Last week we talked about those heroines we’d never swap places with in a million years. Seriously, no one wants to take Katniss’ place. But a few of you emailed and tweeting asking who I would swap shoes with, figuratively speaking. This one is harder, actually, because I like such dark novels. So, I’ll give you one obvious choice and one where you’ll all think I’m wearing my crazy pants.
Then, I want to know which books have heroines you’d go all Freaky Friday with. Maybe we’ll do a ‘Women We Want to Be’ giveaway around Mother’s Day based on the comments here (as in the books suggested in the comments here may end up as prizes — hint hint).
The easy choice: Yasmeen a.k.a. Lady Corsair from Meljean Brook’s Heart of Steel.
She’s the captain of an airship. She doesn’t let anyone — man or woman — push her around. And if you step out of line, she has no problem shaming you in front of the crew. She’s tough, edgy and can be fearless.
Basically, Yasmeen is the badass we all want to be. Screw Jack Sparrow, I want to be Lady Corsair.
The crazy pants choice: Merit from Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series.
No, really. Look, I read your arguments for why you’d never want to be Merit, but I’d still swap places. Sure, she didn’t get to choose to become a vampire, but she’s a special one. She gets to be a leader, she gets to make a difference and her fighting skills continually improve.
It would be cool to live in Cadogan House. As Sentinel there would be more responsibilities, but also more freedom. I’ll work that katana, I’d seduce Ethan and plot a way to run a blade through meddling vampires from the GP. And it would rule.
Now it’s your turn. Who would you love to be? Do you think I’m insane for my desire to join Cadogan House? Hit the comments and help build our “I want to be her” reading list.
