Demon Hunting in the Deep South by Lexi GeorgeHi, y’all!

I’m excited to be visiting the Vampire Book Club today to talk about Demon Hunting in the Deep South, book 2 in the snarky paranormal series about demon hunters in Alabama. It’s the story of Ansgar, a frosty, emotionless demon hunter who melts like an ice cube on a hot July sidewalk when he meets shy, self-conscious Evie Douglass.

Evie has spent most of her life trying to stay under the radar, not an easy thing to do in a small town like Hannah, especially when petite socialite Meredith Peterson is around. Evie has been Meredith’s favorite target since seventh grade. Meredith and her bitch posse of skinny girlfriends take great delight in tormenting Evie about her size, calling her names like The Whale and Thunder Thighs.

Lucky Evie: Meredith’s husband is her boss, which means more torture time for Meredith. Evie thinks things cannot get any worse . . . until she finds Meredith brutally murdered. On Evie’s desk. In her office at the mill, only a few days after a very public scene in which Meredith accused Evie of having an affair with her husband.

Worse, the police find a bloody knife in Evie’s car—a knife they suspect is the murder weapon.

Suddenly, awkward, timid Evie Douglass is the Number One suspect in a sensational murder case. However, Evie has bigger problems. Hannah is infested with demons, soul sucking, body snatching creatures of evil. And for some reason they want Evie. The only thing standing between Evie and death or possible possession is a hunky blond demon slayer named Ansgar, a Dalvahni warrior. The Dal are a supernaturally gorgeous race whose sole purpose is to hunt down and capture rogue demons.

Evie could swear, though, that Ansgar is interested in more than demons. She could swear he is interested in her. Ridiculous, of course, because he’s sex on two legs and she’s . . . Well, she’s Whaley Douglass.

To add to Evie’s troubles, Meredith doesn’t have the decency to stay dead. Her ghost shows up to torment Evie and she’s more of a beyotch than ever. And Meredith has deathnesia. She can’t remember who killed her, which leaves Evie to solve the mystery of Meredith’s death, or go to jail for a murder she didn’t commit.

Writing Evie and Ansgar’s story was great fun and a challenge, because Evie is the polar opposite of Addy Corwin, the smartass-to-her-DNA heroine from my debut paranormal romance, Demon Hunting in Dixie. It took me some time to get to know Evie, but I ended up falling in love with her, just like the hero, Ansgar. Sure, she is shy and self-conscious, but she is also smart, funny, loyal, and kind hearted. The book was fun to write and packed with zany characters. There’s a Chihuahua serial killer wreaking havoc on lap dogs in Behr County (fear not, he is captured!), fairies, a raging bitch of a ghost, a studly demi god running around in his birthday suit, and a lovesick succubus on a bender. Oh, yeah, and Ansgar, the sublimely arrogant super warrior who gets his comeuppance when he finds, much to his astonishment, that he cannot keep his hands or his mind off a certain curvy redhead.

Demon Hunting in the Deep South comes out from Kensington July 31, 2012, and is available in print book and e-book format on-line and at bookstores everywhere. I hope you will check it out.

Don’t you just love it when an alpha male gets knocked for a loop by a little thing called love?

This sounds like a fantastic story with lots of fun things going on. I can’t wait to see how Evie handles Meredith, I hope she gets the better of her at some point. 😀

  6. Michelle Bledsoe says:

Loved Lexi’s first book especially the funeral home scene. My daughter and I had a trip reading it. Thanks for the giveaway.

  7. sukyatk says:

IF THE MAIN CHARACTER IS PLUS SIZED WHY. DOSENT THE BOOK COVER SHOW THIS?

  8. Lexi George says:

Barbara, it is hard to get the last word with Meredith, but Evie wins the day and the real prize–Ansgar!

  9. Lexi George says:

Michelle, I had SUCH fun writing that scene! Giggled the entire time I was writing it. 😉

  10. Lexi George says:

Sukyatk, you are right. Evie is way curvier than the cover model, but the cover is so beautiful I can’t be upset about it!

  11. erinf1 says:

This series is at the top of my wishlist. Thanks for a great post and giveaway!

@sukyatk… that’s marketing for you… the author has nothing to do w/ this so it’s not her fault…

  12. Tammy Lynn says:

Don’t forget THE BRIDE WORE DEMON DUST! Lexi, you just keep getting better and better! I hope you have a long line of books planned for this series, because it’s great fun to read!

  13. Annika says:

Yeah, I also noticed that the cover doesn’t show a curvy heroine..it always disappoints me and it can even turn me off from reading a book. Guess it’s due the same type of reasoning as is behind the whitewashing of black characters on covers to avoid pegging the book as “ethnic” (Fake Editor tweeted about this the other day) but in this case it’s to avoid pegging it as a book for fat chicks? Anyway, it tells me that as a plus sized woman, I’m not good enough. Takes away any beauty the cover might have for me.
That said, I loved the first book in the series so in this case I won’t let it keep me from reading the book.

    • Annika says:

Please note that I’m not blaming or attacking Lexi George for this or saying that she is “guilty” of this kind of reasoning, If she were she wouldn’t have written a plus sized character in the first place (and I love that she did!). This is me venting and it’s directed at the publisher.

  14. lexi george says:

Thanks, Tammy! I have a lot of ideas, so we will see. 😉

  15. lexi george says:

Yea, erinf1! Thrilled to be on your wish list. Thanks for stopping by.

  16. lexi george says:

Annika, thanks for your kind words about book one. The gal on the cover isn’t as gloriously curvy as Evie, but her face and hair match my image of her. If you’ll notice, the warrior isn’t blond like Ansgar either, but I think the cover’s smoking hot! Love the blues and the font and the back cover with the mysterious trees. Kensington did a great job. 😉

  17. Johanna J says:

I loved Demon Hunting in Dixie and I can’t wait till I get my hands on Evie’s story! I Love the titles and covers too! Thanks!

  18. Lexi George says:

Johanna, so glad you enjoyed the first one! Evie is very different from Addy, but I love her and I hope you’ll like her story. Thanks for popping by!

  19. Helen Wawrejko says:

Looking foreward to reading these books!
