Like the earlier Abby Sinclair books—A Brush of Darkness and A Sliver of Shadow—A Trace of Moonlight wasn’t what I expected. That’s a lovely thing. Each book in this series has delighted me in its quirkiness and Allison Pang’s willingness to make bold choices.

The first book introduced a miniature unicorn with a penchant for bacon and playing in Abby’s underwear drawer. It also gave us a romantic interest who has antlers sometimes, and made that not weird. Antlers plus Ion equal hot. Go with it.

The the second book managed to make me forget out about the incubus Ion and actually fall for a different guy for Abby. Talivar. A shunned Faerie prince. Maybe I just like guys with swords? The novel had Abby making rash choices that changed everything.

Now we come to the third book and it just wasn’t what I expected. A Trace of Moonlight is the culmination of all the problems Abby’s had thrown her way over this three-book arc. Faery problems. Demon problems. Relationship problems. Family problems. It all explodes in this tumult of hope and need and desire.

I’m purposefully not telling you the gist of the plot here, because one of the great things about an Allison Pang book is the journey. Abby travels all over in this one, both emotionally and physically, and those trips are ones you need to discover alongside her.

However, I will tell you, we learn much more about Melanie and Nobu. Yep. Things become even more complicated on the Abby/Ion/Talivar front. So much so that I’m conflicted about choices there, or lack thereof. If you want a clear answer on where Abby’s heart lies, you aren’t going to get it. Be warned. However, aside from the romantic confusion, everything in A Trace of Moonlight brings the awesome.
