Alpha Showdown 2011 Champion: Jericho Z. Barrons

VBC Presents: ALPHA SHOWDOWN 2011As so many of you have pointed out, Barrons is the alpha and the omega. He lets his actions speak for him, and that means if you call IYD (If You’re Dying) you best mean it. The fans of Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series came out in force to make sure this alpha male took the title of the most badass of badasses. You can review all the earlier bouts and enjoy seeing Barrons top them all on the Alpha Showdown page.

As he’s your champion, I pulled 10 comments from the final round touting love and appreciation for Barrons:

No person, monster or being can compare to Jericho Barrons. He is the ultimate Alpha male all in one package. – Frieda H.

Barrons. FTW. every. goddamn. time. – Lele

I think Barrons is the ultimate Alpha because, um…he can’t die. And he can have sex for 5 days. Probably longer if given the opportunity. – Smash Attack

Its like a Shitzu puppy going against a Pit Bull. Man vrs Boy, Barrons will eat Jace up for breakfast! – Annie

Are you kidding me here? If Barrons were to meet Jace (as much as I think Jace is a cutie), there is no question who would win. Barrons would just look at Jace and the little blond yummy-boy would quake. Barrons all the way! – Julie

It’s Barrons all the way baby. He is the ultimate male, protective, domineering, and the one that will never let you die. Who could ask for more? Well I wish I could find my Barrons outside the pages of a book lol. – Kymbreleigh

When you look up Alpha in the dictionary ~there’s a picture of Barrons!!!! – Sharon

Barrons EATS runes as candies! – Maralya

Go Team Jerricho!! Alpha male from the beginning to the end. From the growl to his well shoed feet. Silences with a mere look and makes Fae and Unseelie cringe. – Sissy

I supported Kate & Curran in the prior Alpha wars so I feel like a turncoat, but only someone who beat Kate & Curran could be Alpha. My vote goes to Barrons. – Jodie B.

If you haven’t already read the Fever series, head over to our Alpha Showdown Shoutouts post for your chance to win it (or the first title in any series featured during the Showdown). For the rest of us, revel in the victory — and keep a watchful eye on Karen Marie Moning’s site, as she promised a Barrons POV sex scene should he emerge victorious.

Huzzah! Bring on the Barrons, raw and uncensored!

  2. Jodie B. says:

I’ve never read anything by Karen Marie Moning, but after the pounding Barrons gave everyone I ordered the Fever series. I hope it’s as good as everyone thinks. I’ve been looking for a new series that is so terrific I can’t put the book down and forget to eat. LOL That’s one of my definitions of a great book! 🙂

    • sini says:

You wont be eating for a week straight then 😛 that is until you finish all of them 😀 Fever series really is awesome!

  3. Dellla howells says:

I am going to order the Barrons series. As I love the Cat Bones series so much have re read them loads of time.Finding it hard to believe that these will be as good. Can’t wait.

    • Joanne says:

The Fever series is like nothing you have ever read before. It is not a ‘romance’ really – more urban fantasy in my opinion. If you’re looking for a paranormal romance, this is not the series because it isn’t that at all.

      • Sobriquet says:

Well it IS a paranormal romance, it’s just a much larger arc than a single book. You just have to think of the 5 books as installments on one big novel. The romance is in there, it just takes some growth and isn’t the sole driving force for the series. The plot drives the romance instead of the romance driving the plot. 😀

  4. Letah says:

“Raw and uncensored” … as if Barrons could be anything else? OH SWOON!!!

  5. sini says:

The fact that Barrons won is of no surprise… I would have loved it if Bones and Barrons had fought though… would have been a damn good fight that… 😀

  6. yael says:

It was clear that it was going to win. I love you Barrons!!

  8. denny says:

Barrons and Bones were my favorites but between Barrons and Jace there was no doubt who the alpha is.
“He studied me with his predator’s gaze, assessing me from head to toe. I studied him back. He didn’t just occupy space; he saturated it. The room was full of books before, now it was full of him. About thirty, six foot two or three, he had dark hair, golden skin, and dark eyes. His features were strong, chiseled. I couldn’t pinpoint his nationality any more than I could his accent; some kind of European crossed with Old World Mediterranean or maybe an ancestor with dark Gypsy blood.”

  9. Bella says:

Jericho Barrons … just his name rolling off my tongue … well, let’s just say ‘the bad boy can come to my place anytime.’

JZB is the and will always be THE ALPHA, THE OMEGA, the TRUE MAN of MEN!

  10. Joanne says:

I think everyone who hasn’t read the Fever series needs to know that it isn’t really a paranormal romance. I would classify it as urban fantasy to be honest. There is tons of sexual tension but if you’re looking for sex, you’ll be disappointed, at least for the first 3 books.
I believe it is probably the best series I’ve ever read. It’s really complex but since the series if finished, you won’t have to deal with waiting a year or more for the next installment. Those things just about killed me.

  11. Smash Attack says:

There was never a doubt. 😉
    *waits patiently for smex*

  12. As a couple have mentioned above, the Fever series isn’t paranormal romance (though many bookstores will shelve it there). It’s a very dark urban fantasy with a lot of sexual tension. Eventually things will develop, but like with the Kate Daniels series — the crux of the story isn’t falling in love, etc.

I know some of you have read the Chicagoland Vampires series, think back to early Merit/Ethan interactions — they weren’t a couple, they weren’t dating, but there was this undeniable connection. Barrons and Mac have that in the Fever series — only it’s more volatile and direct.

That said, the Fever series really is a must-read. The first book is good, but once you hit BLOODFEVER, you will not be able to stop. (Reviews of all five books can be found under our Reviews by Author page).

  13. Heather says:

Thankyou VBC for this entertaining showdown – but most of all Thankyou for motivating KMM to write a sex scene from Barrons POV! The Fever series is my favorite, and I’ve read quite a few of the series in the showdown. Thanks again : )

  14. Jennifer says:

Long Live Our Alpha!!!! There wasn’t any doubt who was the top dog in this fight!

  15. Ash says:

Oh yeah! The competition was too obvious! I mean come on! Jace vs. Barrons? Not even a competition! Great job JZB!

  16. Athena says:

  17. Rhonda says:

Absolutely knew that Barrons would win hands down!!! He is the ALPHA and OMEGA. Curious about the percent he won by though.

  18. ferdy says:

No one had stood a chance against BARRONS!!

  19. Joanna says:

Oh, how I love a bad boy and Barrons is the baddest of the all!

  20. Amanda says:

Of course Barrons won! So excited for our POV scene coming up! I feel the urge to read some parts of Shadowfever again… or maybe Book 4 Chapter 4 in anticipation!!! Barrons is the biggest… baddest… with all the toys!!!! WOOHOO!!!

  21. Joani S says:

I wonder how much closer the vote might have gone if the showdown had been between Bones and Barrons. With Barrons and Jace it was almost a sure thing who won. Nobody beats Barrons! I love all 3 dearly, but I really love me some JZB! 🙂

  22. Penelope says:

Barrons is THE alpha male!!! Was there ever any question? 😉

    …I’m so glad he won!

  23. savanna says:

ummm was thare even a thought that he would have not won?
