Still trying to decide if you’ll join us for this month’s group read of The Iron King? Watch the book’s teaser trailer below or read our review.
With so many pop culture references floating around out there, it can be hard not to draw connections between the books we’re reading and movies, TV shows or novels we’ve experienced beforehand. While I didn’t pick up on it while reading The Iron King, I found myself mentioning a plot similarity to the David Bowie flick Labyrinth each time I explained the book aloud. Are they the same story? No, of course not, but a little brother is kidnapped by a faerie king in both.
What about you? Any novels that immediately make you think of some just-barely-related movie?
Update: We discovered a few of you were too young (or not into Jim Henson, David Bowie or George Lucas enough) to get the Labyrinth reference. Crazy, I know. So, get a glimpse of David Bowie as the goblin king, “the babe with the power” and just “Dance Magic Dance” with this clip:
That’s so funny that you posted this, The Labyrinth is exactly what I thought of as soon as Ethan went missing! I was just waiting for David Bowie to pop up singing with his feathered hair:)
