Damn you, Karen Marie Moning. I know you like cliffhangers. I know you like to torture your characters, but that ending? C’mon! (No, readers, I won’t spoil it for you. That would be mean. I’ll just say the ending reminded me of how everyone thought their DVR had cut off the finale of the Sopranos. It was that kind of ending.)

Frustration at the ending aside — and I am frustrated — I loved Dreamfever. If you haven’t read the earlier books, I’m going to reference events at the end of Faefever here in a second. You’ve been warned.

At the end of Faefever, Mac was attacked by Unseelie princes. Raped. And, as we all feared, she was turned Pri-ya. She was hollowed out and seeked only physical attention. She had been saved by Dani and the sidhe seers, but Rowena doesn’t trust her. Barrons saves her. Again.

Early on, things are a bit different because we have Dani narrating. MacKayla isn’t really up to it. I wasn’t much for it at first, but the kid grows on you. Eventually, Mac comes back stronger, but now the walls between the mortal world and Faery have come crashing down and we’re all left wondering if there is any way to save the world.

Expect unexpected alliances, breaking through wards, surprise trips to Faery realms without a fae in tow and evil at every turn. (We’re purposely avoiding details, because the plot is a constant surprise in Dreamfever and we’re not about to ruin it.)

Brutal, deep and leaving us with heaps and heaps of questions, Dreamfever is an undeniably great urban fantasy. Mac gets tiny answers, but gets even bigger questions in exchange. Is she destined to save the world or destroy it?

Now, we sit on the edge of our seat dying for answers to questions. The fifth and final Fever book, Shadowfever, comes out this January. We’re thinking pre-ordering it may be necessary.

At least your wait is only 2 months. I’ve been waiting since March! This is the first time I want time to speed up so that I can get my hands on Shadowfever. I plan on taking the day off on release day. LOL! My productivity will be non-existent while I’m reading it.

What did you think of the infamous Chapter 4? *sigh* I love me some Barrons.

This ending killed me. KILLED ME!!!!!

I can’t wait for Shadowfever. The release party is actually going to be in my city (new Orleans) so freaking excited! Who’s with me???

Couldn’t bring myself to read the review fully, since I’m reading this one now! Contemplating preordering Shadowfever as well, but haven’t decided, would rather go to store on release day and buy it so I can read it immediately, like 9:01 am since the store opens at 9am!

But I became a fast addict to this series as well and only started it last week!

  4. K so I get all the titles messed the hell up and have to go by Fever 1, 2, 3, and 4 LOL Anyway, this is the MAJOR ONE that has you throwing the book across the room, right?
5 of 5 stars from me, too!!!!!!!!!
    2 more months til Shadowfever!!!!!!!

  5. I can’t wait for Jan either! My friends and I all have different ideas about the end here….it’s been a long wait!

  6. Patti Akers says:

Like someone else said at least you didn’t have to wait all year like those of us that read the other one the day it came out. I was going to preorder but will either buy it the day it comes out or will get it in ebook form – I can’t wait for the mailman to arrive he gets here late in the day LOL. The last book is supposed to be twice as long so it is going to a couple of crazy days as I am not going to want to do anything but read this book.

  7. @Marquetta – I don’t anyone could have not enjoyed chapter 4.

@Parajunkee – Release party? Too awesome. We’ll have to live vicariously through you for that one!

@Jessica S. – You’re not alone there. The Fever series pushed my TBR pile down (and intended reviews!). It’s definitely a series where you want to read the next one as soon as you read the last page.

@Spaz – Yes, Fever 4 is a HUGE ‘throw the book’ novel. There’s more than one instance where your jaw drops. (And not just because of Barrons’ sexy nature. LOL)

@Patti Akers – I think I’ll end up going with an eBook for Shadowfever. I like that immediate delivery on release day.

I think I died a little inside when I read the last page. Died. I am now suffering from a mild case of crazy since I’ve been waiting for Shadowfever for over a year. A YEAR! And now we’re so close:) Can we get a chapter 4 where Mac is Mac in Shadowfever? That would be fabulous;)
