Today’s the final preliminary round of the Alpha Showdown. We couldn’t make it an easy one. We have two feisty, strong woman up this time. Will you go with Kate Daniels, who wields both magic and one hell of a sword, or Rose Hathaway, who has killed so many strigoi that we’ve lost count?
You can get a refresher on just what this Alpha Showdown thing is here, but a key point to remember: Each poll is open for only 48 hours. Then, the champion will advance to the next round until only one alpha remains. So, vote while you can. (Jump to the poll)
Championing for Kate: Kristin from My Bookish Ways
Kate Daniels isn’t your typical heroine. Yes, she’s tough and feisty, and can handle herself in a brawl, but she’s also vulnerable, and finding love hasn’t been easy for her. However, like a champ, she takes her licks and keeps on truckin’, while all hell is usually breaking loose around her. Loyal to a fault, she’ll protect her friends to the death, and is constantly throwing (yes, throwing) herself into harm’s way to defend the innocent.
Armed with her trusty (and powerful) sword, Slayer, plenty of attitude, and the ability to call powerful magic at the tips of her fingers (and that ain’t all), Kate is not a girl to be trifled with. It also doesn’t hurt that she’s mate to the Beast Lord Curran, second-in-command in charge of more than 1,000 tough-as-nails shapeshifters (nice back-up to have, huh?). Kate is also stubborn enough to put up with His Crankiness’ disposition and keep him on his toes (and coming back for more.)
If you ever have to battle any manner of shapeshifter, rakshasha (nasty, nasty, things), or rogue vamp, Kate is someone you’ll want at your back!
Championing for Rose: Lily from ShadowKissed.com
So who is the ultimate badass? That alpha to rule all others? Rose Hathaway, of course.
An alpha is the one that everyone else relies on, the one to whom they look to for guidance, and the one who can encourage others into battle, even when all hope is lost. Rose Hathaway has all these attributes.
At the same time, Rose is loyal, dedicated, incredibly brave and she is always ready with some smartass comeback whenever the chance arises. Of course, it helps if your body can fill the checks your mouth writes, something Rose is well able to do. You can’t spend however many years on the run from the biggest, baddest paranormal creatures around without developing a skill or two in the meantime (although the years at St. Vladimir’s probably helped, too).
One thing that differentiates Rose from some of the other contenders is the value she places on human life. Some of the others just don’t seem to understand it. Even though some humans may have done despicable deeds in their lifetime she is hesitant to kill, and remorseful when she does.
Rose is quick with her fists, and her words, sprinkling her dialogue with laugh out loud sarcasm and snarkiness. Rose will fight until the end for what she believes in, never backing down. Even though she may not have the physical strength to rival some of her opponents, who think they have the right to this title, she will use her wits and creativity to find a way to defeat them. As soon as they step a foot out of line they will find out the hard way.
And lets face it… She landed Dimitri didn’t she? Who is an alpha in his own right.
Come back tomorrow when it’s time to step up to the next round of battles. Tomorrow things get difficult as we pit Cat and Bones from Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series against one another. (Hey, it’s your fault. You voted for this one.) You can see the full bracket, and keep updated on which polls are open by visiting the Alpha Showdown page.
