I’m all for a good best friend Character Love Letter. We had one to Atticus last week. Today, Ash from Smash Attack Reads tells Gin Blanco from Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series why they need to become friends. And it’s awesome.
You are my hero. You sauntered into my life and slapped me around with your awesomeness. Your moral code is so admirable and it is why you stand out from the rest of the leading ladies in my life. You are a respectable person, even if your profession is not respected. You hold your head high and continue to impress me with your moralistic thinking, even though you have no qualms about taking out a scumbag or 20. You are ruthless and everyone knows it. Everyone. Your elemental powers are a nice perk, but your love affair with silverstone knives makes me weak in the knees.
I will not pretend that I don’t yearn for a womance with you. You know, that’s like a bromance, but with chicks. Strictly platonic, of course, but I would never leave your side. You could teach me what it’s like to kick ass and take names, and I could teach you about making the perfect café con leche and working with at-risk youth. Not your cup of sweet tea? Ok, you can choose the activities. I’d prefer not to get blood on my new coat though, but no worries. I don’t get squeamish easily. I watch The Walking Dead religiously.
You work hard, but you love even harder. You are very protective of your makeshift family, though you don’t let emotion affect your work. I sometimes wonder if all your professionalism is taking a toll on your emotional stability, but then I quickly remember that you are Gin Blanco – the Spider – and would never let such trivial things affect your aim. You have come to terms with who you are and what you do. You now help people who are in dire situations, and you do it because you have compassion, even though you are likely to drop a brick house on my head for that comment.
Don’t worry. Your secret is safe with me.
