Note: While this review will be spoiler free, it does make reference to previous books in the series. If you haven’t started yet, check out VBC’s review of Skinwalker.

Jane Yellowrock is a one-of-a-kind Cherokee skinwalker; she can change her physical shape into any animal she would like to. She uses her enhanced physical characteristics to hunt vampires, and any other supernatural that likes to harm others. I loved Jane from the very beginning of this series. She is tough, loyal to a fault and has many, many flaws.

We last left Jane and company recovering from the pirate vampire invasion in Black Arts. Jane is very busy trying to upgrade the security for the EuroVamps’ visit. Meanwhile, in the middle of this crisis, a brand new problem emerges, which is definitely a theme for our poor Jane. A bizarre new creature continues to viciously attack Jane and Leo. The humans can’t even see the creature, which has to be terrifying. To Jane it reminds her of the “Soul-like” creature that attacked her earlier. Oh man, I wish I could tell you what it is, because it is really cool.

Bruiser totally steals my heart in this novel. He gives Jane the most thoughtful gifts I have ever seen, and he’s explanation of why he wanted to give those particular gifts…*sigh* He seriously steps up to the plate and hits a homer. And it’s everything I wanted for our awesome Jane. If only she would get out of her own way, this could be a wonderful thing for her.

The Jane Yellowrock books are always packed with action and drama. The bad guy always loses, and Jane always rises above every challenge, even if it nearly kills her. She has a strong sense of what’s right and wrong, and she doesn’t easily forgive those that do evil things, especially herself. Jane and Beast go through a bit of an identity crisis in Broken Soul, and come out stronger and better, in a beautiful way.

The story is fantastic, the action is intense, the romance sweet, and the characters seep into your soul. At the end of Broken Soul, I smiled, closed the book, and hugged it. I loved this one.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC, and I did a happy dance in my driveway when UPS delivered it. I agree; Broken Soul is wonderful.

My pre-order from B&N arrived last Tuesday, so I’ve already read it, as well. This may be the best book in the series, so far! I was so happy to finally see Bruiser courting Jane! And, Jane has the Younger brothers as her surrogate family.

You’re right; it’s hard to keep from talking about what the Soul-like creature turns out to be. 🙂

This arrived on my kindle last night, I can’t wait to get stuck in, it’s one of my most anticipated books this year.

  4. I have yet to start this series. It is on my list when I finish up a few that I’m in currently. I have too much going on right now. I’ve heard this is great on audio.

  5. Amy says:

I just got the first book on my Kindle discounted a couple of weeks ago. It’s nice to know that 8 books in, the series is still going strong!

I’m half way through the Audible version and wow, what a story. Plus, I got to meet Faith herself at her book signing in Rock Hill on 10/7! Yippee!

Forgot one comment I wanted to make and that is “Spot On” concerning the “counseling session” 😀 between Jane and Derek. I’m retired military and Faith hit that one out of the park!

    • Jill says:

Super jealous that you got to meet her!
