Laurie London Guest Post: Dom’s Love Letter

Bonded by Blood by Laurie LondonToday, we continue our series of character love letters. Laurie London’s vampire romance novel Bonded by Blood just hit shelves and it looks amazing. Abigail over at All Things Urban Fantasy — whose taste we trust — gave it a four-star review and said “If Twilight was written for girls, Bonded by Blood is written for women.” Yeah, that alone has it on our shopping list.

Add to that the final paragraph of the back cover copy: “For Dominic, a man haunted by loss, Mackenzie satisfies a primal hunger that torments him—and the bond they share goes beyond heat, beyond love. She alone can supply the strength he needs to claim his revenge. But in doing so, he could destroy her…” and we were sold. You can read an excerpt of Bonded by Blood here, or just go ahead and order it from Amazon or the Book Depository.

Luckily, Laurie was kind enough to give us even more insight into Dom and Mackenzie’s relationship by writing a love letter from him to her. For those who have already read the novel, this letter takes place between chapter 28 and 29. If you haven’t read the book, it doesn’t spoil only makes you salivate.

DOM’S LOVE LETTER TO MACKENZIE
by Laurie London

My Dearest Mackenzie,

In the early morning hours before joining you in bed, I often find myself reflecting on how different my life is from how it used to be—and it’s all because of you.

Before you, I was what you’d call a lost soul. Revenge and bitterness governed my world. I was short-tempered and selfish, consumed by the failures of my past. The future held nothing for me.

That is, until you loved me.

Somehow, you looked beyond these shortcomings and saw something inside me that I didn’t know existed. You saw me not as the man I was, but as the man you knew I could be.

It was a fine thread, indeed, which brought us together and must be divinely inspired. How else did the heavens see fit to put you into my life? Me—a flawed and imperfect man. And you, so perfect in every way.

What did I do, what can I ever do, to deserve a woman like you?

I love you with all my heart and soul.

Yours forever,
Dom

PS. I’m sensing the dream you’re having right now, and can I say this? You’re naughty, Kenz. Very naughty. However, I live to make your dreams come true.

  6. Thanks, everyone!

When Chelsea asked me to do this, I really had to put on my thinking cap so as not to make it spoilerish. For those of you who’ve read it, you know what I’m talking about. There’s a bit more that happens after he writes this letter. 😉

As I wrote this, tears welled up several times when I thought about how much Dom changed, how different he was from the beginning of the story to the end and what Mackenzie did to spark that change.

It’s amazing how powerful love can be, which, I suppose, is why I love reading and writing romance. If one person believes in you, believes that you’re capable of achieving more than you ever thought possible, it can give you the power to dig deep and do what you need to do to make it happen.

Like a teacher who sees beyond a child’s poor grades and challenges that child to do more, to become more.

It’s in you, but because it’s buried deep, sometimes it takes another person to find it for you.

I just finished the book and it is really really good. I rated it four stars on Goodreads. I love Dom & Mack. Can’t wait for Alfonzo’s story. Thank you Laurie for sharing their story.

LOVE the idea of love letters written between book characters! 🙂 The cover for this book is AMAZING! I can’t stop looking at it. It must go on my TBR list. 😀

I also like the new header on your blog!

  9. Deanna says:

Oh wow, I should not check blogs at 6:30 in the AM when I am about to get off work…tired brain! Just figured out that the letter is actually IN the BOOK! LOL. I still like it. 🙂 When I head to the book store on the 22nd I will be picking this book up with my other must buy’s!

    • No, you were right the first time. This isn’t from the book, but if you’ve read the book, it’s helpful to know where it would fall.

We’re doing a series of authors writing character love letters. The next one is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 18. Love hearing that you like it. (Makes you want more, doesn’t it?)

      • Deanna says:

Yeah it does! Glad I interpreted it right the first time. I’ll keep that in mind as I see more of these come up! I still can’t take my eyes off this cover! I’m sure If I’d never heard anything about this book I still would buy it because the cover is so hott. LOL. 🙂

  10. And that’s what true love does to us – changes us and makes us a better person. Nice letter Dom, thank you!

  11. Pim says:

I loved the letter. I’ve never read the book so this is my first time.
