Readers’ Choice: What’s the best book you’ve read this year?

logo

VBC Best Books of 2011The VBC Best Books of 2011 post is in the works, and I’ll try to have it up early enough to be helpful for gift giving. (You can see last year’s best of list here.) I want to try something different this year. I’m adding a Readers’ Choice portion. There are two giveaways tied to this one, to please keep reading.

If you leave a comment on this post with your favorite books — up to three — of 2011, you will be entered to win a book of your choice from our Recommendations pages. You’ll need to leave the comment on or before Nov. 20. Following that, I will tally up all the votes and the Readers’ Choice Best Book will be announced alongside the VBC favorites — and there will be a second giveaway featuring the reader pick for best book. So, choose wisely.

A few rules about what books qualify:

  • The book should have been first published in 2011. If the paperback came out this year, but the hardcover in 2010, it doesn’t count.
  • Novel-length books only. No novellas or short stories.
  • If you read an advanced copy of a book that isn’t released until 2012. Nope. Doesn’t count either.
  • Please limit your scope to books with a paranormal or dystopian focus. Both YA and adult titles are accepted.

That’s it. Tell me what’s the best book you’ve read this year?

I agree with the majority of comments that it is really hard to narrow it down. Shadowfever by Moning, one Grave at a Time by Frost, Succubus Revealed by Mead and City of Fallen Angels by Clare definitely make the cut. 🙂

  4. Laura R says:

I liked Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews, Hellbent by Cheri Priest, and One Grave at a Time by Jeannie Frost

  5. Sherry Haut says:

    Sophia by D.B.Reynolds

  6. Marie says:

I just finished the newest release from D.B. Reynolds’ Vampires in America series. The fifth book, Duncan, was romantic and action packed. Duncan shows a strength and leadership that was only hinted at previously. His heroine, Emma is a strong, highly focused modern women determined to find her friend. When they connect it’s powerful….

    Duncan by D.B. Reynolds.

  7. SARAH says:

    Duncan By D B Reynolds

  8. Anna says:

The book that blew me away was “All You Can Eat.” By Richard Miller. The vampire lives in a condo in downtown Spokane and uses an Internet dating service to meet women. But the book doesn’t even use the word vampire. It’s hyper-realistic and cynical and sometimes really really funny.

  9. Marlene Howard says:

One Grave at a time by Jeaniene Frost would have to be it for me, I love all the books in this series. But if I had to name a couple more it would be Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning and Hunt the Moon by Karen Chance. I cheated on The Fever series I kept hearing about the huge cliff hanger so I waited for the last book before I read them. I have no patience when it comes to waiting on books lol. Especially in Hunt the Moon I was like nooo I can’t stand it I want the next book already I haaaaattte waiting.

  11. Helena says:

Without a doubt ‘Nocturne’, by Syrie James.
