Magic Graves offers nice fixes for both Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress and Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series in between the novels. With a short story set in each world, fans get some time with favorite characters.

The Night Huntress story, “One for the Money,” offers up a hearty Cat and Bones fix for those who love the romance angle of the novels. It gives us a taste of Cat and Bones’ more “simple” tasks — this time taking on a protection detail for a spoiled human woman. Justina ends up tagging along, too. Expect forays into the night club in Cat’s hometown and husband/wife sexy time. It does give away a few events that occur up through the third novel, At Grave’s End, but overall, wouldn’t spoil anything significant if you haven’t already dived into the series.

Andrews’ story “A Questionable Client” was something I was excited for: details on how Kate met Saiman. This novella is perfect for those who haven’t yet read the Kate Daniels books, because it gives a great peek into the world and who Kate is whilst she takes on one night of bodyguard detail for the eccentric Saiman. Kate’s trademark snark and wit permeate this prequel to Magic Bites. A definitely win.

In addition to the short glimpses into excellent series, there’s plenty of bonus sneak peek content including — oh yes — an excerpt from Once Burned, the first Night Prince novel (a.k.a. Vlad’s series). Please note: This title is available only as an eBook currently.

Sexual content: One sex scene
