Pregnant shifters are being kidnapped in New Orleans and, as the newest Enforcer for the North American Council, Erin has been sent down to investigate. Eager to prove herself, Erin isn’t going to let anything get in the way for rescuing these girls, whether it be her past or her doomed attraction to Noah. But The Big Easy is vastly different from Fontana, and to get to the truth Erin and Noah will need to play nice with various supernatural factions.

Ever since the night he found her beaten nearly to death, Noah knows he’s found his mate. He’s sure Erin feels it too, but after what she’s been through, he’s not going to push. Doesn’t mean he isn’t going to make sure she’s protected and supported running this investigation. Where she goes, he goes. Even when it means facing a past, and his father—the Alpha of New Orleans—that’s he’s been avoiding for years.

Little do they know just how much this case will dreg up those pasts.

Erin and Noah have been simmering in the background since book one, the complicated magnetism of these two obvious even with just fleeting glimpses, so I was eager to find out what’s really been going on.

The plot of Avenger’s Heat is actually very clever. Not only does it totally deliver a complex mystery and let us explore this supernatural world outside of Fontana, but it also actually brings up personal issues for our protagonists at every step. This forces them to work through things gradually, building a really solid and deep connection within the romance.

Not much had been revealed about the events that lead to Erin being left for dead, but it’s always been obvious it was horrific. She may have somewhat healed physically, but as the story progresses we begin to understand just how deep the emotional scars and lasting effects go. She doesn’t deny her chemistry with Noah, but she’s convinced she’s not what Noah wants or needs. She’s very self-sufficient and I liked that it felt true to her character that it takes time to open up, to trust Noah enough to feel vulnerable.

I heart Noah. He knows what he wants and he’s willing to do everything to show Erin he’s there no matter what. I loved the fact he respected her strength, her role as enforcer and is there to back her up rather than take over. He’s certainly frustrated at times, not fully understanding her reservations, but I never doubted how much he cared. He’s built his own walls up though, especially concerning his family, and watching these two navigate one another, to open up and heal together, was a beautifully layered story.

You wanna know something else awesome in Avenger’s Heat? It’s actually a romantic twofer! While the UST (unresolved sexual tension) burns the pages between Erin and Noah (boy, does it burn), a less complicated relationship is brewing between Fae warrior Brianna and pack member Angelo that deepens as they work together. I definitely appreciated the romantic fix while Erin and Noah circled each other.

Avenger’s Heat hits the ground running and never lets up, whether that be in the action, well constructed plot or the sexual chemistry between the characters. This is a story of strength, of partnership and healing, and it does it brilliantly. I can’t stress enough what a fantastic paranormal series this is, delivering on every level, this installment included.

Sexual content: graphic sex
