Last week Jo reviewed P.N. Elrod’s The Hanged Man, and if you watched Twitter that day you probably saw almost every VBC reviewer (and this editor!) hit up Jo to tell her that now they had to read the book.
Maybe we’re all itching for a good fantasy with Victorian trappings. This book, though, has the mystery hook and supernatural elements that hits all our buttons. Jo actually described the book as “Sherlock Holmes meets Parasol Protectorate.”
So. Yeah.
If it flips our switches, it’s likely to do the same for you. So, we’re giving away a copy. Use the Rafflecopter form below the book’s description to enter. Or just order the book now.
On a freezing Christmas Eve in 1879, a forensic psychic reader is summoned from her Baker Street lodgings to the scene of a questionable death. Alexandrina Victoria Pendlebury (named after her godmother, the current Queen of England) is adamant that the death in question is a magically compromised murder and not a suicide, as the police had assumed, after the shocking revelation contained by the body in question, Alex must put her personal loss aside to uncover the deeper issues at stake, before more bodies turn up.
Turning to some choice allies–the handsome, prescient Lieutenant Brooks, the brilliant, enigmatic Lord Desmond, and her rapscallion cousin James–Alex will have to marshal all of her magical and mental acumen to save Queen and Country from a shadowy threat. Our singular heroine is caught up in this rousing gaslamp adventure of cloaked assassins, meddlesome family, and dark magic.
looks interesting. Xx
Love to try that!! I need away from modern!

Sherlock Holmes meets Parasol Protectorate? Count me in! This sounds fabulous!
The Hanged Man is already on my wishlist. Unfortunately I have no book budget for the next 2 weeks. It would be nice to win. 🙂
I love all that stuff, can’t wait to read it
Looks awesome.. wanna read it so bad.
Really want to read this, I love the idea of the Victorian era meets the supernatural.
Definitely interested in this book. I always enjoy Elrod’s tales, and I’ve been on a bit of a gaslamp fantasy kick lately, having been disappointed by a lot of the new steampunk I’ve tried. Just finished Leanna Renee Hieber’s The Eterna Files and am in the mood for more like that.
Basically it’s just what you said above – this hits all my catnip buttons! Plus the cover is lovely!
always looking for new books
Please enter me in the sweepstakes.

I can always get books from the library, but I HAVE to OWN all of P.N. Elrod’s books. Call it a compulsion, if you must, but I need to have copies of my own that I can read any time I feel like it. Yes, I do read them more than once, because she’s a gifted writer and I enjoy her work so much. Say it with me: She Rocks!
I can hardly wait to read it!
I’d love to win this because I’ve enjoyed P.N. Elrod’s work since I first read her Vampire Chronicles years ago. She also seems to be be a very nice human being. 🙂
