Playing favorites with vampires and their authors

logo

It’s no surprise we love vampires, but with so many talented authors taking on the dark, mysterious creatures, the types of vampires have expanded. We love it. Can they be in the sun? What kills them? Are they inherently evil? Are they just utterly sexy?

With so many variations, we couldn’t resist asking which author writes your favorite vampire? We asked first on Twitter, (slightly) narrowed down the list and now we’re ready for reader feedback.

Tell us who you love and leave comments telling us what makes her vampires worthy of your love. We’ll try to get some fresh reviews or author Q&As based off this poll and the comments below.

Update: We just wanted to remind everyone this list was chosen by our Twitter followers. If you don’t see your favorite vampire author in the list, please post them in the comments.

We’re enjoying seeing all the additional suggestions. We’re paying attention to the comments, and we have plans to give Jim Butcher, Ilona Andrews, Kresley Cole, Patricia Briggs, L.A. Banks and others attention on the blog. (We’re going to be doing reviews of Dresden books soon; help new readers start Jim Butcher’s series.) So, keep the comments coming!

In the Vampire genre, my favorite writer is Laurell K. Hamilton. She brings an interesting, intelligent, humorous, witty, sexually charged spin to her vampire tales. Her main character, Necromancer and Vampire executioner, Anita Blake, is a takecharge-do-not-even-think-of-messing with-me-lady…a heroine for women and men alike. Once, you start reading the Anita Blaek series, you will be hooked!

  2. ms.luna422 says:

Love LKHamilton vampires are awesome for how they interact in her books u almost want to forget they are not human then WHAM you just got completely rolled…lol

  3. demented says:

Yeah, LKH is fine if you like rape, murder, misogyny, the most effeminate men you can imagine, and sex instead of any sort of plot. A couple books ago, the heroine basically defeated one of the biggest, most powerful vampires in the world by having some random guy perform a sex act on her, and getting the baddie so turned on by her hawtness that SOMEONE ELSE could kill him. I am not kidding!

Oh, and the series is now basically about the author getting revenge on any men who have sexually rejected her, like her ex-husband or her ex-bodyguard. She spent the whole last book tearing into a man who refused to put her above his wife and family…. the nerve!

You want a great vampire author, check out Jim Butcher, Guillermo del Toro, Kim Harrison, Justin Cronin, Christopher Farnsworth, PN Elrod, or the upcoming Cherie Priest vampire book. These people make most of the authors on that list look like rank amateurs.

    • melissa luna says:

Agreed she kinda went on a bedroom scene bender for 3-4 books…and nothing compares to her first books but latest book BULLET getting anita back to her job.

    • Jenna says:

If you aren’t mature enough to handle the material stop reading it. Sounds like you’ve read all her books. She’s brilliant. Don’t be jealous 😉 hater

    • Crissy says:

So i could see that response if there was not a reason for the sex. But there is a very explainable reason for it and it is essential. Need we forget that anita does not like all the sex either???? I agree with last poster if you dont like it dont read it and dont hate on it.

    • Molly says:

TY TY TY I read the first handful of books in the Anita Blake series and while I didn’t love them, I did like them. Then the series became, well idk what. Terrible, if I use just one word. The Anita is so hawt and all must love her, and can’t disagree with her, that stuff just completely turned me off of the series. I can handle sex. But I want it to fit, and I want it to be done well.

  4. Andrew Lynas (a.k.a vampfan) says:

these three a simply the best.

  5. TK says:

I used to enjoy Laurell K. Hamilton’s books. Not any more. I never knew that porn could be so tedious and dull.

I wish that Ilona Andrews, Guillermo del Toro, and Jim Butcher had been listed. Those three would have been my “top 3” choices. But I also enjoy Kim Harrison, Charlaine Harris, and Keri Arthur. All of them are books with vampires AND a plot!

    • Swam says:

I don’t see how you can no longer like LKH books, but enjoy Keri Arthur. I’ve only read one so my view is probably a little biased (and this is why I ask) but the one book of hers I read was so sex filled I couldn’t touch it. Does it get better or something?

      • TK says:

I don’t mind sex in a book. I am just amazed at how boring LKH’s sex is. Anita has sex because she metaphysically has to. There’s no emotion, no real spark of attraction, it’s like she has a medical condition and sex is the cure. It’s not hot, it’s not sexy, and it’s not interesting.

I’m not saying Keri Arthur’s books are deathless prose. But Riley has sex because she’s turned on. Not because she’s under the control of someone or something else. Anita is rarely in control of herself and sexing like she means it. Heck, in Bullet she does people just to gain power. Yawn.

  6. melissa luna says:

If u want anita outta the bedroom tweet. @lkhamilton I did she is for her readers tell her what u want Olaf and edward making a comeback????

  7. Summer says:

LKH got me reading the genre, back when the books were more like hardboiled mysteries and less like romance novels. Not putting down romance novels, but they are no longer to my taste. The thing I miss most is the feeling that anything could happen to any character at any time — it had you at the edge of your seat. Now, I can’t tell the difference between most of the characters …

    • TK says:

Yeah, once LKH announced that she could never kill any of her main characters all of the tension left the novels. If no one is in real danger, why bother?

  8. Denise K. Rago says:

How about the Russian author Sergei Lukyanenko, author of the series Day Watch, Night Watch, Twilight Watch and Last Watch? An interesting series set in modern day Russia, filled with vampires, werewolves, wizards and witches.

Also, John Ajvide Lindqvist, author of Let Me In, one of the most chilling vampire novels I have ever read.

    • ScorpioVamp says:

I got the books before anyone in the US did since my hubby is Russian and his brother LOOOOVED the books. I saw the movies too, but couldn’t really read the books… the translation was too hard to read for me.
If I ever learn to read Russian I will definitely try to read them!

  9. I’m really enjoying LKH’s Anita Blake series right now. I’m 7 books in.

  10. mamagemini says:

LKH is awesome. Those books took a turn to bring us into a world of erotica and vampires. You have to love erotica and vamps to love LKH. I personally LOVE LKH and her AB books!! I also love Kim Harrison and Charlaine Harris. IT is all in what mood your in for vamps, shifters and wolves. If I want erotica I read LKH, if I want witched and vamps I read KH and if I want my Eric/Sookie I read CH. Again it’s all in what you want at the moment you are reading. They are all great writers!!! I am always excited when a new book is coming out from any of them!!
I even (gasp) like the Twilight series! When I want simple vampires and yet exciting werewolves I read those.

    =^)

  11. kendermouse says:

I am so sick of people complaining about LKH’s books. “Oh it was sooo much better before the sex~” Personally, I think anyone who’d prefer the ultra-violence of the first few Anita books to the sex that came later needs their head examined. Word to the wise: IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, THEN JUST DON’T READ IT. Stop whining and telling us what to read or not read.

    • Twist says:

Or you could stop reading the comments of the people who hate it.

I haven’t heard all that many people telling others to stop reading Hamilton’s work, but I *have* heard lots of people telling the non-Hamilton fans to “stop reading”.

If anyone is being whining and telling people what to do, it is the people like you who insist that only super true fans of Hamilton can continue to read the work and comment on it. Trying to suggest that people can’t voice criticisms smacks of censorship.

If you are fine with censoring people’s opinions, then go right ahead. Just don’t pretend that you are doing it because you want to defend your favorite author. Be truthful and say that you don’t want to hear it because you feel like people are attacking your personal opinions and that you only want to hear fluffy bunny comments.

If Hamilton is so thin skinned that she can’t hear negative things said about her, then she’s in the wrong business. The writing world is not all happiness and light. It’s actually just as cutthroat (if not more so) than the acting or political world.

  12. LauraJHickman says:

I wish Poppy Z. Brite would have been listed for her Lost Souls book. Probably the best Vamp book I have ever read.

  13. Kerriden says:

I quit buying LKH about 5 books back, but I keep hoping she’ll get out of the porn business and write like she used to. Next time put up better authors to chose from like D.D. Barant, Ilona Andrews,J.F. Lewis, Jim Butcher, Kresley Cole, Christine Warren and Jennifer Rardin. Your “other” pick leaves much to be desired.

  14. Littlemisshugs says:

I love Laurell K. Hamilton’s books & I’m really looking forward to book 20 of the Anita Blake series. I love Charlaine Harris’s books too & although I enjoy watching True Blood I prefer the books. Rachel Caine’s Morganville series is really good too & MaryJanice Davidson’s Undead series is very enjoyable/funny. I haven’t tried any of Katie MacAlister’s vampire books yet but I expect they’ll be a really good read judging by the dragon books.

  15. Tara says:

LKH – Is a great writer. Without even bringing in anything about her books plots. The way she writes, the wording and phrasing is so textured.

The way she can have 13 or more characters in one book and none of them are alike. THAT is true talent.
One book, 9 main characters later, and you know their job, humour, taste in clothes, feelings, fears, family history and most, their turn ons. *laughs*

No other author, I have read has been able to do the same. Remember, when you pick up #7 plus Anita Blake books, the main characters power base is one like a Succubus. The fact that her other power is a Necromancer and work with police is the back burner of her life now. When we first met Anita, she was dark, lonely and hugged a stuff toy in bed. Now, her life is getting to the point it is too full of life, love and men. As any good human servant to an Incubus should be.

    • TK says:

But, you see, other than their surface descriptors they are all actually very alike.

      1) Tall
      2) long haired
      3) confused by how “manly” Anita is
      4) want to sex her up
      5) damaged in some way

I also don’t want three chapters of character description and a one-paragraph summary of how the team took care of the bad guy. It’s lazy writing on LKH’s part and it’s boring to read.

  16. Tera says:

I like LKH’s AB books during the first part of the series, Charlaine Harris’ books and the True Blood series, Kelley Armstrong who writes some vampires into her world, and Patricia Briggs. I love Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series, and Stefan, the main vampire, is quite cool though he doesn’t get a lot of face time. Her werewolves are absolutely great though.

  17. Swam says:

I love LKH! Her first few books are absolutely amazing. I haven’t gotten far enough in to see the sex stuff, but I hear that her newer books have moved away from that.

I also love Patricia Briggs, though her stuff is more on werewolves than actual vampires. Stefan is great though.

  18. Ravi says:

I’m another person who wishes Guillermo del Toro, Jim Butcher, and Poppy Z. Brite had been included among the options for this poll. They’re my FAVORITE vampire authors. I do enjoy Charlaine Harris and Kim Harrison though as well.

  19. Joy says:

You’re missing an amazing series if you haven’t yet read the Jane Yellowrock books by Faith Hunter. Well crafted, a kick-ass protagonist, and vamps to …er… die for. I am always drawn in by beautiful, evocative writing along with a great heroine and plot. Hunter delivers on all counts.

  20. Tinkberbell0203 says:

LKH series rocks!! It what makes her such an amazing writer. This is coming from a person that reads everything and anything that comes my way. Her books come to life as your reading them. Only true great writers have this gift. LKH has it and is using it to her full potential. I only wish there were more writers like her. =D

  21. Aph says:

I love Laurell K. Hamilton and her fervent, thrilling novels. I admire and appreciate that Anita is written as a resilient, self-sufficient woman, who has come into her own emotionally, sexually and metaphysically. She is a necromancer, with other supernatural abilities, and the taking over of the “Ardeur” has introduced more sex in the books, but the scenarios remain just as exciting and mysterious as when the series began.

Let’s move past these archaic ideas of sexually empowered women as whores or childishly labelling LKH’s books as straight porn. Neither is true and it just shows how behind in their thinking many people still are.

I find it amusing that those who so pointedly dislike LKH seem to know every single plot line in detail. If you despise the books, common sense would dictate you not read them.

LKH creates a rich world of action-packed plots and a motley mix of characters, which never fail to entertain.

    • Mo says:

Disliking Hamilton’s writing has nothing to do with thinking having sex makes a woman a whore. In fact, it’s usually about a person realizing that Anita is anything BUT an empowered woman. Think on all the times that Anita has had sex. Now think on the motivation for every time she has had sex. Most of the times, it has nothing to do with Anita looking lovingly at Jean-Claude, Micah, Nathaniel, Damian, Richard, Asher, Jason, Truth, Wicked, Haven, Nicky (whose personal will has been raped out of him by Anita!), Requiem, Graham, Donovan, Raphael, Cynric Byron (isn’t he gay?)… well, you get the idea. There’s probably a character limit (no pun intended) that wouldn’t allow me to list all the men she’s sleeping with.

Back to the point. How often is it that Anita has sex simply because she looks at one of her many men and thinks, “Damn. I want to hit that!” and then goes and does so because she’s feeling frisky? Not often. It’s almost always because sex is the only solution to the problem at hand. And I do mean the *only solution. Big bad in the area? Anita, should have sex to power up! Someone sick or dying? Sex to the rescue! Oh no! Anita is feeling peckish and should have a sandwich! No, never mind. A penis will fix the problem!

Anita doesn’t have sex because she’s an empowered, confident woman who loves to give and take sexually; she’s forced to do so by all manner of unfortunate situations.

For years, people have been trying to yell “prude!” at those who don’t appreciate Hamilton’s later work and it has never been accurate. In fact, ask any detractor what he or she loves to read and you will likely find MANY examples of books that contain sex that’s both better written AND that involves women who are *actually sexually empowered.

As an aside, there are many ways to come across knowledge of the books without actually reading them, and especially without paying for them.

      • TK says:

Excellent post, Mo. It always amazes me that watching Anita being basically raped (as she has no personal desire to do what she is doing, she simply has to because of her metaphysical STD) is exciting and erotic.

When Anita and JC got it on in the tub, because she wanted him, that was erotic. When she did an entire room full of tigers because the bad guy took her over? Not erotic. And not empowering. Pretty darn squicky, if you ask me.

    • IMAPSEUDONYM says:

The Anita Blake books are just as exciting now as they used to be? Please, when the “mystery” is nicely tied up with one line of “oh, we got the bad guy” how is that exciting? Please, it’s not.
Really, I think most people were happy when Anita Blake finally got laid. The problem people have with the books is that now Laurell K Hamilton uses sex as a deus ex machina and a page filler, and it has made her a lazy writer. Hamilton no longer has to think about how Anita is going to get herself out of a hard situation anymore, Anita just needs to have sex, just like at the end of the last six or so books!
Being forced to have sex doesn’t make Anita empowered, it makes her a slave. Just like how Anita must “love” all the people she has sex with doesn’t make her empowered, instead it actually plays right into the old fashioned ideas on women’s sexuality, she has to “love” all her bed partners, or she’s not a good girl!

I wish Poppy Z Brite, Jim Butcher, Sergei Lukyanenko and John Ajvide Lindqvist were on this list.

    • Twist says:

I don’t think Anita’s a whore. I suppose that someone *could* see that, as she has sex almost exclusively for power gains, but I don’t really see her as a slut or a whore.

What bothers me is the lack of respect Hamilton gives sex in the AB series. Very rarely does anyone have sex because they want to. Since 99.999999% of the sex surrounds Anita, most of the sex we see is sex that is forced on her via the ardeur. When someone else has sex it is either non-consensual or done as an act of anger/revenge rather than as an act of passion or love.

Hamilton writes her sex scenes with a sense of ennui. Even she’s bored with the sex she writes. The sex scenes all use the same repetitive words, gestures, and acts. Even when she adds more people it is still boring. Writing a sex scene is hard. Writing multiple sex scenes is even more difficult, yet Hamilton doesn’t seem to want to improve.

I was hoping that with Bullet that the sex would improve because the sex wasn’t under the control of the ardeur and was done mostly for the joy of it. It only improved halfway. When Hamilton wrote about the other characters having non-Anita involved sex, it was actually sexy and erotic. But when Anita took the stage the writing grew increasingly stilted and stale.

I think that in the end, Hamilton is so used to using the same phrases and gestures that she can’t write Anita’s sex any other way.

  22. Olivia says:

OMG Richelle Mead by far!!! I don’t know how she does it!!

  23. melanie says:

Richelle Mead is by far my favourite.

  24. Melissa says:

Richelle Mead is our vampire queen! She has opened a whole world for us, she’s brilliant and awesome! 😀

  25. Katie says:

Write-in Jim Butcher! Now THOSE are some awesome vampires!

  26. Tamlyn says:

Richelle Mead is AWESOME!!! I just love her world of vampires that she has created. There are living and non-living vampire as well as dhampires which are half vampires. All this is told in and easy way to understand because Richelle writing style is just that good! Plus her vampires are absolutely the Hottest! The main character, Rose, is a dhampire that is training to be a kick ass guardian of her BFF Lissa which is a moroi(living vampire). Rose is def a smart, strong trustworthy, do anything for the people you love type of character that we can all look up to!

  27. Nykky says:

I love Richelle Mead’s view of the the vampiric world. It is geared to teenagers but I prefer not to be bombarded with explicit sexual acts when reading a book. A hint of it is more than enough to get the point across.
I also love Alyxandra Harvey, once again, geared to teenagers, but her view is awesome too. Generations of vampires that are born and turn on their 16th birthday, the royal families, and different types of vampires based on their feeding patterns.
I just picked up Molly Harper last week. She is geared more towards adults, and I am almost done the second book already. She has twisted things; they can see their reflection and are actually a part of the world.
I like these three authors because they have made incredibly amazing vampire worlds. It has left them interesting to read and I am unable to put the books down. Of course, now I am left waiting for their next books to come out…. in which case I will most likely start reading another author.

  28. Laurell k. Hamilton is the best paranormal writer on this planet!!! her characters are real anita blake is a real nononsense heroine and I have all ready learned a lot from her about standing up for yourself and accepting the “beast” in yourself and others as well. I cannot say enough good things about her. She gets put into impossible situations that are not of her choosing and steers dead ahead confronting her own demons in the process. Laurell herself is one to admire not only does she write movies that your imagination can see but she has a relationship with her fans blogging her own experiences and wisdom to her fans. Both she and Anita and her dedicated staff have enriched my life deeply! So in my estimation if you want a real cool experience Guilty Pleasures is the place to start . You won’t be the same again ! Anita and Laurell what would we do without you.

    • TK says:

LKH blogs wisdom? What, like her incessant personal attacks against her ex husband (whom she refers to as “the love of her life” – wonder how the current hubbie feels about that) and the grandmother who raised her? Or do you mean her endlessly repetitive posts about “learning how to play” – do you realize that those posts go back to at least 2006? Or do you mean the posts where she implies that her writing is 90% gold these days despite the fact that one of her novels contained an [insert description] notation when it was published?

Guilty Pleasures through Obsidian Butterfly were decent reads. Not without their flaws, but they were interesting and well-plotted. Beyond that, well, not so much. Perhaps the author needs to stop playing for a while and take a refresher course on how to write a good novel. She can even blog about it!

  29. Twist says:

Meh, Hamilton’s vampires are all wimps. She brings nothing to the table that hasn’t been done a million times already. So she brought them out of the supernatural closet. Big deal. Hamilton’s vampires are still weak cardboard cutouts of Lestat, Dracula, and vampire cliches.

For a better vampire, I’d go with Harrison or Harris. Hamilton’s work is just weak sauce. Even a million sex scenes can’t hide that she’s running out of ideas.

  30. Twist says:

Besides, if people want to see HOT vampires having HOT sex, check out L.A. Banks. She’s got her main heroine doing all sorts of things, yet Damali always puts her duty first.

And if you’ve ever seen a drawing of Damali, you know that she’s 100 times stronger, hotter, and more beautiful than Anita, Sookie, or any of the other characters out there!

  31. Twist says:

BTW, this whole poll is kind of useless when people can just spam it over and over again to vote for their favorite authors.

  32. Aline says:

I like Twilight series, But those times I read vampire academy and I can say that I loved the books are great and the Rose is perfect. It is very good her books, I am waiting anxiously for the final book. Sorry for any mistake in writing I’m from Brazil and English is not my best language

  33. Kris says:

Twilight started the whole genre for me and i loved those books…but laurell hamilton, richelle mead & kim harrison rule my fantasy world!

  34. bentley1530 says:

No Patricia Briggs on this list? Her vampires are scary good fun.

  35. Kylee says:

Twilight did not start the the vampire genre. Anne Rice helmed it. Her writing, though her view of vampires is different, started it all. Mother of the vampire story definitely goes to Anne Rice.

  36. Lisa says:

I love Richelle Mead’s vampire academy series. She views the vampire world like our world. I LOVE her characters. I vote for Richelle Mead.

  37. Sia says:

This is ridiculous ! Why isn’t Stephenie Meyer on here ? Why the hell are you guys talking crap about her ? She didn’t start the vampire genre but she sure did make million love it. I don’t like vampires and Stephenie has made it bearable for me and millions of non vampire lovers.
Her writing might not be standard to you guys but SHE HAS TOUCHED MILLIONS something these authors couldn’t do and something they’ll never be able to do. I’m sorry but Stephenie has done something special with this genre like it or not.
I’ve read every single series on here and for me Stephenie’s series has a very special place in my heart and I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE TRUST ME.
What a lame excuse for trashing Stephenie Meyer. For those doubting her and her books SHAME ON YOU. Haven’t you seen the joy and love these people have for reading her books and books in general ?
    She deserves more respect !

    • Kirsten says:

Get it girl! hahaha I totally agree with you, I was astounded when I didn’t see Stephenie on here. I mean I LOVE Richelle and Charlaine, but Stephenie just takes the cake. I don’t understand why so many people trash her and her writing (which is absolutely fantastic all in itself, regardless of genre) but we don’t need them to approve of her. There are millions of other people out there that agree with us, so screw forget the rest! haha Thanks for your post!

    • Twist says:

As much as I dislike the Twilight series, I have to agree. Meyers introduced a lot of readers to vampires & helped to fuel a new interest in the vampire YA genre.

Like or dislike her, you can’t deny her contribution to the field.

  38. Kass says:

Stephenie’s books have touched a generation. And yes Anne is great and blah blah but she’s never got this from her books.
Books are subjective and people don’t have to like her books but you can’t deny the power she has on readers. And that’s a good book to me.
Her books have heart. And there simple but who cares ?

  39. Samantha says:

My favorite Vampire author by far is Richelle Mead. I love that it combines quite a few of my favorite things to read about: Vampires, Romance, and Science Fiction.
The first vampire series that I’ve ever read was Sucks to Be Me by Kimberly Pauley. This series is probably my favorite of all because it was the first that I read.

  40. Clare says:

I love Richelle Mead’s vampires because they’re not all the usual ugly-blood sucking-die-in-the-sunlight type. Except the Strigoi – which needed to be in there. But she has the Moroi and Dhampir’s which changes everything. Rose is kick-ass and gets out there herself, battling life. Such a lovable character 🙂
I also love Nalini Singh’s vampires. Yes, the book isn’t necassarily based on a main character vampire, but they play a role within the pages. They’re awesome how she makes them sexy, gives them the scents and are ruled under the Angels. =D Nice take on things!

  41. Robin says:

I love Richelle Mead and J.R. Ward. They are both awesome authors and write vampire books that are completely different from one another. They both have action and adventure and love but the vampires in general are different but both are AWESOME.

  42. Laura says:

Richelle Mead is amazing! Love Gena Showalter and Sherrilyn Kenyon too 🙂

  43. Amanda says:

So out of the ones here, I’d say Mean and Harrison. They are the only ones that I can look into my mini library and say, “I have every one.” I love their books, very well written.

Though I’m surprised Blue Bloods from Mellisa de la cruz isn’t on this, I actually like her series. It has an interesting take on vamps. But I will have to look up some of these people and read their work.

  44. Emily Rose says:

As someone who started out as a Twilight fan, but then resented the fame due to countless people ridiculing her ‘design’ of a vampire not sticking to many of the legends – No fangs? Sparkles in sunlight? Thats where Richelle Mead saved my love of the vampire genre. Mead’s feisty heroine brings out the attitude in all of us. Rose is the perfect protagonist, she doesn’t need to be saved by some burly male at every turn. Mead has all the qualities that make her a great author. She has created a unique Vampiric world that many authors have been unsuccessful in achieving – and for all the fans of Mead – All you have to say is ‘Dimitri’ and everyone starts crying <–Classic author right there. We love you Richelle!

  45. Michele says:

Richelle Mead is by far my favorite on this list. I think she did wonderful things for the vampire genre. Instead of choosing between good, fairly harmless vampires and scary, evil ones, she threw both into the mix and it just WORKS. So there’s something for everyone, no matter what kind of vampires you like 🙂 And everything else about her plot and characterization (etc. etc.) is of course brilliant. Richelle is one author whose books I will never hesitate to buy, whether they’re about vampires, demons, or fairies 😉

HOWEVER, my all-time favorite vampire novel is Sunshine by Robin McKinley. I think it’s probably her only vampire novel so she probably really doesn’t fit on this list, but the book just blew me away. Her writing style just sucks you in, and her world-building…wow. The vampires are just what they should be – deadly, terrifying, unsympathetic…for the most part. (I admit that I’m also a fan of the nice vampires, but when you boil down to it, vampires are vampires. They suck blood. They’re not really SUPPOSED to be nice.) I think of it as pretty much the perfect vampire tale.

    • TK says:

If we’re talking all-time favorite vampire novels, mine is “Salem’s Lot” by Stephen King. Those were vamps with bite!

  46. Daomadan says:

I put “Other’.” Bram Stoker and Jim Butcher write my favorite vampires.
