Read Along – The Immortal Who Loved Me by Lynsay Sands [PART 3]

Note from Chelsea/VBC: We’re excited to be doing another read along here at VBC, and as I explained Monday the Argeneau series is such a great fit. The Immortal Who Loved Me works as a standalone, so it’s okay if you haven’t ever read another book in the series. Plus, if you participate in our discussions, you’re entered to win the complete set of Argeneau novels by Lynsay Sands. That’s 21 books. Wow, right? Okay, I’m handing it over to Jannelle now. Let’s talk vampire romance.

This post recaps & discusses Chapters 9 12

Chapter nine starts out, frustratingly enough, with Basil and Victor talking and NOT seeing who was on the other side of the dressing room door when Sherry opens it. We don’t have long to wait, however, until Sherry is found unconscious in the dressing room not knowing why she passed out. The group quickly leaves the clothing store to go sort out what exactly happened.

It doesn’t take long for everyone to realize (by reading Sherry) that Leo was the one behind the door, which means he’s found out their location in Port Henry. With that realization comes the memory of Sherry previously seeing Leo in the parking lot on the way down from Toronto. Why, you may ask, didn’t Sherry remember this incident? Well, of course because Basil was being very distracting in the van and it completely slipped her mind.

Now that everyone is up in arms about Leo being in town (and some even angry at Sherry for omitting the fact that she saw him) Sherry, Basil, Stephanie and a few others head back to Toronto figuring the women will be safe at the Enforcer house. Lucian meets up with the group and dispenses some wise thoughts on the matter thus making me ok with the fact that he bosses people around–he obviously knows what he’s doing.

Instead Lucian brings up the other issue at hand: that, from the beginning, Sherry’s been difficult to read even for the older vampires, meaning she must have unknowingly been around a vampire for an extended period of time in her life. This, along with everything else going on, brings up the other elephant in the room: Will Sherry allow Basil to turn her?

This part of the book shows a few places where seemingly insignificant facts come back to be a big deal later on–such as Sherry seeing Leo in the parking lot, and the continuous comments about Sherry being difficult to read. Lynsay Sands was really clever with the way she would throw things in here and there. While reading the getting-to-know-you conversations between Sherry and Basil and part 2, I would find many of Sherry’s responses quite strange, but I thought maybe it was just the character itself was written strangely, but no there is a ‘method to the madness’, so to speak.

Lynsay Sands Read AlongWhen reading, do you like when authors foreshadow events by throwing out small pieces of information that will be significant to the story later on? Do you mentally tag these pieces and try to figure how things will play out, or do you just go with the flow and not worry about it?

And, this is the first part where Sherry’s voiced any kind of opinion on whether or not she wants to turn. Everyone seems to agree, however, that it would be better for Basil to do it rather than Leo.

Do you understand Sherrys reluctance, at this point, to turn? Even with the threat of Leo looming in the background?

We have one more post left to cover the rest of the book! Join us to see how it ends!

  2. I really wanna read this series, but I’m afraid it’ll be really cliche. >.<' I'm so torn!

I like foreshadowing, but I mostly just go with the flow.

  5. BookLady says:

Great summary! I enjoy foreshadowing but don’t always catch all of the small significant pieces of information. Basically I just go with the flow.

  6. Diana Pauline says:

Sometimes while reading I think, “Oh, this is going to play into the story later”. Other times I don’t pick up on foreshadowing hints so I’m going with the flow, trusting the author. Either way, I really enjoy recognizing something that was hinted at earlier in the book, even if I didn’t catch it the first time around. I guess that means I’m OK with foreshadowing!

  7. Jill B says:

What I really like is when I’m totally blindsided by a book. No foreshadowing at all. Just BOOM. and you have to stop reading and just look around like, “omg, did anyone else just see that happen!?”

  8. Sarah E says:

This is fun! I like reading with lots of others, knowing the book is playing with them too! Thanks for this!
