ROUND 14: ADAM HAUPTMAN

vs. REYES FARROW

Silver Borne by Patricia BriggsAdam Hauptman

You know him from: The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
First appeared in:  Moon Called
Supernatural status: alpha werewolf

Championed by: Mandi from Smexy Books | @smexybooks

“Mercy,” said my mother thoughtfully, “you never told me your werewolf neighbor was quite that hot.”

Why can’t we all have a hottie neighbor? One that is not only a security specialist but one that would literally eat anyone who annoyed you.

“Sorry to disappoint you,” Adam told Kelly in silky tones. “But I prefer rabbits. Humans taste like pork.” And then he smiled. Kelly took an involuntary step backward.

*dreamy sigh*

Adam Hauptman is not only a smart businessman, but also an alpha werewolf commanding a pack of shifters that bow down to him on a daily basis. He is an alpha extraordinaire! This is the “Alpha Showdown.” I’m not even sure I need to give anymore evidence to make Adam the clear champion. But if I must…

I think what makes Adam stand out against all the other weasly wannabe alphas *smirks* is that he is a well-rounded alpha. He not only has the strength to fight off any enemy and to fight those in his pack that challenge him, but he has the smarts. He is extremely intelligent which ladies…we can all admit is a very sexy trait. He is cunning and doesn’t have to waste his energy unnecessarily.

So we know Adam is smart and fierce. But how does his alpha tendencies relate to his mate? Perfectly of course.

“I like her just the way she is, Bran.” And he meant it, greasy overalls, broken fingernails, and all.”

Is there anything better? While his protective streak runs deep with Mercy, he respects her for who she is. And that right there is the key to everything.

Intelligent. Dominant. Respectful. Gorgeous. Ladies and gents. We have a winner.

First Grave on the Right by Darynda JonesReyes Farrow

You know him from: The Charley Davidson Series by Darynda Jones
First appearance is: First Grave on the Right (VBC review)
Supernatural Status: The Son of Satan

Championed by: Jo from Vampire Book Club | @Jo_VBC

I see a lot of vampires, some weres and even a dragon in this year’s Alpha Showdown… but only one son of Satan. That’s right, VBC readers, make way for the one, the only Reyes Farrow.

Born from the heat of supernova, he grew to be the General of Hell, leading thousands of soldiers in countless wars… and he gave it all up for a girl. That’s right, Rey’aziel (he’s name literally means the Beautiful One!) said a big FU to his dad and became Hell’s public enemy No. 1 to spend a mortal lifetime with Charley. He didn’t just turn his back on Hell though, he decided to stand directly in the path of what his father wants most, fighting on the front line to keep Heaven and Earth safe.

Inhumanly fast, bordering on indestructible and with an immeasurable IQ, he can take just about anything on. He can fight in his corporeal and incorporeal forms AT THE SAME TIME (yep, he can be in two places at once). When corporeal he’ll use that lethal body to take you out, but when incorporeal he’ll severe your spine without so much as a mark. He’s literally badass enough to scare the dead.

But it isn’t just all about the fighting, oh no. He can be compassionate and kind, he loves with his whole heart and would die in a heartbeat for those he holds close. He’s always willing to make himself look like the bad guy (or in some cases to actually be the bad guy) in order to protect someone else. His Alpha energy may intimidate people on an instinctual level, but for those who truly know him, he inspires unwavering loyalty.

Oh and he does all this looking like tattooed sex on legs, rendering most women speechless when he walks in a room.

Ultimate Alpha = Reyes Farrow. ‘Nough said.

VOTE!

This poll will be open for 48 hours. Alpha with the most votes will advance.

  1. JennyJen says:

Reyes Smeyes! Who gives a crap if he’s the son of Satan? That doesn’t make him an alpha. It makes him a BETA. Satan is probably all up in that ass.

How is a BETA even in this showdown?

Go Adam! (Only because my beloved TRUE ALPHA Curran was robbed.)

    • Jillian B says:

Agreed about curran getting robbed! I teared up a little bit on his behalf…

    • Aly P says:

      LOL Jenny!

      Adam all the way!

    • Mariya says:

YES! Now I want ADAM to CRUSH Reyes BIG TIME!!!

    • Will says:

There sure are some very nasty people on here. Very sad for Ilona that her fans are so rude.

      • JennifersLot says:

I couldn’t agree more, Will. Wow. I feel bad for Ilona. Her fans are a reflection of her and this is just sad. At least Darynda’s fans never got nasty during that whole battle. Mudslinging is for children and politicians.

      • Alex says:

Agreed. They talk about cheating yet I’ve already seen various comments saying to vote for Adam just because Reyes beat Curran. How is that any better than what they’re protesting against? If Reyes woud’ve lost I wouldn’t have voted for Adam just to spite the Curran fans. It’s ridiculous.

      • Aly P says:

Now, now girls… If Curran had won and you knew we cheated what would you have done? Congratulate us?

      • Alex says:

Can’t blame one side when the other side was doing the same. I can honestly say that if Reyes had lost, I wouldn’t vote in this round cause I don’t know Adam. I’d just wait until the next round.

    • JennyJen says:

So, I’m rude for talking smack about Reyes being a beta (as is encouraged) and saying that Curran got robbed, but you’re not rude for calling me nasty and bringing it way down to a personal level? Are you all kidding?

If saying that I think Curran got robbed is the nastiest thing that someone can say about this showdown, then Ilona has nothing to be embarrassed about. Saying anyone or any team got robbed In a race, poll, competition, sports game, etc., is very common and pretty frikkin mild.

Meanwhile, Darynda fans are on here calling people nasty, ridiculous, children, sad, rude, mud slingers, and comparing us to politicians.

      Gotta love illogic.

      • Alkyoni says:

Got to agree with what Jenny says. And I really don’t think that anyone needs to feel sad about “Illona”. She’s an amazing author and she’s got people who love her books. I don’t even get how the fans can possibly reflect badly on her. The author is the author, Jen is her own person and so is every other fan. Even if you didn’t like the wording, Jen was making fun of a fictional character. You brought it to a personal level.

I also don’t get why “it’s ridiculous to vote for Adam just because Reyes beat Curran”. I voted for Adam because he’s the boy for me but even if he wasn’t, I’d still vote for him because I’d want him to beat Reyes. Like I root for the football team that plays against the one that kicked us out of the championship. What exactly is ridiculous about that?

      • JennyJen says:

Amen to that! And I’m not even saying I’m voting Adam to spite Reyes, though many are, as they are entitled to do. I actually like Adam, so I’d vote for him against Reyes or pedo Ryo, if it comes to that. Curran is my top choice, though. Always. Adam is my 2nd.

And look how easily we can express our opinions without having to resort to name-calling and insults. Ilona would be proud. >_<

      • Alex says:

@ Alkyoni – To me it’s ridiculous because this is supposed to be all in good fun. If you like Adam better than Reyes, vote for him. But don’t vote just because you didn’t like that Reyes won the last round. When my kids play sports, I teach them to congratulate the other team if they win. Not to hate them just because they won. It’s ridiculous to me that we sometimes don’t act like we want our kids to. And when you root for another team, you’re just cheering for them. You’re not voting against the other team and taking an active role in them losing. Not the same thing.

Make fun of the characters in this round all you want. Trash talk can be fun. But when accusations are thrown out there, you’re also insulting the other fans. What’s supposed to be a friendly competition gets taken up a notch and insults start flying from both parties because things get taken personally.
Stick to trash talking the current alphas – Adam and Reyes – it’s their competition after all, not Curran’s. If Adam wins, let it be because he’s the better Alpha, not because your Alpha didn’t win.

Of course it’s your choice to do what you want, but this would be a lot more fun without insults flying around, imo.

      • JennyJen says:

Then perhaps you should address your last comment to your fellow Reyes fans. They’re the only ones hurling insults and names like it’s nobody’s business.

Also, it’s not your place to police what people post here. I saw someone say that Adam smells like a wet dog. I just chuckled and moved on. You should learn to do the same. It would reduce your stress.

      • JennyJen says:

P.S. You’re right in that this would be a lot more fun if people weren’t calling me nasty, sad, rude, a child, etc.

      • Alex says:

@ JennyJen – I’m not policing anyone. You can do what you want, when you want to. I made a comment on how I found it ridiculous to say the other team cheated and then vote for Adam just so that Reyes doesn’t win. I responded to Alkyoni because she specifically addressed what I said. I responded why I found it ridiculous.

If you notice, I said that insults were flying from BOTH parties, I wasn’t just accusing Curran fans or you specifically.

As mentioned, if the trash talk would stay on the characters there wouldn’t be a problem. But when the Reyes fans are accused of only winning because they cheated, they’ll take it personally. You’re not the only one being insulted.

I laughed also when you said he was a BETA and had Satan up his ass. But I didn’t comment on how I thought you were wrong. I moved on from your trash talk of the character. I commented in response to someone else.

      • JennyJen says:

You commented in response to someone who called Ilona fans sad, children, and akin to politicians. You said “Agreed.”

It’s all there to plainly see and if your comment is in general, kindly stop posting it under MY original comment. Go post your own comment to the masses. Thanks.

      • Alex says:

My first comment was in reply to Will’s comment where he said there were some rude fans. I agreed with that because I think it’s rude to insult other fans by calling them cheaters when your guy doesn’t win. If my comment was placed under the one saying you were a child, blame the site that put it there, not me.

My other comment was to address Alkyoni’s direct question to my comment. I replied to her and clearly stated it with @ Alkyoni. You choose to respond to my comment to her. Which is why I continue to comment on YOUR comment line, you’re directing your comments at me.

      • JennyJen says:

Ah, yes. I see that now. You agreed with Will’s comment that called me a nasty person and that called an entire fan base rude. Lovely. Good day.

      • Alkyoni says:

Alex, that’s a wonderful way to raise your kids, but I don’t see what it has to do with this case. Your kids congratulate other REAL kids when they lose and perhaps they’d do so even if they suspect that the other team was cheating. And that is great but it just doesn’t apply here. You even use the word “hate” as if we go around beating people. And rooting for a sports team isn’t as serious business as in voting for the fictional Urban Fantasy characters of the Alpha Showdown? Rooting for a team on the field actually affects the game play in many ways. But even if that wasn’t the case, we are not voting for some country to enter the EU here. If someone wants to vote for Adam because they don’t like names that begin with the letter R, they have every right to do so and it’s nobody’s business why they did it. Like, if you don’t like it because it’s not the adult thing to do, that’s your business.

And as for the fact that you find it ridiculous that We sometimes don’t act like We want Our kids to, I think it’s more like: You find it ridiculous that We don’t act like You want Your kids to. I’d have no problem with my kids voting for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles if the Smurfs beat Candy Candy in the Cartoon Showdown. If that is a reason to be called childish, so be it.

  2. Stephanie C says:

Oooohhh Curran….I can’t believe Reyes won!!!!
    Between Adam and Reyes hmmmmmmmm…….

  3. rebecca baker says:

    I wanted curran

  4. Amy M says:

I have to go with Adam on this one.

  5. Raeven Hawkes says:

Reyes!!!! After all, don’t wolves kinda smell when they get wet?????

  6. Meagan says:

Not only do I think Reyes would win against Adam, but more importantly Reyes is the only one of the two with a shot against Ryodan.

  7. Karin Anderson says:

I’m sorry, Darynda! I love you, but Adam was my original book boyfriend. I compare all others to him.

  8. Teti says:

Still sad that Reyes Beat Curran. but now I’m thinking who would i rather see go up against Ryodan, I don’t want cutie Adam getting hurt. go Reyes! have fun with Ryodan!

  9. LisaH says:

    <3 Reyes!

  10. Michelle Bledsoe says:

Adam is and always be my favorite. Aside from Curran that is.

  11. Krista says:

Adam. Simply because of his scenes in Silver Borne 🙂

  12. Teresa says:

    Love Adam!

  13. christian says:

Reyes….period. Plus, the grim reaper and the son of satan…a bit more ALPHA than a were.

  14. Margarita says:

Reyes is the only one who could face Ryo, granted, he’ll loose, but he stands a better chance than a wolf

  15. jo says:

Reyes all the way. He is one of the best characters out there.

  16. Sara says:

Gotta go with Adam. I haven’t read Darynda Jones and Reyes beat Curran last round, so Adam has to take Reyes down.

Props to Darynda’s fans for taking on the rabid Ilona Andrews fans. Knowing her fan base is as die-hard and loyal as the Ilona fans makes me more eager to read her book.

  17. Nicole says:

I have to go with Adam, I love him! Though my all-time favorite is Curran (but he’s out *tears*). Go Adam!!

  18. Nicole says:

I have to add.. I haven’t read Darynda’s books, but after Reyes beat my Curran yesterday, I will definitely give a shot at that series, he must be very good to have such die-hard fans as to defeat my lion!

  19. dr susanj says:

Sorry if this posts twice. I was having nightmares about having to choose between Curran and Adam. I think people are forgetting that there is a difference between an alpha male and an Alpha. Adam is an Alpha- go Adam!

    • Athena W says:

Ha! Curran makes people pee when he gives his alpha stare! Pee! He is alpha over more than 500 shifters, all bloodthirsty and capable of going lupe at any moment. Curran is ALPHA! He’s killed a god for goodness sake. Sigh. Still for this round Adam

  20. Candie says:

Reyes all the way! For those of you that haven’t read the Charley Davidson series, you really should! Then you would understand why Reyes should win! 🙂

  21. michelle says:

Oh god i love them both Alpha males to the bone but i will give it to Reyes because Reyes don’t play nor back from anyone.

  22. Valery says:

For me, an Alpha isn’t just the one who’ll win in a fight, since any tough guy might do that; he’s a protector too, and nobody in this showdown cares more for his people than Adam.

    • Meagan says:

For sure Reyes is a protector. He’s been protecting Charley all her life, going to great lengths to ensure her safety. His pack is just a lot smaller than Adam’s. 🙂

  23. Dana B says:

    Adam!

  24. Aimee says:

    Another tough choice!

  25. joanne says:

Some of Adam’s scenes give me the shivers with how dominating he is. It’s Adam all the way!

  26. Conalu says:

Reyes.. No question for me on this one.. Even in the Mercy world I’d take Charles over Adam any day!!! 🙂

  27. Mistfox says:

Adam, because nothing says “I’m sorry” like a dead bunny. 😀

  28. Verena says:

    Ray’ziel all the way!!!

There are a lot of wolfs out there, but there is only one Son of Satan!!!

    GO REYES kick some ass

  29. Yackie says:

No doubt about it, my vote is for Reyes! And I agree with other’s comments that he’s the only one that stands a chance against Ryodan.

  30. Paige says:

“Before you came around, I had no idea a man could make a girl scream like that. Reyes seems very talented.” – enough said – Reyes FTW!

  31. Aure says:

This time I vote for Reyes 🙂 I like you dude 😀

  32. Vikki @ V's Book Life says:

Reyes wins this for me 🙂

  33. Alex says:

Reyes all the way! He was General to thousands of soldiers in Hell. Told his father (Satan himself) to go F himself and did what he wanted and what he thought was right. He can sever your spinal cord before you know he’s even in the room. And has been protecting Charley since the moment she was born. Not to mention he’s incredibly HOT! If that’s not Alpha I don’t know what is!

  34. Michelle says:

    Adam!

  35. Brittany B says:

    Adam gets my vote

  36. Ames says:

Adam was great in the earlier books. Then he hooked up with Mercy and got boring like Bones. I think Barrons, Curran, and Eric Northman are probably the only alphas that still held appeal after they were off the market. Reyes still annoys me (he’s too deceitful IMO) but boy are those shower scenes hot!

  37. mk says:

    Come on Reyes!

  38. Carol Gilreath says:

    Adam all the way!

  39. Christina says:

Wow…some of these comments are a little out of hand LoL!! I do have to say though, the comments calling Reyes a Beta CLEARLY haven’t read the books or know anything about them. He defied & turned his back on his father so he could be with Charley. If you think a werewolf is more Alpha then the son of satan that defies his father, I’m not sure what we’re voting for because there is nothing more alpha than someone fighting against satan & all the demons of hell for the one he loves. REYES BABY!!

  40. Barbara Elness says:

Love Adam, had to vote for him. 😀

  41. Jennifer Love says:

Although I really like Adam, Reyes is way tougher. He is the son of Satan. And if I don’t vote for him, Darynda might not speak to me again!

  42. Michelle says:

Went with Adam on this one. Now I might have had a problem if it was Bran v Curran. I love Curran but Bran has been around a long time.

  43. Arlene Lewis says:

Adam is ALPHA! That’s right all CAPS! 2013 is his!

  44. KateL. says:

Reyes might be an alpha-male, but he is no ALPHA!

  45. BookLady says:

    I vote for Reyes!

  46. Julie says:

I love all the alphas in this Alpha Showdown. I want to Thank the organizers of this event for all the hardwork in putting it together and inviting us all to not only vote for our favorites but to also read and learn about new series and authors that we might not have tried out yet. I have throughly enjoyed the bragging bloggers descriptions of each Alpha. Great job everyone

Lets get back to the fun!

P.S. I did think it was going to come down to Ryodan and Curran but a Reyes VS Ryodan battle would be great also – hard to choose…… Both are sooooo ALPHA!!!!!!!!

  47. Trilliumgrl says:

I am going with Adam. Why? Because he is definitely a man who knows how to be in charge. Part of that is knowing when to give in to his better half and how to delegate.

  48. VernaB says:

NO NO NO!!! We are all lovers of fiction, alphas and our favorite writers. We are all in this together. I love them AAAAAALLL! Reyes, Curran, Adam, Ryodan… Calling all alphas, go forth and save the world! Again!

  49. Cali says:

Gotta love Adam– I was rooting for him all the way back in Moon Called. I also think he wins at Alpha because despite the amazing Alpha-y powers and magics he possesses, he knows how to control and yank it back when needed. And he doesn’t try to hold his heroine back from fighting(although he wants to– he really wants to sometimes) but rather supports and stands by her all the way. How many Alpha heroes out there don’t try to hold their love interests down?

  50. Vicky N. says:

    ADAM!
