Alphas are very popular around VBC, but then again, so are heroines who can hold their own against these strong males. Which is why I absolutely adored Tatijana Dragonseeker. Trapped in ice for centuries with her sister Branislava, Tatijana observed Xavier’s evil. She watched his torturous methods. She also learned his spells so they could not be used against her when she finally escaped.

Armed with the determination that no man would ever hold her prisoner again, Tatijana was not ready to experience the undeniable pull of a lifemate. Until the combination of a Lycan and Carpathian walked into her life.

Fenris Dalka has been on the run, identifying more with his Lycan side rather than Carpathian, and going to ground during the full moon because his Lycan brethren looked at crossed bloodlines as an abomination and immediately issued a death sentence. Fenris fought side by side with Lycans to hunt the Sange rau, which most often comes in the form of Vampire and Lycan combination.

Such a mixture results in a creature that is extremely difficult to kill, and having fought them, obviously the Lycans want all of them abolished. However, mixes such as Fenris happen and he fights for the good. Little does he realize that his biggest allies will be the Carpathians, more specifically, Mikhail and Gregori.

If you’ve read Feehan’s Carpathian series before, you know the moments that stand out in these books—when the Carpathian male sees light for the first time in centuries, meaning that his lifemate is here. And when you read the words I claim you as my lifemate. I belong to you. I offer my life for you…  It is no different here. Fenris is blending in with the humans when he sees Tatijana. Feehan weaves an incredible imagery, because long-time fans of the series know the lifemate is the light to the dark that a Carpathian male experiences. What got an extra aww out of this reviewer is the fact that Tatijana has flaming red hair.

She’s a Dragonseeker, well knowledgeable in the Carpathian ways, and knows that both she and Fen will suffer if they don’t complete the bond. They complement one another, even aiding each other in battle. So obviously, getting these two together isn’t the crisis presented in Dark Wolf. No, that comes in the form of Lycans who put down abominations, and a people faced with extinction who seem uneasy to trust a Lycan Carpathian. Do we get that resolved?  Read the book. But I will tell you this much, Feehan lives one hell of a cliffhanger.

Have I mentioned everyone we see in this book? We get Gregori, Savannah, Mikhail, Raven, Dimitri, Skyler, Jacques, Nikolai and Destiny for starters. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, series authors who keep us aware of what is happening with the heroes and heroines from other books are scoring points with fans.

Carpathian fans, do not miss Dark Lycan. I was sorely tempted to shake the book, just so I could get a few more clues on what will happen next. Bring on Dark Wolf.
