Talking about Iced

Iced by Karen Marie MoningI planned to write a detailed review of Karen Marie Moning’s Iced for this blog.

However, I participated in a round-table discussion post over at Heroes & Heartbreakers before I had finished the book. I was sure that I would have more to say about the novel by the time I finished. Here’s the thing, I still feel just as strongly about what works and what doesn’t in Iced as I did for the Heroes & Heartbreakers post.

Instead of rehashing it here, I’d like to invite you to visit the H&H Weighs in on Karen Marie Moning’s Iced post. I suggest this for a few reasons. There are polarizing reactions to this book. Many people were won over by Dani as a lead character and just as many found her voice utterly grating (I fall into the latter camp).

If you don’t have time for the big post, here’s the short version: Moning’s writing is brilliant. The plot works, the male characters are addictive and Dani makes me crazy (it’s hard for me to accept this adult story from the voice of a 14-year-old, even if it’s a very well-done character).

You have done a great job summarizing exactly why I’m going to steer clear of this book. While I really like Moning’s work, especially the men she creates, I couldn’t stand Dani in the previous books and knew a whole book about her would not be my thing.

  2. I think the use of different POVs helped tone down Dani for me. I just hope that in the next book we get more interesting POVs than Kat.

I loved it, didn’t think anyone could come close to Barrons but I was wrong.

I understand what people are saying about Dani but Mac was a bit like that at first (not the same but annoying anyway)

While I LOVE any of the Highlander books – this series is not for me. I have read them to see if they mention my Dark Highlander and my Wicked Fae but that is all. I wish she would drop this and go back to writing about the Highlanders.
