Show Me Your Alphas – Alpha Showdown 2017 Nominations are Open

logo

VBC: Home of Alpha ShowdownWin It Wednesday just got legit double awesome. (That’s a thing, right?) March is just flying by, which means it’s time for the annual call for nominations for Alpha Showdown. And since it’s also our giveaway day, I’m bribing you to give me your nominations with the chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card.

This is our seventh year bringing you the Alpha Showdown, and it becomes more fun each time. It’s your chance to go full-on fan for your favorite characters, and a great time to discover stellar new books. The introduction of DB Reynolds’ Raphael in last year’s Showdown had even those at VBC HQ hitting the one click. (Also, check out Kris’ review of the first Vampires in America book.)

It’s a blast, and it’s all about the awesome VBC family (that means you) getting in on the fun.

For those uninitiated—hi, new subscribers!—each May VBC hosts a battle royale with your favorite alpha characters with tons of giveaways and lots of fun. It’s the VBC version of March Madness, and happens in May each year.

Here’s how it works: VBC readers nominate their favorite characters who exemplify alpha status—leaders, warriors, general badasses—and we place the top 16 vote-getters into an NCAA-style bracket. We’ll have book bloggers champion the nominated characters and matches will be posted on this site where readers will vote on which character advances.

Previous Alpha Showdown champions include J.R. Ward’s Wrath, Darynda Jones’ Reyes, Karen Marie Moning’s Ryodan, Ilona Andrews’ Curran and Moning’s Jericho Z. Barrons. This year’s alphas will need to be fierce to stand alongside our previous champs.

You may nominate any character from any book, regardless of publication date, to the Alpha Showdown provided he or she is a central character in a novel with paranormal or supernatural elements (a.k.a paranormal romance, urban fantasy, fantasy romance, etc.).

Also, we will have giveaways alongside every step of the Alpha Showdown. We aren’t changing that! (Authors/publishers, ping us if you’re interested in offering prizes.) We utilize Rafflecopter widgets to handle nominations (below!) and the actual voting when the Showdown happens.

To kick off the giveaway action, we’ll pick one person who nominates characters for the Alpha Showdown 2017 to receive a $25 Amazon gift card. (International readers: This is open internationally, and we can do a Book Depository gift card instead, if needed.)

THE DETAILS

  • You can nominate up to three characters.
  • We’ll accept nominations through March 31, 2017.
  • Comments are encouraged (convince people to nominate your favorites!), but do not count as nominations. Only those submitted via the Rafflecopter form will be considered.

    So hard…

  16. Brad says:

Going with the more obscure ones but all 3 in recent books have been showing signs of Alpha mentality on the rise!

Julie Olsen Daniels Lennart, Ilona Andrews, Kate Daniels Series has taken the initiative to learn from Roland knowing that Kate will not want to. She has set out to do what she can to help and defend Atlanta and her wolf!

Meg Corbyn while Simon may be the true Alpha of the series, but ask the others who is more vital? Meg could have the whole of Thassia one fire or in dead of winter with a just asking the Elementals. Hell one of Elders even killed for her! She is the perfect antithesis of a hero but she does it so well!

Wanderer/Wanda from Stephanie Meyers The Host. I know many do not like Meyers books of the Twilight series but The Host is an amazing book. Wanderer the soul learned to love and save so many of the human survivors of the alien take over! She is a true Trump supporter by helping to make Humans Great Again! (Sorry couldn’t resist!)

  17. Katie says:

    Barrons – enough said!
Ryker – The collector series Stacey Marie brown
Ryder – the Fae chronicles Amelia Hutchins

  18. Tara Pitts says:

Yes! I love this time of year! I went old school with my nominations. I chose Rehvenge from BDB, Curran from Kate Daniels, and Talon from the Dark-Hunters. I look forward to the showdown!

  19. Brandy says:

This is one of my favorite comps. I have found several new series

  20. Jamie Smith says:

    My choices are:

    1. Jericho Barrens from Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series
    2. Kate Daniels from Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series
    3. Reyes Farrow from Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series

  21. Sara K says:

REYES FARROW – an actual “God”/Son of THE Satan!
JANE YELLOWROCK – We need a woman to win for once!
KATE DANIELS – Ditto to the above
Charley Davidson – The God Eater (several in fact!)
