Win Hellbent by Cherie Priest (a.k.a. help Raylene make friends)

logo

Fall into (Urban) Fantasy with VBC and MBWI really like super thief and vampire Raylene from Cherie Priest’s Cheshire Red series. Unfortunately, I just don’t know that she’d like me.

Really, she’s not much for people — human or supernatural. She’s fairly convinced she’s “not a very nice person” and her disdain for people drips from the pages of both Bloodshot and Hellbent. And, honestly, this is why I like her. Some people need to be mocked, and Raylene is happy to be that person for us.

She managed to collect a few kind-of friends, the most friend-like being the ex-Navy SEAL Adrian/drag queen Sister Rose. But I’m confident there are others out there would could compliment Raylene’s demenor. The first one that comes to mind is Nathaniel Cade from Christopher Farnsworth’s series of the same name. Cade is an assassin, a vampire and rather endures humans. (Also, you really should read The President’s Vampire. So. Freaking. Good.)

And with that, the contest portion: Suggest a friend for Raylene to be entered to win a copy of Hellbent (Cheshire Red #2). This person can be fictional or real, literary or otherwise, but let’s help Raylene make a friend or two.

  1. This book looks great! I would love to befriend Raylene. 🙂
I think she would get along very well with Zarek or Valerius from the Dark-Hunter novels. (Though not necessarily in the same room because they don’t always get along with each other.)

Thank you so much for the giveaway!

How about Christophe from Strange Angels series by Lily St Crow

  3. Mel S says:

Hmmm…sounds like she’d get along with Jaz Parks – Jaz doesn’t suffer fools and as a CIA Assassin has plenty of experience sneaking into and out places – plus she can hold her own!

(I’m not US so don’t enter me in teh giveaway – I just wanted to answer the question! 🙂

  4. Vicki says:

Well, if Clair Danvers from Morganville Vampires can befriend Amelie and Myrnin… I think she would be a great friend for Raylene.

  5. Viki S. says:

I think she’d get along great with Gena Showalters Mia from her Alien Huntress series. Mia hates every creature :).

  6. RachaelM says:

I agree with Vicki that if Clair Danvers can befriends Myrnin and Amelie that she could be anyone’s friend including Raylene. I like Raylene as she is though so maybe having too many friends would change her outlook and she wouldn’t be the same Raylene.

Maybe I’m weird, but I’d love to see how Raylene and Sabina Kane (and Giguhl!!!) get along. 😉

  8. ML says:

Hmmm, if she’s a tad antisocial she may begrudgingly get along with Barrons and maybe even Christian MacKeltar from KMM’s Fever series.

  9. Amy Feltus says:

I think Merit from the Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill. Merit rolls with the punches, doesn’t take put up with anything and is a bada** with a sword!

  10. Reanna says:

I think Raylene would get along well with Lady Lyssa from The Vampire Queen Series by Joey W. Hill. As long as she can keep her eyes of Lyssa’s servant that is!

  11. Garrett says:

Let’s see… from Jim Butcher’s THE DRESDEN FILES:

Lara Raith – all business, and all play. Wait, the two are one and the same for her.
Jared Kincaid – They’d operate well on a professional level, I think. They don’t call him the Hellhound for nothin’.

  12. Cate says:

She will be a good friend to Cat from the night huntress series. Both of them can kick ass! Please enter me in the giveaway.thanks! Kayko118(at)yahoo(dot)com.

  13. Denise Z says:

I would love to be Raylene’s friend:) I am a very nice person that always has my nose in a book or at the computer. I am a loyal friend and will definitely pull out my carbine, Uzi, Sig Sauer or whatever is needed from my arsenal when she gets in a jam and needs my help or backup just as long as she lets me bookmark my page LOL Thank you for the fun. I read The President’s Vampire and really enjoyed it:)

  15. Lingeorge says:

Perhaps Kim Harrison’s Rachael Morgan — she is very open to types of friends. Or, maybe Lilith Saintcrow’s Jill Kismet — she too, has trouble handling “friends”.

  16. Jodie Pierce says:

Well…it sounds like Raylene is doing just fine on her own but if she wants a friend it should be someone unique, not someone from another book series. Perhaps a potential lover that is just at tough as her that also “just tolerates” her and makes her work for him. If you don’t want to go that route, a fledgling vampire that she has to “take care of” or that has to tag along with her would be fun as well. Hope this helps.
Good luck and happy reading to all!

  17. Sariah says:

I am reading Chicagoland series right now, so I would have to say Merit. She seems opened minded to many different people.

  18. Stephanie says:

I think Faythe from the Shifter series, I know they aren’t the same species, but they are both strong women so I think they would get along!

  19. Amanda says:

Friends cause you more work and trouble most of the time so this friend would have to be extremely non-needy to be tolerated by Raylene. The only character that I can think of that also has little use for most everyone and everything would be Pam from Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse series. Pam doesn’t put up with anyone or anything. I bet she would be a wild night out. Just what Raylene needs – blow off some steam with no strings attached. Thanks for the giveaway!!

  20. Jillene says:

I think Raylene would get along well with Chess from the Downside Ghosts books by Stacia Kane. They’re both a little stand-offish, fiercely independent and pretty bad-ass.

  21. Sara M says:

They’re smaller characters, but I think Peter and Cody from Richelle Mead’s Georgina Kincaid series could possibly be her friends due to their sarcastic sense of humor.

  22. Elvi says:

Well, first of all I would LOVE to be Raylene’s friend. But thinking of a no-nonsense, direct, un-needy person makes me think of Elli Quinn from Bujold’s Vorkosigan series. I know, I know, space opera is far removed from urban fantasy, but what the heck? I think they’d get along.

  23. LaDonna says:

I think Anita Blake would be a good friend for Raylene. Neither women stand for BS and don’t care for complications in their lives. Although Anita has alot of men in her life to complicate it she could use a level headed no drama women friend in her life to just kick back with.
