Alpha Showdown 2012 at Vampire Book ClubThere’s no question both the characters in Round 4 of the Alpha Showdown are lethal.

Vampire Dmitri is ruthless and had a long time to hone his skills. But he’s up against The Spider. Gin Blanco from is an assassin, who can kill you with a paperclip, and she can flex some elemental magic. Two tough alphas this time, and I’m rather pleased you are the ones making the call.

Read the pitches, then make the call. Who should advance to the next round in the Alpha Showdown? The poll at the end of this post will be open for two days. Remember, alphas don’t share titles. Your votes decide who advances in the Alpha Showdown 2012.

ROUND 4: DMITRI vs. GIN BLANCO

Dmitri

Archangel's Blade by Nalini SinghYou know him from: Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series. He is the hero in, Archangel’s Blade (VBC review, Buy it at Amazon).
First Appeared In: Angels’ Blood (Buy it at Amazon)

Supernatural Status: Vampire

Championed by: His girlfriend aka Smexy from Smexy Books | @smexybooks

Dmitri. His name rolls off your tongue dark and delicious. His tongue is extremely skilled in other matters tongues are used for. But I digress. In this ‘Alpha Showdown’ competition, he is the biggest, baddest, and most tortured of them all. He uses his deep rooted pain, to smack down the other so-called alphas with a flick of his finger.

He is 1,000 years old and the leader of Archangel Raphael’s security team, which means he is not only bad ass, but very trustworthy as well. Hey Gin Blanco – how old are you? That’s right – you just go back into that kitchen and make more pies.

He oozes sex appeal, literally. His aroma of chocolate and champagne makes every woman think lusty thoughts. He not only has brutal strength when fighting an enemy, but a brutal wickedness when seducing a lady.

“I’m fairly certain you’re not a nice man at all.”

His answer was a slow smile that whispered of silk sheets, erotic whispers, and sweat-damp skin. The unhidden intent of it had her heart slamming hard against her ribs. “No,” she said, voice raw.

“A challenge.” He wasn’t touching her and yet she felt caressed by a thousand ropes of fur, soft and lush and unmistakably sexual. “I accept.”

Dmitri will kill all of your enemies then make nasty, dirty love to you all while smelling like chocolate and champagne. Ladies and gents… we have our winner.

Gin Blanco

Spider's Bite by Jennifer EstepYou know her from: Elemental Assassin Series by Jennifer Estep
First appeared in: Spider’s Bite (Vikki’s review, VBC review, Buy it at Amazon)

Supernatural status: Elemental

Championed by: Vikki at V’s Book Life | @vbooklife

‘My name’s Gin and I kill people.’

Gin Blanco is an assassin. Not just any assassin, the most feared assassin in the South…and with good reason. She’s lethal, completely ruthless and doesn’t hide it. I love that Gin doesn’t pretend to be something she’s not. Gin will always be an assassin first and foremost. She’s the Spider…and she kills people. End of. Gin has rules, no kids, no pets, and no innocents. Just don’t think this makes her weak. She is no angel and she revels in it.

My girl got skillz! She’ll find you when you’re most vulnerable and slide her Silverstone knife into your heart…and then cut your throat for good measure. Gin’s the best, unbeatable in a knife fight…but it’s her elemental magic that really sets her apart. Born with more raw power than anyone in living memory, Gin can level buildings or tear apart mountains with a single thought, create thousands of icicle knives to slice through a body or flash freeze you into a human Popsicle. The number of ways she can kill you is truly scary. I wouldn’t even trust her with a teaspoon, because she’ll find some way to end your life with it!

Gin may be tough on the outside…and I mean that in the most literal sense since she can turn her skin as hard as marble…but beneath the tough exterior is the little girl who watched her family’s murder…and her own torture at the hands of the most powerful Fire elemental in 500 years. But this little girl’s all grown up…and out for revenge.

Loyal to a fault, Gin is definitely one who you would rather have as your best friend than an enemy. When she’s not kicking ass, she’s making the best food in the South…A girls gotta have a hobby right…and let’s face it, she’s got skills with those knives. My girl is the ultimate Alpha Female. Watch out everyone, because Gin’s about to crash this party ☺

You may be 1,000 year-old Dmitri, but you’ve never met someone like Gin. That little penchant for knives you have, well, Gin is more than happy to oblige…a knife through the heart and another to take your head should suffice don’t you think? So you’re strong, so you’re fast, so you smell good…but Gin’s taken out better without breaking a sweat. Bring it on Dmitri, but if I were you…I’d run, run as far and as fast as you can because once the Spider has you in her sights…she won’t stop until you are dead…permanently.

SHOWDOWN VOTE!

  1. Hannah says:

For this one it’s gotta be Dmitri. I mean, sure Gin is tough, but the toughest of her enemies has never been even a tenth of what Dmitri is. AND they’ve all managed to beat her most way dead. Dmitri is intelligent, not the cunning of most of the people Gin’s been up against. He’s also used to fighting other vampires and angels (who are essentially indestructible and heal in seconds). Dmitri has fully realised his powers whereas Gin is still reluctant to use hers at times.

  2. Marina says:

Wow! I should read about Gin, she sounds…..interesting!

  3. Choffee says:

Dimitri! This is one vampire i loved even when we just saw his mean scary side

  4. Angela says:

It’s gotta be Dmitri because he is Dmitri *swoon*. An archangel and the gorgeous Seven have his back although he does not really need it (apart from chapter 1 in the next book, spoiled by the lovely Nalini Singh, btw).

  5. Julie says:

This is why I LOVE the Alpha showdown. I haven’t read the Elemental Assassin series, but I will now! And because I haven’t read it yet, I gotta go with Dmitri.

  6. Munchkin says:

Yes, you need to read Gin in the Elemental Series !

  7. Sheena T. says:

I am sad to say I have never read any of these series. But I still voted for Gin. By her description alone I will now be reading the Elemental series. Oh dont worry I will be checking out Dmitri’s series also. Equal opportunity gal I am. But thank you VBC for the Showdown if it was not for you I would not be finding out about these other series. Loving it. Keep it up. 🙂

  8. April says:

I have never read the Elemental Assassin series but im definitely going to now. Gin seems like shes a bad ass. I love Dmitri but I got a soft spot for tough girls in leather pants.

  9. CdnMrs says:

Gotta go with Dmitri on this one. Sorry, you had me at champagne, chocolate and nasty sex. Oh yeah, and he’s super tough too…Who am I kidding? He got my vote for the nasty sex. *shrugs* I’m shallow that way. 😉

  10. Amy M says:

This one was tough for me. I’ve read and loved every Elemental Assassin book in the series so far. Gin goes through a lot but always manages to kick ass.

Dmitri’s character didn’t click for me until his book was released this past year. I was so surprised that I actually liked him after I really didn’t care for him that much in the previous books.

  11. Peachy says:

OMG! This is actually a hard one for me,being as I love both of these series. They are both highly recommended. Gin is awesome, but Dimitri is a whole nother breed of vampire than the one’s she used to dealing with. But still, he ain’t used to anybody like Gin.

  12. I have both series on my TBR list and I have 1st book for both series on my Nook but I’ve not read them yet. So I don’t feel right in voting for either. But I agree this is a great way to meet new characters.

  13. Inga says:

Oh, my vote goes to Gin, because i really love her. She is AMAZING! 🙂 and i didn’t read another books. But sins everyone seems to like these series i will go and order Guild Hunter books now 🙂 thank you!

  14. Carla says:

GIN ALL THE WAY! She is the ultimate bad a** when it comes to a show down. She’s a trained/skilled/highly dangerous assassin/most powerful elemental in 5 generations. Come on! This vampire would have no chance of surviving! SHE’S THE FREAKING SPIDER! Dwarves, vampires, giants, elementals, etc, you name it and Gin gets it done! I can’t say what I want because of spoilers but go read the series and then you will know what I mean. You won’t be disappointed. 🙂

    • Vikki says:

I know what you mean! I really wanted to put some more stuff in the post but didn’t want to ruin the series for any new readers…I mean come on though! Gin can kick this vampire’s ass, no problem 🙂

      • Carla says:

Lol.I know, RIGHT! Gin is hardcore! I would put my money on Gin against any character out there. She has defeated numerous opponents with serious detriment to herself. Still she continues to rise. She’s dangerous with a capital D. No bars on that woman. Her eyes alone will tell anyone within spitting distance not to get too close. lol. To beat it all, Jennifer Estep, isn’t done with Gin. With all her knife slashing and scrapping skills, that is gruesomely awesome enough, she is an Elemental with 2 elements at her beckon call. SHE’S NOT EVEN AT FULL STRENGTH YET! haha. To me, the only real difficult challenge for Gin would be to go up against Logan Quinn and Gwen Frost- Jennifer Estep’s Mythos Academy- as a team. Still.. Difficult or not, I believe Gin would defeat them and walk away without a backwards glance. 😛

      • Carla says:

BTW, EXCELLENT work on your piece of Gin! I chuckled @ “I wouldn’t even trust her with a teaspoon, because she’ll find some way to end your life with it!” Good job!

    • Caro says:

      I agree!

      • Vikki says:

Thanks you guys 🙂 I wanted to do Gin justice since she is the best there is! I mean she takes on the heavyweights and wins, she has so much thrown at her but she takes her hits and comes back twice as hard! Giants, Dwarfs, Vampires, Elementals, Assassins…there is no one she can’t beat 🙂
Plus she always makes me hungry when she’s describing the awesome food she makes 🙂

  15. Andie says:

Absolutely Dmitri!! I mean, I ALMOST love him as much as i love Raphael, and that says something… *sigh*

  16. Juliette says:

I went with Gin, only because I haven’t read the Guild Hunter series yet, but Dimitri foes sound pretty awesome! But Gin really is such a bad #*s, I haven’t finished the first book yet, but she prooves her lethal creativity very early on!

  17. Faith Hines says:

Dmitri hands down! I like Gin, but Dmitri is the right hand of an Archangel. Other angels fear & respect him, that is not an easy thing to gain. He is sexy, intelligent, & lethal…

  18. Denise Z says:

As I have not spent any time with Dmitri, I have to vote for Gin. I bought book one some time ago and have had it in my TBR. I started reading it this past weekend and have not been able to come up for air. I enjoyed it so much I immediately decided that for Mother’s Day I would treat myself to the series and am I having fun! Go Gin! Of course to be fair I suppose I will have to go on and read about Dmitri next LOL what a shame (not!). Thanks for the fun today.

  19. Lexi says:

    Tough call….love them both!!

  20. ColdStone says:

Gin has killed several vampires in her own right and has the power or Ice and Stone at her call

  21. She’s an assassin! So of course she should be the one winning this!

  22. Maria says:

I had to go with Gin…she’s an assassin who has mad skills!

  23. Caro says:

For those of you, who have not read The Elemental Assassin series, Please do. It is great. So is the Guild Hunter series. Love them both. Both of these series are great on audio.

  24. Lege Artis says:

Dmitri all the way! Man is hot as hell! That man can melt Arctic ice blocks with his hotness! What’s a little ice elemental power…?;) And Gin’s stone power? Sure, she can make earthquake, but Dmitri can make woman fall around without earthquake.
