V.C. Andrews guest post & giveaway: Brayden’s love letter to Amber

From VBC: The new V.C. Andrews* novel Into the Darkness boasts some serious sexual tension and dives into the balance between desire and obsession. It also focuses on what is and isn’t real. Today, in our final Character Love Letter, we have the hero of Into the Darkness, Brayden, tacking the painful separation from heroine Amber. And we’re giving away a copy of the book. Read on to swoon.

Into the Darkness by V.C. AndrewsDear Amber,

I know even after the short time we have spent together that my sudden leaving, disappearance, as you will think of it, will be a disappointment to you.

There is nothing I would want to do less than hurt and disappoint you. For now, I just hope I can get you to believe that and believe that leaving you was far more painful for me than it was or could be for you.

I know that love has to be built on trust, and if there is anything I can be positive about it is that we have loved each other. All I can do is ask you trust me when I say there was nothing I could do to prevent this.

As painful as it is for me to say it, I must. I will never be able to see you again. You can ask what value was it that we ever saw each other? Wasn’t it simply placing both of us in an inevitably painful destiny?

Someone once wrote that it was better to have love and lost and then never to have loved at all. I can only fall back on that wisdom and hope that someday, perhaps not in the near future, but someday, you will embrace that idea as well and not hate me and what we had, even for so short a time.

So much of life is transient, short-lived, but yet of great value to us. Would we be better off never to have experienced it? I think not and I hope you will think not.

I realize you can’t make sense of any of this right now. The shock of it will stun you and you might even blame yourself. I hope that won’t happen.

I can only tell you that what we had together even for that short time is as enduring and eternal as the very heavens we looked up at while I held you and wished that the darkness would keep us safe forever and ever.

I’m in your heart. Look for me in those stars.
