It’s officially time for Alpha Showdown 2013! You made your nominations and we have 16 of the most badass, alpha characters from urban fantasy and paranormal romance novels locked into the bracket. Only one will be named champion and today’s first bout is sure to end in a knockout.
Round six puts vampire against vampire. The Viking vampire from Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series is known to be vicious when it comes to protecting what’s his, but Qhuinn from J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood is a trained vampire warrior. Who will come out on top? You decide.

Eric Northman, the Sheriff of Area 5, is the oldest, sexiest, and most powerful vampire in the great state of Louisiana, and he perfectly personifies all that we expect and long for in our alpha males. Don’t be fooled by his sexy, fanged smile either. He is also a phenomenal fighter! Lethal with both a sword and his fangs. He relishes a good fight. Is it wrong to swoon when this Viking lets loose his battle cry? Or sigh when he swings that giant sword in the midst of battle with the grace of a dancer? Honestly, we don’t care!
Who can resist this Viking’s teasing, his playfulness, his charm, his sense of humor, and his almost infectious passion for life and all its wonders. When this Alpha beckons, we answer. A flash of those fangs, and that smile, and we yield to him faster than Sookie can say, “Yikes. Yahoo. Yum.”

I love Eric. I really do. He’s old, strong, powerful, and sexy as hell. But I have to give this round to Qhuinn. He might be younger and more impulsive but he is so brave and loving and kind hearted. He would give his life to protect those he cares about. I just love him to no end.
Now if Qhuinn were up against Alexander Skarsgard I’d probably be singing a different tune. LOL.

As much as I love Qhuinn…my vote will ALWAYS be for the striking Viking and sexy vampire, Eric Northman! 🙂 Besides, I think this will be the last year he will be in this tournament. 🙁

Eric’s not only not angsty, he’s funny. C’mon, the brooding type is SO 19th century. And personally, I like that he’s selfish. Never any question on what he’s after.
While Eric captured my attention early on in the Sookie series, he very quickly lost his appeal. He’s too selfish. While Qhuinn has had a lot of problems, he’s worked through them and became a better man. Qhuinn has more depth of character in his 30-something years than Eric has in centuries. Eric’s an ass.

Although I love Eric pre book #9, there really is no contest. Quhinn is not only a bad ass, but truly a good person. He always puts his brothers before himself, like a true alpha male should. Definitely giving Quhinn my vote here!!

Though Lover at Last was not my fave BDB book (I really wanted more than I got), Quinn is my second favorite character in the series. So Quinn wins this set.
Quinn, got to love him from BDB, its a brotherhood so when you mess with Quinn you mess with them all.

This one was a freakin hard one! LOVE Eric, but what a jerk in DEA…Although Quinn is a brother and an super hott one at that, he needs to be able to step up and communicate…which granted he finally did but HELLO! I know silly draw backs when you are faced with either man!
