Book Bits: Kim Harrison, deleted makeout scenes, Ilona Andrews, Jeaniene Frost and Contest Roundup

This week we got two deleted scenes from YA novels featuring kissing — and more for the Jace/Clary scene — plus news on upcoming books from Jeaniene Frost, Ilona Andrews, Nalini Singh, P.C. and Kristin Cast and even a little video to make your day (compliments of the lovely Tessa Dare). Enjoy!

A Perfect Blood by Kim HarrisonCover tease for next The Hollows novel
I really loved Pale Demon, and the end left things wide open for Kim Harrison. I’m excited to see just where she’s going to take Rachel Morgan and The Hollows series. Today we finally have a hint. We have the great new cover art for A Perfect Blood (The Hollows #10), which releases Feb. 2012.

Deleted scene from The Iron Queen (kissing is involved!)
When I finished Julie Kagawa’s The Iron Queen (review), my only complaint was there wasn’t enough kissing. I would have taken every stolen moment with the Winter Prince. I know I’m not alone, which is why I’m so excited to share this one with you. Julie has posted an extended version of the balcony scene from the third Iron Fey book, and there is some awesome liplock action. You can read the deleted Iron Queen balcony scene here (you’ll need to scroll down).

Vlad’s book has a title!
Night Huntress fans were all sorts of excited about Vlad getting his own series, the Night Prince. Well, Jeaniene Frost has announced the title of the first book will be titled Once Burned and is tentatively scheduled for a March 29, 2012, release. While we don’t have the description yet, Jeaniene did share the tagline: “She’s a mortal with dark powers…He’s the Prince of Night…” Excited yet? (I am.)

Ilona Andrews writing Andrea’s book
You read that right. Instead of giving us a Kate Daniels book in 2012 (Kate #6 is slated for 2013), Gordon Andrews — the husband half of the Ilona Andrews writing team — explained that Andrea is getting her own book. Here’s what he said:

I am told to convey to you that this book is set in Atlanta, and takes place between Magic Slays and Kate 6 timeline wise.  Kate & Curran will be in it, but are side characters.  It is Andrea’s story, the one where she decides if she will be in the Pack and perhaps more importantly who she will be with romantically.  As I said, we have it figured out and we are going with a new villain and mythology.

New Archangel’s Blade excerpt
Because we’re all aching for Dmitri’s book, Nalini Singh has posted a second excerpt from the fourth Guild Hunter novel Archangel’s Blade. You can now read chapter one, followed by a scene from chapter two on Nalini’s website. I might have found Archangel’s Consort just so-so, but this is Dmitri. Pre-ordering may be a must.

Read Jace’s POV from the Manor scene in City of Glass
It’s hot. You kind of have been dying for this. This is what Cassie Clare had to say about the scene:

Over the years, many people have asked for this — Jace’s point of view of the “hot and heavy” scene in THIS GUILTY BLOOD, Chapter Nine of City of Glass. (Page 206-211 in the American hardback CoG.) I’ve taken a few liberties here — the scene goes on a few moments past what happens in the printed version of CoG — but then so did the original draft!

The bits below in italics are the bits from the original book, to help you mentally locate the placement of the scene.

Clary heard a sharp pattering noise all around her. For a bewildered moment she thought it had started to rain—then she realized it was rubble and dirt and broken glass: the detritus of the shattered manor being flung down around them like deadly hail.
Jace pressed her harder into the ground, his body flat against hers, his heartbeat nearly as loud in her ears as the sound of the manor’s subsiding ruins.

No point in prattling on, when you’re ready to click and read the full scene.

House of Night cover reveal
We now have the description and cover art for P.C. and Kristin Cast’s upcoming House of Night novel, Destined. And can I just say Rephraim Aurox (thanks for the catch, tlmfarmgirl!) is hot? Who knew? The book releases on Oct. 25, 2011, and can be pre-ordered now.

Destined by P.C. Cast and Kristin CastIn Destined, the forces of Light and Dark collide as their epic struggle focuses on Tulsa’s House of Night.

Zoey is home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side – and preparing to face off against Neferet. Kalona has released his hold on Rephaim, and, through Nyx’s gift of a human form, he and Stevie Rae are finally able to be together – if Rephaim can truly walk the path of the Goddess and stay free of his father’s shadow.

But is Zoey really safe? Does she truly know those who are closest to her? And will love win when it is tested by the very soul of Darkness? Find out what’s destined in the next thrilling chapter of the House of Night series.

Excerpt from The Wood Queen
Ready for the sequel to Karen Mahoney’s The Iron Witch? Well, Karen posted a snippet from The Wood Queen over at Deadline Dames.

Tessa Dare makes a book trailer for Maya Banks
What happens when you let a romance author use her kids’ toys to make a book trailer? The answer is awesomeness. See what happens when author Tessa Dare uses Ken Dolls, Candyland and more to make a book trailer for Maya Banks’ new series featuring Highlanders.
