Love letter to Jonah (Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series)

At the very beginning of Character Love Letters 2013, we had author Chloe Neill share a love letter from Jeff to Fallon, both from her Chicagoland Vampires series. Then we asked readers to share a love letter to their favorite Chicagoland character. So many of you went with Jonah. We like ’em smart and strong, so I’m not surprised. Jackie from Literary Escapism can’t resist his charm, either. Today we share her love letter to the Red Guard member.

Drink Deep by Chloe NeillOh my dearest Jonah,

How patient you are. You stand on the sidelines, watching a girl you’ve slowly fallen for be happy with someone else; yet secretly hoping you’ll get a chance. Oh how it hurts me so to know that you have those feelings for someone who can’t return them. I know. I know, she said she would come to share your feelings in time, but then he returned, destroying everything.

You know she’ll never be yours. Not after all they have been through. I know you’re hoping for something to happen that will give you a chance, an opportunity to step in to be the man she deserves.  But even then you’ll be patience, biding your time until she’s ready to be yours and yours alone.

When you first met her, you didn’t let opinion tell you how to feel. She hadn’t proven herself – not to you – and her connection to him was always there. You knew he was always in her thoughts, so how could she possibly be good for the cause you so believe in?

Oh, but how that changed! You watched her learn, saw her fight and helped her through one trouble after another. You saw her overcome her own insecurities and watched her confidence soar. You were the shoulder she could cry on when things became tragic and you were there to help her pick up the pieces. That’s when I knew I had lost you. Knew you were going to be trapped by her allure, ensnared by feelings that will never let go.

Oh my love, you really need to forget her. She is not good for you, leading you to heartache and loneliness. Was this not proven when he returned, and she ran to him like he was the sun she had not seen in so long? Now that he is back, he is all she sees and she will never see you the way I do.

I’m here now, begging and hoping for a chance.  I’ve admired you for so long and I am uncomplicated.  Even if something were to happen, and she could be yours, now is not the time.  Her house has too many troubles and she’s right there in the middle. Her attention has too much competition and you deserve to be more than a mere thought.

So give her something to think about.  Here I am, willing and eager to fill your lonely nights with laughter and joy.  To cater to your every whim. I’ll be your companion, lover, shoulder to cry on – anything you need. Come play with me. Use me. Display me. Show her that I have your time and attention.  I have your love and affection.  Show her that we will always be each other’s top priorities…something she will never be able to claim and will always have competition for his. Let her see how happy I can make you; let her realize that she has lost any chance with you.

Yours, for now and eternity,
Jackie
