Sweetblood fans, if you haven’t checked out the Iron Portal series, you need to make that a priority. Rickert from Assassin’s Touch and Asher, the hero from Rogue’s Passion, can give Jackson, Alfonso, Tristan and Dominic a run for their money.

Asher Kane is one of the residents of Cascadia, a realm that can be entered only by closely guarded portals. The Cascadians are upset because the army on this side is traveling over to Cascadia to steal babies. They commit atrocities and blame the Cascadians. Asher is angry over the assassination of his friend Fallon. The search for Fallon’s killer leads him to Olivia Crawford.

Olivia is an unregistered healer talent, someone with abilities to heal that the government requires you to register. As fans of the series discovered in Assassin’s Touch, people on this side with talents are more than likely adult versions of the babies taken from Cascadia, who have more than likely been adopted out over here. An explosion happens at Olivia’s place of work, Asher comes to her aid and she discovers he has been hurt. Thus, the discovery of the healer talent, and the beginning of a phenomenally-written relationship.

Olivia is the snark to Asher’s broodiness. Asher has demons (the personal kind, not the smells-like-sulfur kind) that he is trying to outrun, and won’t let himself have a long-lasting relationship. He’s protective and would definitely fit in with the Black Dagger Brotherhood crowd with all the MINE! he is throwing off, but he resists the pull. Olivia isn’t the little woman who bides her time patiently with her man either. She’s very independent, very cool and just what a big, broody, sexy-as-hell Cascadian needs.

Emotional conflict is played like a concert pianist in Rogue’s Passion and London further establishes her place in the paranormal romance genre. Two characters who are exceptionally likeable, combined with the hero and heroine from book one and a promise for more in books to come make this one a knock out.

By the way, the sex rocks.

I love this series and cannot wait to see what Laurie London has for us next.
