather Brewer Book Signing & GIVEAWAY

logo

Heather Brewer at Borders (Sept. 2010)Last night the entertaining Heather Brewer stopped in at my local Borders store for a book signing. This last Tuesday the final book in her Chronicles of Vladimir Tod series, Twelfth Grade Kills, was released. Her teen series does great things by merging, as she put it, the things she knows (how it feels to be bullied and vampires).

It was great to see her behind that podium. Coming from a small town (her hometown was just shy of 900 people, mine 13,000 — she wins) can be hard when you aren’t the cheerleader or you like books/music/etc. over sports. She’s given teens confidence and a way out, and she is just as inspiring to them in person. Really awesome to see.

Also, she’s super funny in person.

Next fall will start her new series The Slayer Chronicles that will follow a character from the book Ninth Grade Slays during each summer between the Vlad novels. The final book of that series will take place after Twelfth Grade Kills. So, to those wondering why there isn’t more, she says: “There is!”

Unrelated: I also happened to run into Morganville Vampires author (and awesome lady) Rachel Caine at the bookstore later. Very friendly woman, with good suggestions on books (she assured me the Anya Bast title I was picking up was a good call). She’s excited about Ghost Town coming out, and we’ll be meeting up with her for a book signing once its out.

Back to Heather Brewer and her awesomeness. In addition to the copy of Twelfth Grade Kills we brought along, she also signed one of our new Vampire Book Club bookmarks. What does this mean for you?

Our VLAD TOD GIVEAWAY is now closed. Congrats to the winner, Kate M.!

I love the vlad series because it is a quick and easy read and it helps so manyteens who are outsiders like vlad to get through their jr/sr years. I also like how auntie heather makes her characters so lovable. My favorite thing about auntie heather is that she always has time for her minions. I wish auntie heather was visiting Canada she is my favorite author and I would do almost anything to meet her and get a signed book.

  8. The Vlad series is so inpirational and real feeling that you can’t help but enjoy it! You see the hard times of a person who is not only an outcast btu going through major problems and I realated to that. It’s really such a great series!

  9. I just love that series. Finally I have found a vampire series that is very different from the rest.

  10. Isabel Dawn says:

I love the Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, because they comfort me. I am teased daily because I’m goth, and just because i read 99% of the time insted of talking or playing sports. The prep girls act like their better than me and they act like im not even there. But nomatter what happens to me, I always find the best comfort in Vlad. He makes me feel better and in my mind i usally say “If Vlad can get through it, so can i” He gives me hope and confort, and for that i couldnt love anyone any more. And when i have kids i’ll remember him and how he got me through my bad times so he can help them. That is why i cannot get enough of Vladimir Tod.

  11. Brooke says:

The Vladimir Tod books have helped me get through highschool so far. I’m only in the beginning of my sophomore year, but I’ve followed the books since I first laid eyes on 8th Grade Bites. <3 I find it easier to relate to the book characters than half the people around me. I lost my dad when I was little, like Vlad lost both of his parents. I'm teased for wearing black and for wearing fake vampire fangs to school everyday. The series has helped me mature alongside Vlad. I absolutely love Auntie Heather too. 🙂 I pretty much stalk her on twitter, hehe. I want to be a writer one day, and she's been a huge inspiration to me.

  13. Christina Rowell says:

I love CoVT because Vlad goes through some of the same problems that I do in school. Heather really makes these books come alive. Because I can relate to some things Vlad has to go through, it makes the book a lot more interesting. With bullies and crushes like a normal teen, but also still an outcast in both worlds. The only thing that we can’t relate to is him being half vampire. But this just shows you that there’s more to a person than what you see, after all, eyes do lie.

  14. Tegan Morris says:

I love The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod because Vlad is a character that is easy to relate to for people who are struggling with fitting into middle/high school and are teased by others (like myself). But, he also struggles with even more because he is a vampire. And people don’t realize how amazing he truly is, because they’re too afraid of what they don’t know. Heather Brewer’s writing really brings life to these books, I feel as though I’m the characters when I read it. I feel their emotions and hear their thoughts as I read. It’s truly amazing how a well written story can leave you feeling so complete when it’s finished. My favourite things about Auntie Heather are her humor and complete devotion to her fans. Being a fellow Minion, it’s amazing to see how much Auntie Heather really loves her fans and her characters, it’s almost like Vlad’s a real person (I really wish that were true!!). She’s an amazing person who writes amazing stories. And that is why I love CoVT and Heather Brewer!

  15. Patricia says:

I love the Vlad Tod series because it’s unpredictable. I picked up each book not knowing what will happen and loving what did happen. In the last book I had no idea what would happen and that is what makes a book a page turner, waiting for the answers and the satisfaction when the answers are giving. I also admire and love Auntie Heather because she’s inspiring so many youths and adults all while doing something she loves. Kudos to Auntie Heather!

  16. Yan says:

I love the Vlod series because it’s from the male perspective and continues from middle grade to high school. I love that it progresses instead of leaving you hanging 🙂

The Vladimir Tod books help me with high school. i actually am surviving! amazing huh? i love these books sooo much…., but i never have me Auntie Heather!!! darn! Anyway, these books are suspenseful, wonderful, dark, and most of the time funny. i really hope i win this. i never won a book before…..this is actually the first vampire series ive ever read.!!!!

  18. Alice F. says:

I love the Vlad books because its something that me and my friend started doing together. We love to read and one of the first books we both got really into was the Vlad books. Even now that we’re not close we still share that common interest.

I also like it because its about vampires and how we all sometime feel like Vlad. How we have this big secret thats part of us but we can’t share with anybody. How we feel like they’re people after us who want to expose our secret ( like Eddy Poe) who wants to destroy us ( like D’Ablo) but how they’re also people who care about us like (Otis and Henry).
These books are also an awesome read with out all the sexual tension that many teen vampire books have. It reminds me of Harry Potter in the sense that there’s romance but it doesn’t take away from the actual plot of the story. Thats wat makes.this book unique and just worth reading .

  19. Kailtyn francis says:

i love the Vlad Tod series because Vlad is a very powerful character the things he went through made him stronger even though at times he didn’t think so himself he changed my view of male characters and the way he is described wish i could rip him out of those pages.

I am sad to say that I haven’t read this series, but my daughter has and she loves them. If thats not reason enough to love Heather Brewer. Auntie Heather is the reason my oldest daughter is reading right now. She read the first 2 Twilight books and they were Eh… for her. But she BEGGED me for Heather’s books after checking the first one out at the library. My daughter may not love reading like I do but I count Heather as a master storyteller if she can keep my child interested in books given her penchant for changing what she likes at any given moment.

I actually just pick up this series about 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it! I love the way Heather has melted standard vampire lore with new twists and side of human bullying. It’s a breath of fresh air to see a vampire that is not the traditional “strong and sexy” type. (Even though if I was a teen going to school with Vlad I would be all over that) haha. Anyway, I’m am truely looking forward to reading the final book and The Slayer Chronicles. So my props go out to Heather. Magnificent job!!!

I’m already a follower via google Blogger.

  23. Becky Howell says:

I love that I had to steal and hide the books from my 13 yr old stepson so I could read them. I am 27. Maybe I should MLIA this..unless there is a MLIV…hmmmm

  24. Krystal T. says:

I picked up this series a while back, thinking, ‘oh it’s just another Vampire book.’ Then I came home and read it, and then my thought process changed quite a bit. I am in love with these books. They’re different from other Vampire books, which is amazing, and the plot is awesome. And unlike a lot of other Vampire books, Vlad is someone I can relate to. I’ve always been the weird kid in my school, so it was nice to read something that actually relates to my life, Vampire or not. And these books always keep me on the edge of my seat, wondering what will happen next. And it’s filled with twists and turns, which make it great. Its something I look for in a book. Heather Brewer did an amazing job, and I hope she keeps up the good work. 😀

Heather brewer I love your books and I would love it if I won that book!

  26. K8 says:

Why I love the CoVT? Well I loved them ever since I saw the trailer for the first book. 8th Grade Bites wasn’t even out yet but the trailer grabbed me and that was it, I was hooked. I love Vlad, but more than just that I love all the characters. They way they all have rounded personalities, I feel like I know them. The series will always be close to my heart for that reason.
And Heather? What isn’t there to like? She took time out of her day just to meet me for lunch. What awesome luck I felt like I had that day. We talked about everything and it just wasn’t long enough. Heather is like a friend more then a favorite author and seeing her succeed in so much just bring me so much joy and also inspires me. If she can do so much I’m sure I can too.

  27. Kelly Prendergast says:

This comment is from mother and daughter. We love the Vlad books because there is never a dull moment. I believe it has taught Mackenzie (daughter)
not to judge people because they may seem different. I think it is great that we got to share the excitement of the book together…You are great you seem to really take the time out to meet your fans and listen to them… Mackenzie thinks that Auntie Heather has the greatest hair and can’t wait for the next series!!!! We hope we get to meet you sometime soon… Thanks so much Kelly and Mac

  28. Adrian R. says:

Why I Love The Vladimir Tod Series
Well, I can relate to Vladimir in many ways. Bullies? Yeah. Family? Yeah. Maybe not the vampire things, but still.
Vlad has a hard life, don’t we all? Well, maybe we don’t have evil vampires or slayers trying to kill us and everyone we love.
Vlad finds a way to get through the tough times. Unlike teenagers like myself.
The Vladimir Tod series helps me get through each day, most days I mean. If I’m having a bad day I pick up one of the Vladimir Tod books and READ IT.
I said Vlad faces bullies, correct? If not here is what I have to say about it. Vlad faces Bill and Tom. I face Preps and Jocks. Vlad gets called ‘goth boy’ and ‘Freak’ and is pushed around. I get called ‘stupid emo’ ‘Freak’ etc. I also get pushed around. Vlad isn’t ‘goth boy’ he is Vladimir Tod. The Pravus, as I am not a ‘stupid emo’ but I may be a freak to those around me. If showing your true colors is what a freak is then I’m proud to be one. But as I was saying, Vlad finally has enough of Bill and Tom he shows them who is boss. He Stands up. Like I wish I could, and with Vlad’s inspiration, I shall overcome those who challenge me.

My Favorite things about Auntie Heather.
1: Her hair is “EPICLY BEAST”.
2: She gave the world Vladimir Tod.
    3: She’s OUTGOING.
4: She’s an amazing person. I haven’t met her yet but from what I know I can just tell she is an amazing person.
5: She inspires me to write poems, short stories, etc.
6: It took one person to tell her yes. To make her dreams come true. She is that one person for me.
7: She has a gargoyle named Gargy
    8:She calls her fans Minions
9: She helps me get through life, thank you Heather.
10: She is an amazing/awesome/epic writer.
Im proud to be a Minion.

I haven’t read this series yet but I want to! High school is hard enough even when you aren’t a vampire. I want to see how he deals with it.

I love this series since it continues from year to year and that the main character is a guy. I’d love to win this book, so I’m crossing my fingers!

  31. Liza says:

I love the Vladimir Tod series because it is a series I can share with my cousin who is in high school. He actually introduced me to the series and I love it. It is really fun to share this series with him, since it is something just the 2 of us share. I’m a little behind in the series, but have loved the books I’ve read so far.

  32. Summer says:

I enjoy that the character isn’t a “suave vampire” stereotype. Also, from the comments, it seems that this character is important to a lot of people, which is cool! Hope the author takes a peek and sees how she has touched/helped others.

  33. Danet says:

I love the Vlad series because it’s so different and the characters are easy to love and relate to. It’s such an easy book to get wrapped up and lost in. Auntie Heather is an amazing author and so kind to all of her minions 🙂

  34. Dalton Kennedy says:

I love the Vlad Tod books because they are honestly one of the most unique book series out there. It isn’t the typical vampire type of story. The characters are very realistic and very easy to relate to. Ms. Brewer really did a fantastic job on these books and also really cares about her minions!

    I REALLY hope I win this. 🙂

  35. Taneisha says:

I love the series because even though Vlad’s a vampire, you can relate to him no matter what and the emotions in the book are really genuine. The way Heather writes the books makes you seriously care about the characters. The series isn’t like a lot of the vampire books out there. It’s not just sappy romance with the same recycled plotline, it has action in there to keep you entertained. It’s simply unique and different, and in my opinion, the only vampire-type book worth reading.

  36. DaNell Russell says:

I absolutely love the Vladimir Tod books because they’re unlike any other book I’ve ever read. When I read them, I feel as if I’m reading about a REAL person (aside from the whole vampire thing :P). Most vampire books now are mostly fantasy, but Vlad faces real problems that a full human teenager can relate to. I feel like I can relate to Vlad because I’m somewhat of an outcast myself(especially since I went to a different high school than all my friends). Heather Brewer has created an amazing series that reaches the minority that are the outcasts, and for that I thank her.

  37. Sarah says:

I LOVE the Vlad series, because, somehow I feel connected to Vlad, and feel the direction he comes from(I myself have both my parents(Still married too))and when I read what he goes through, and how he feels in his ‘place’ in middle/high school, I make a connection of myself and him, I notice things that happen to me, and just reading the Vlad series just tells me ‘Don’t give up on your life, get up and keep going, you’ll find somewhere to be that is perfect.’ and I just feel that somehow, Vlad is communicating through the pages to me, and I feel a little better as I read on in the book!!!!
All In All, Vlad encourages me to keep going, even through the life that totally BITES!!!!
