logo

From VBC’s Chelsea: We’ve covered the best books of 2013, but we’re ready to look forward here at VBC. There are so many wonderful reads waiting for us in 2014. To help you get excited for new books, we’re going to post our reviewers’ most anticipated 2014 books. Add your favorites in the comments. Today Amanda gushes over VBC favorite Nalini Singh and several other stellar picks. (See Amy’s picks and Krista’s picks.)

Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh AMANDA’S MOST ANTICIPATED BOOKS FOR 2014

1. Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh

By now you’ve probably guessed I’m a bit of a Nalini fangirl. After the brilliant Heart of Obsidian, I had to wonder how she’d be able to top the most amazingly awesome alpha hero (have you met my book boyfriend, Kaleb? You can’t have him). This time around, instead of giving us the un-redeemable hero, we get the uber-broken hero. Winter is Vasic’s story (!!!) and I am counting down the days until June.

Releases June 3, 2014. Pre-Order Shield of Winter

2. Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi

The conclusion to the Shatter Me trilogy, Ignite Me sends Juliette straight into the fight against the Reestablishment. It promises action and angst and hopefully, a resolution to the Warner/Adam question. Mafi did the impossible (for me) with Unravel Me; she changed my mind about Warner. I have to wonder if she’s going to pull us back in the other direction. Thank God I don’t have wait long to find out.

Releases Feb. 4, 2014. Pre-Order Ignite Me

3. Scarlet Devices by Delphine Dryden

Delphine Dryden earned a place on my auto-buy list with her fun and nerdy erotic romances, and I adored her mass market debut, Gossamer Wing. In Scarlet Devices, Eliza Hardison, niece of the Makeshift Baron Dexter Hardison, earns the right to represent Hardison House in a cross-country race – and her competition is none other than Dexter’s protégé, Matthew Pence. Expect steampunk-y goodness and steamy romance.

Releases Feb. 4, 2014. Pre-Order Scarlet Devices

4. The Taking by Kimberly Derting

I love love LOVE Kimberly Derting. The Body Finder is one of my favorite YA books released in the last couple of years. Her newest, The Taking, is about…aliens? Waking up behind a dumpster and discovering five years have passed, Kyra sets out to find out what happened in the intervening years. I’m a huge X-Files fan, and I’m excited to see whether Derting thinks the truth is out there (teehee!)

Releases April 29, 2014. Pre-Order The Taking

5. Grave Visions by Kalayna Price

Kalayna Price ended Grave Memory with a sentence that was sure to have readers throwing the book at the wall…and waiting impatiently for the next book in the series. Alex is trying to find the source of a new street drug that turns hallucinations real while dealing with the consequences of her newly discovered heritage. And there’s sure to be more back and forth over Falin and Death. I just hope the release date doesn’t get moved again.

Releases July 14, 2014.

Oh my god I cannot wait for Grave Visions where was the new date I have been looking everywhere for an update of when this would come out!

    • Amanda says:

That’s the current Goodreads date. I’m really hoping it’s the last time they move it, too. I’m getting impatient to find out how Death’s going to handle Alex’s new roommate!
