A Vampire for Christmas anthologyThanks, Chelsea and Vampire Book Club, for hosting the first stop on our #VampXmas blog tour! It’s always fun to talk vampires with you and your readers.

All four authors of the anthology, A Vampire for Christmas, which is out in print tomorrow (digital on November 1), are answering the same question about our stories. Stay tuned at the end for a chance to win a cool prize package.

How did you incorporate a Christmas theme into your short story in the anthology A Vampire for Christmas?

Caridad Pineiro: I have to confess that one of my favorite holiday movies is A Muppet Christmas Carol. The moment I was asked again to write a vamp Christmas story (I had done the Holiday with a Vampire anthology in 2007), I knew that my story had to be a take on Dicken’s classic tale of redemption and have a very uplifting ending.

Michele Hauf: The story is set a few days before Christmas, and my hero isn’t really into the holiday because he thinks of himself as a monster, and so, as the title suggests, “Monsters Don’t Do Christmas.”

Alexis Morgan: As a vampire and undercover cop, Eagan McHale is used being out in the cold, always on the outside looking in. With no immediate family left of her own, Della Breit has built a new one, gathering an eclectic group of friends together in the warmth acceptance of her diner in downtown Seattle. Drawn to Della’s dark eyes and simple beauty, Eagan reluctantly finds himself caught up in the holiday, helping her hang Christmas decorations and becoming part of her makeshift family. He quickly learns that the holiday is less about buying gifts for everybody and more about giving of himself.

Laurie London: Every year, the Westfalens throw a huge holiday party for the local vampire population. But when scandal rocks the family and jeopardizes Trace Westfalen’s upcoming election to the Governing Council, he’d just as soon ride this one out. His grandmother, however, has other ideas and insists on hiring Charlotte Grant, the party planner they used last year. Despite their attraction to each other, mayhem happens when Trace and Charlotte decorate the house together, attend several parties and deal with a few hidden secrets.

I think the one thing I miss most about the holidays, now that I live far away from home, is dressing the house in Christmas gear with my grandparents, sister and my mom. It was always so much fun to decorate, bake cookies and drink egg nog. Did you know that there is no egg nog to be found in Switzerland. I haven’t found the courage to make my own yet.

  14. Michelle D says:

It’s the one time of year I associate with snow – because as a young child I’d be in a very remote/tiny community – where it snowed! 🙂

  15. RachaelM says:

The one thing that stands out in my mind when I think of the holidays is putting up my tree with my 7 year old son. We make a day of it and look back at all the ornaments and think about the memories that go with each one.

  16. ABarker says:

The one thing that stands out in my mind about the holidays is family and friends. It is a time to be together with the ones you love. 6 years ago two days before Christmas my grandmother passed away unexpectedly and it was hard to deal with. But even with all the loss the way my family came together was amazing, and ever since regardless of how busy our lives are we remember her and the togetherness.

  17. The one thing that stands out in my mind when I think of the holidays is the feeling in the air. It’s like a switch has been flipped. The feeling of home. The feeling of comfort. At lease that is how it feels the day after I put away my Halloween decorations and start decorating for the best season of the year. Yes Thanksgiving is in between, but it’s the start of it all. My extended family pull names out of a hat after Thanksgiving dinner and it’s quite lovely!!!

  18. Pamela R says:

I remember the first Christmas with my husband, he bought me the biggest Christmas tree ever. It was bigger than our car, and we had to chop off a good portion so it would fit in the living room. One of my best holiday memories

  19. Darcey Moyer says:

I love the food and smells-turkey, pies, spices..

  20. Jackie U says:

Usually, it’s candy. : ) My mom and sisters used to get together a week before Christmas and make all kinds of holiday candy like cookies, fudge, glass candy, and a round version of a rice krispie treat with caramel. ::drools:: Good times!!

  21. Suzan says:

Decorating the tree at my grandmother’s house. She has ornaments going back almost 50 years and we’d put them all on the tree until there wasn’t a single branch undecorated. Plus, the presents surrounding the tree were sometimes taller than the tree itself.

  22. Jessica says:

What stands out to me is the hope that it will not be as bad as previous holidays. Holidays are not the best time for me.

  23. cindyg says:

Family and traditions are the first things that came to mind. We have always been blessed at the holidays.
    Cindy

  24. Grace Jolley says:

I associate family get-togethers with the Holidays. Loads of food. Sparkly decorations.

  25. Renée says:

I would so celebrate x-mas if a vampire was under my tree.

  26. penny says:

I love christmas! It’s my favorite holiday because its all about family and the kids. Great food also! 🙂

  27. Janie says:

Holidays just make me think about family. This is a time to get together and remember all the love throughout the years
