After a little more than a week of grueling battles, we finally have our first match-up in the second level.
Bones straight-up crushed witch Rachel Morgan.
Then Charles Cornick took our King Dorian.
Will the master vampire sink his fangs into the werewolf? Will being an alpha enforcer make it easy to stake the vampire? As always, that’s up to you.
Read the pitches, then make the call. Who should advance to the next round in the Alpha Showdown? The poll at the end of this post will be open for two days (closing at 11:59 p.m. CST on May 23). Remember, alphas don’t share titles. Your votes decide who advances in the Alpha Showdown 2012.

Bones has gone head to head with a voodoo queen, ghosts, government agencies, a scary mother-in-law and the most-lauded literary vampire of all time, all to stand up for his woman and his people. Arguably, the most powerful vampire on the planet chose to share power with him. He’s looked death in the face and came out on the other side stronger. If you want the definitive Alpha, you need to look no further than Bones.
You want examples? Fine, take a seat and lets discuss what happens when you combine lethal precision, deadly fangs and undead sex drive to spare. Cat was unfortunate enough to come up against a vampire who had a heart literally in the wrong place. As the result of a staking gone wrong, Bones was about to lose Cat. He beheaded that vampire with the hood of a car. Yeah, that’s right, he slung a car hood with piercing accuracy.
Need more? He ripped the limb off a ghoul and, to add insult to injury, beat the ghoul with his own arm. I don’t know about you, but to bitch slap someone around with their own arm seems pretty badass to me. Not only that, but Bones appears to now have the ability to telekinetically whoop ass. That’s right, brawn and brains. He’s taken a bullet to the head, been faced death, had his mind taken over and fought with demons, all to come out better, stronger and faster on the other side.
Let’s not forget that nobody can rock chain mail like Bones.
When he’s not shagging Cat senseless or traveling the world keeping wayward vamps in line, he hangs with Mencheres, Spade, Ian and, on the rare occasion, Vlad. His line pays their tithes willingly and wet themselves at the very mention of his name. Why? Because he’s Bones. And he’s the ultimate Alpha.
You know him from: Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs
First appeared in: Technically, Charles first shows up in Moon Called (Buy it at Amazon), the first Mercedes Thompson book, but later appears more prominently in the Alpha and Omega novella Cry Wolf (Buy it at Amazon).
Supernatural status: Werewolf

Charles Cornick is a silent and deadly werewolf, who is dominant enough to back down an alpha of a pack without drawing on the strength of his alpha. He has been his pack’s top enforcer for more than one hundred years. Charles prefers to go without reinforcements to a kill because he believes that more wolves tend to muck things up. He is so superior at his job that even members of his own pack are afraid of him.
Charles draws on his skills in martial arts and his magic skills he received from his mother’s side of the family to help him in his job as assassin for his father and alpha, Bran. He thinks of his job as enforcer as carrying out justice, but at the same time he tries not to hate himself for being good at killing.
Charles is very much in touch with his wolf; he calls him brother wolf and uses him as his guide in many things. And like all werewolves he is dangerous, angry and possessive. Do not try to harm or take what is his.
Mmmmmmm I love me some Charles!!!
I’d be happy to be his anytime… LOL
Lisa 🙂
Bones! Nuff Said!
I haven’t exactly gotten to Alpha and Omega, but I need to! I”ve read Mercy though, but I doubt I’d vote differently. I mean it’s Bones for crying out loud! 😉
Bones! Bones! Bones! Love you forever. What can I say? Bones is the ultimate Alpha. He can and will kick your ass! Take every cheap shot you can and kick ’em when they’re down. Learned that from him. Is he a bad ass or what??
Bones! I love Charles too though. Jeaniene Frost and Patricia Briggs are two of my all-time favourite authors, and I absolutely love both Bones and Charles. But Bones gets my vote. 🙂
I’m with you on this one. I love both Bones and Charles and Jeaniene Frost and Patricia Briggs are definitely 2 of my fav authors but Bones gets the vote on this one. 🙂
Oh Bones, now that Cat is out, you have to win for her! Besides, it’s Bones…’nuff said!
Yes! Yes! Bones has to make it very far for Cat! And it’s Bones, nuff said! Hehehe! 😉
WTH! This is like the cruelest ever! I’m a fan of both. How am I suppose to choose?!?!
BONES! BONES! BONES! BONES! BONES!
Don’t worry after an internal debate BONES won at the end.
It’s got to be Bones. I love Charles but he’s got long hair FFS (why do so many UF/Paranormal ‘heroes’ have long hair? I don’t get the atttraction, maybe ‘cos I have difficulty growing my own hair past shoulder length).
Also, Bones has a cool British accent
Bones!!!! Although I do like Charles.. Bones is just so…… I mean come on.. he’s just kick-a@# and wow so so hot hot hot… LOL
Charles who?? Bones FTW!!
Bones! I like Charles but I love Bones!
Bones and somebody else? Is this even needed? Bones wins hands down.
You are absolutely right, Samina, there is no one else! Bones is the end all, be all of Alphas. The things he does with his fangs alone would get my vote 🙂
So many have already said it, but it’s Bones! ’nuff said
I love Charles but have to give it to Bones.
I have to say I love Bones. I have a crush on him. I wanted to vote for who I think would actually win though. I think Charles just might be able to kick his ass.
Super bad alpha Bones all the way. Bones could easily take out Charles or be lenient and train Charles to fetch his slippers like a good wolfy.
My poor Charles. I have a feeling he will get blown out of the water by Bones. 🙁
I would vote for Bones too but since I’m Charles’ champion he gets my vote.
Really? Thats so hard!
Sorry, Bones wins in my book every time!
Now this one is hard!!!! If it were a match in the bedroom I’d have to go with Bones, but it’s not. I think battle wise both Charles and Bones are pretty evenly matched so I’ll just sit this one out and let you ladies decide
Sorry Charlie, Bones is it.
I love Charles but I have to go with bones here
Thats not even a fair shot….Bones would win against anyone! He’s just awesome like that!
I think so too.
Oh, definitely Bones….
I’m going for Charles!
Too bad Bones got knocked out by Jace last year. I would have loved to see a Bones vs. Barrons.
I heart Charles lots, but it’s Bones all the way in this match up! Now pit him against Mercy’s Adam and I *might* have been a little more torn 😉
I love Charles but I had to vote for Bones….pretty much sucked having to choose between these two
Bones!!! oh I love him so!
Bones!! Oh how I love him so!
I gotta go with Bones. If it were Bran it would be a different story.
I agree, Bran is very scary!
Chapter 32. Nuff said.
I live Charles… But he’s up against Bones. Bones. Do I have to say more?
Taryn I’m with you…Chapter 32 and Bones..always. HUGS
Having read both series,in a fight Bones would have almost no chance. Charles being telekinetic himself (which neutralizes Bones greatest ability from Menchares) as the grandson of a shaman, has immunity to most magic from both bloodlines and is taught how to fight by one of the knights of the round table (Marrok is listed among the knights in the Mabigonion, and Marrok is his father) on top of coming from two dual magic lines (shaman and druid) and is a werewolf and at least as old as Bones. Its a good thing this is a popularity contest rather than a fight based on strengths and weaknesses of the actual characters.
Jeaniene Frost is one of the best author’s that I have had the pleasure of reading her Night Huntress Series. I loved it. It was dangerous, always had you on the edge of your seat, funny in places between Bones and Cat, but very romantic in others. It is a series that will make you laugh, cry, piss you off, and still keep you wondering what will happen next. I am so hoping that Jeaniene will keep Night Huntress going, even though there is a sort of spin off with Night Prince Series with Vlad being the prince. I look for it to be a great series, but if it is going to be as good as Night Huntress with Cat and Bones is yet to be seen. I guess we will just have to wait and read!!!lol….
Happy reading and writing*
Teresa
Wow!! This one is hard!! But I think I have to go with Bones here!!
I’m going to vote for Charles. He was awesome in Fair Game. Plus it’s been awhile since I’ve read a Night Huntress book.
Love Patricia Brigg’s novels, but Bones has my heart! 🙂
Honestly, i just see the name “Bones” and i melt… the only real battle in this thing(for me)will happen if Bones and the Beast Lord *swoon* ever go head-to-head.
I love both Bones & Charles, though I think I’m a bigger Charles fan. Unfortunately, in a fight between the two I’m pretty sure Bones would win. Charles is an amazing fighter & he has Brother Wolf to help him, plus a bit of magic. He would beat any vamp from his world, just not if they were anything like Bones. Bones is a great fighter, plus he’s got all those extra powers going for him. It just wouldn’t be a fair fight. Both men are Alpha’s in their own right, but between the 2 Bones is top dog.
Accidentally hit enter too early…
I haven’t read Fair Game yet, so I may just be eating my vote once I get to it.
Charles Cornick, paws down
It has to be Bones! There’s no way he wouldn’t win-he’s such a bad-a@*!
Bones is special and very powerful, but I believe Charles could and would take him, especially after making peace with himself (about most of the recent executions his Da has required) during Fair Game.
I love me some Bones, and if I was voting before reading the Alpha and Omega series, I am sure I would have voted Bones. But Charles is just AWESOME. As Anna tells another character about Charles in Hunting Ground, “He is very protective, In a very Nietzschean ‘that which does not kill us makes us stronger’ sort of way. At least there won’t be twenty feet of snow here.” He protects, but also works to make sure that his mate can protect herself. True Alpha material.
Bones FTW! Take every cheap shot, every low blow! There is only one way to fight, and that’s dirty.
Charles!
Bones all the way!!!
Ahh, this one is tough… I love Bones, but Charles is more Alpha IMO.
This vote was extremely UNFAIR!!! I love them both!!!
Bones! The Ultimate Vampire.
