Review: Blood of the Wicked by Karina Cooper (Dark Mission #1)

A beautiful blend of darkness, love and acceptance, Blood of the Wicked goes to the top of my paranormal romance recommendations list. The writing is bone-deep with honesty and the action scenes crackle with tension and fury. Urban fantasy fans, if you’ve been avoiding paranormal romance, now’s the time to put a toe in. You will love this book. . . . → Click here to continue reading Review: Blood of the Wicked by Karina Cooper (Dark Mission #1)

Review: Hexed by Kevin Hearne (Iron Druid #2)

There are a number of things I like about Hexed’s main character Atticus O’Sullivan. I like that he’s confident and actually backs it up with competency. I like that he takes care of the widow in his neighborhood and doesn’t begrudge her a 10 a.m. glass of whiskey. I like that he tells his hound Oberon epic stories. And I really like that even when times are dark and the road ahead murky, he can make me laugh. . . . → Click here to continue reading Review: Hexed by Kevin Hearne (Iron Druid #2)

Review: Hunter’s Fall by Shiloh Walker (The Hunters #13)

One of the things I love best about Shiloh Walker’s writing is the very thing that made reading Hunter’s Fall difficult at times: She’s too good at making the complexities of human emotion come alive. Walker never shies away from the hard, painful aspects of life — they are the very things that can later bring joy. And Hunter’s Fall gives us both true emotional pain and real, honest hope. . . . → Click here to continue reading Review: Hunter’s Fall by Shiloh Walker (The Hunters #13)

Review: Pale Demon by Kim Harrison (The Hollows #9)

We’re keeping this review spoiler-free, but we promise there are several moments that will have you shaking your head, muttering “oh no” and begging for a bit more. In other words, we promise Pale Demon is freaking amazing. . . . → Click here to continue reading Review: Pale Demon by Kim Harrison (The Hollows #9)

Regan Hastings Guest Post: The dynamic between a witch and her warrior

The dynamic between Shea and Torin was a lot of fun to play with. (Yes, I’m evil. I enjoy torturing my characters.) From Shea’s point of view, she just met this muscle-bound man who rescued her from the mob only to lock her in a room with the threat of a mating ritual echoing in her mind. Her Eternal, he calls himself, as if she’s supposed to know what that means. . . . → Click here to continue reading Regan Hastings Guest Post: The dynamic between a witch and her warrior

A roadtrip with The Hollows characters? Bring on Pale Demon

Kim Harrison has a knack for giving us memorable, quirky characters. Remember the first time you learned about pixy swearing in Dead Witch Walking? The woman takes character development to another level in the ninth Rachel Morgan/The Hollows book, Pale Demon, where we’ll get to see tension build as they’re all crammed in Rachel’s mom’s Buick. . . . → Click here to continue reading A roadtrip with The Hollows characters? Excerpts from Stacia Kane’s Downside #4

In an effort to cheer herself and the other masses who have some sort of flu/cold/strep throat nonsense going on (myself included), Stacia Kane decided to tease us with a few lines from the fourth Downside novel yesterday afternoon. In case you missed her 2 p.m. tweets:

“This was the one time she didn’t worry about how . . . → Click here to continue reading Excerpts from Stacia Kane’s Downside #4

Waiting on Wednesday: Demon from the Dark

Demon from the Dark by Kresley ColeWe’re going short-notice for this week’s Waiting on Wednesday. Kresley Cole’s Demon from the Dark comes out next Tuesday, Aug. 24, and we’re eager to pick it up. In addition to merging more adult paranormal romance novels into our reading mix, we’re excited for this one because it offers so many obstacles for our hero and heroine to overcome.

You’ve got a demon, who is cursed and infected with vampiric blood (which, of course, gives him cravings), who meets a witch, who has problems but hides all that by being a party girl.

She’s captured and forced to hunt him. Naturally, they end up working together in this savage plane. He vows to protect her, but he has to battle his past, the affects of the vampire blood and those who have put the two in this hellish place.

Now, if that doesn’t sound like it would breed awesome romance, well, I’d like to see you do better.

Watch the trailer after the jump.
