Is Chelsea Mueller’s Borrowed Souls for You? (+ Giveaway!)

Chelsea Mueller, author of Borrowed Souls (May 2)

Chelsea Mueller, author of Borrowed Souls (out May 2) and HBIC here at VBC.

I don’t think it surprises any of the regular Vampire Book Club readers, but I have a book out today. My debut urban fantasy. It’s called Borrowed Souls, and I think you’re going to love it. When I started this blog back in 2010, I just wanted to engage with other people who loved the kinds of books I did.

Those are the books with vampires (duh), shifters, magic, faeries, demons, and just about anything speculative. They are the books with snappy plots that keep me up way past my bedtime. They are the books with alpha males who don’t mind calling dibs, and the most brave and fierce heroines. Those are the kinds of books I still love, and even more I love that we’ve built this awesome community at VBC to share the best of the best of those kinds of books.

I love those kinds of books so much, I wrote one that packs in most of my favorite things. Though, sorry, no vampires in Borrowed Souls.

So here we are on release day, and y’all have been on this journey with me. It’d be weird to have anyone at VBC review this book, so instead I’m going to help you decide if it’s for you. Because we’re friends like that.

IS BORROWED SOULS FOR YOU?

Do you like urban fantasy? Because this is urban fantasy. Meaning if you like Patricia Briggs, Lilith Saintcrow, Ilona Andrews, Nalini Singh, Stacia Kane and such, this book is your jam.

If you’re usually a paranormal romance reader, but dig TV shows like Grimm, True Blood, Jessica Jones, The Magicians, etc., this is also for you.

If you miss the old-school, gritty goodness of urban fantasy, Borrowed Souls may scratch that itch. Carmel over at Rabid Reads said: “Chelsea Mueller grabbed the wheel, and steered the genre back into the correct lane with BORROWED SOULS. Callie & Derek do form a connection however, the focus remained on the bold, gritty roots that make this branch of Speculative Fiction so compelling.”

Borrowed Souls by Chelsea Mueller (Soul Charmer #1) // VBCDo you like when that gritty goodness meets sexy? (Seriously, who doesn’t? That’s like my book catnip!) Want sizzling sexual tension with a payoff? You’ll get that with Callie and Derek. (HFN promised!)

Can you relate to doing something for a family member even when it wasn’t in your best interest? That’s Callie, the main character from Borrowed Souls. She gets tangled into the world of soul renting because of a brother with a whole lot of problems.

If you wish classic fantasy and modern fantasy got together more often for something magical in a real-world setting, you’re covered. Booklist agrees, and adds, “readers who like dark worlds and compelling heroines will enjoy this smooth read.”

If you like the way Charles & Anna from Patricia Briggs’s Alpha & Omega series handle their problems, you will dig Callie & Derek in Borrowed Souls, if you trust Felicia from Geeky Blogger’s Book Blog …and you should, she has excellent taste.

If you want to flip the pages faster and faster the farther you get into a book, Borrowed Souls may be your jam. RT Book Reviews called it a “Fun, witty, fast-paced ride.”

If you like vodka tonics, you already have something in common with heroine Callie.

If you said at least “maybe” to one of the above, then I suggest snagging a copy of Borrowed Souls. In addition to Amazon, Book Depository, and Barnes & Noble, you can order a signed copy through Murder by the Book if you place your order before May 20 (they do ship internationally).

Also, because I like seeing your faces. I’ll have books to sign at RT Convention this week, and I’m about to hit the road, too, so you can get the full skinny on where I’ll be and when over at my Events Page.
