I need your help, readers. You see my good friend Megan S. from Stellar Four thinks supernatural types would not make good boyfriends. I’m not saying there aren’t issues to overcome in having a relationship with a vampire or werewolf or faerie (that whole can’t lie thing is a double-edged sword). However, I think the good outweighs the bad.
When I look to my list of book boyfriends—when they’re fictional, you’re allowed to have more than one—I see the benefits. The experience that comes with being immortal, the confidence, the self-awareness and, you know, the cool supernatural abilities are a mega bonus.
I already know that supes make damn fine boyfriends and husbands (Bones, anyone?), but is there a type of supernatural that makes the best boyfriend material? Shifters can be incredibly loyal, or incredibly independent. Vampires have the daylight limitation, as Sookie Stackhouse would lament, but then there are fangs FTW. Fairies definitely bring the regal element, but that’s got more baggage than we might want to touch.
So, which will it be VBC readers? Which supes make the best boyfriends? And, more importantly, which book characters top your list of book boyfriends?
My heart will always belong to Jericho Barrons, even though we still aren’t sure exactly what he is!
*swoon* Yes, Barrons FTW.
Shifters. I am ALL ABOUT the shifters. Specifically, Drew from the Psy-Changling series. He’s playful, hot (VERY hot), sweet, wicked smart, and fiercely loyal. And he didn’t give up on Indy, no matter how many times she tried to push him away. So…perfect. He is the perfect man. He stole her phone and recorded himself howling her name as her ringtone!
Shifters definitely top the list of my book boyfriends – particularly Adam from the Mercy Thompson series and Curran from Kate Daniels, but I also have a thing for Doyle from the Merry Gentry series.
Shifters. Specifically, Dyson.
Duh. 😉
Hale’s growing on me, but, yes, always love Dyson.
Yes yes…anyone in the BDB would be PERRRFECT!! 🙂 Barrons, yes please!
I call dibs on Zsadist. 😉
I’ll take Barrons with a side of John Mathew please!
Lol, yes Barrons! Or I would even settle for anyone of the nine.
My heart will always belong to vamps! I like werewolves, but the dominance power plays get tedious after a while.
Why are we forgetting the angels and demons and gargoyles and demi gods? 😀
Heh. Care to suggest specific book boyfriends? (I can think of more than a few demons and demigods, for sure!)
I have always loved shifters but Angels are pretty awesome too. Still, you gotta love Curran.
Mmmmmmm, Barrons. Yes. Absolutely. Curran also awesome except that I would have been killed 50 times over during that whole alpha challenge thing Kate had to do, sooo, not sure. Hey Harry Dresden is sexy and super-chivalrous, do wizards count? I run a little anemic so have to pass on vamps 😀
Wizards totally count!
Love shifters, vamps, Fae, gargoyles, angels, etc. The only boyfriend I would never want is a zombie! Just can’t get into the zombie stories.
Shifters, so long as they aren’t the Weres from the Jane Yellowrock series. It would seriously suck to have a grindylow kill your BF for having sex with you.
Wow, difficult question. Barrons hands down, though it does not answer the question because nobody knows what he is. As for vamps, Bones would be my choice (provide that Cat is willing to share). Werewolves, yess, It would be MacRieve (from the IAD series). And that would be only for starters. My list of supernatural boyfriends is endless. I am a greedy one!
Vishous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood is my favorite. He’d be a difficult boyfriend; communication isn’t his strong suit. But he is strong, loyal, sexy – well, let’s call it like it is – he’s really kinky, and he has such unique gifts. Being able to heal with his touch is wonderful; being able to see into the future, not so much. But he lives with them, and with his horrific past, which scarred him in more ways than one. I like characters who aren’t all black or all white and who struggle to overcome obstacles, including their own selves.
Speaking of that, I must also give a shout out to Damon Salvatore of The Vampire Diaries, who was a fictional character before he became a character on TV. That darkness inside him makes me want to kiss him and make it all better. Actually, I’d want to kiss him anyway!
Since someone brought up angels, have to go with Raphael from the Guild Hunters!
Nom! Er, I mean, good pick. 😉
Yeah but I wouldn’t mind giving Illium a go!
Ok, my fave boyfriends come from my fave series (not a coincidence me thinks!) and they would be Curran, Rourke (Jessica McClain), Lon (Cady Bell), Logan (Discord Jones) and My all out favourite, vampire Gio from Elizabeth Hunters Elemental Mysteries. So I have there 3 shifters, all cats, 1 demon and 1 vampire. All round I think I’ll have to go with cat shifters, but it’s a very close call!
I like warm bodies best, but here are my choices….
Mages: Alex Verus
Dragons: Dragos (Elder Races)
Angels: Illium aka Bluebell
Shifters: Alex Warin (Sentinels of New Orleans)
Vampires: Ian (Night Huntress)
Fae: Prince Taliver (Abby Sinclair)
Unknown Species: Ryodan
Other World Humans: Cal MacDonnell (Awakenings) and Eddie LaCrosse
i just discovered this website so i’m a first timer, spent yesterday about 3 hours on your reviews…
gettting back on point i love a good contemporary, historical, suspenful romance but paranormal rom definitely definitely owns my heart..i love rhage, bowen macrieve, daemon black, slade, acheron and so on..you can’t beat a gorgeous immortal that only has eyes for you <3
Thinking about this I would have to say shifters for sure. My favorite being Curran from Kate Daniels. There’s just something I like about the whole alpha male thing that is characteristic of most shifters if written well.
I love all of the above…
It’s just to difficult to limit my choices cause I love all things Paranormal…
A couple series that I’m addicted to in addition to the ones mentioned already??? Joey W. Hill’s Vampire Queen series and her Daughters of Adrianne series. Vampires, Werewolves, Shifters and Angels…All the books are off the charts.
Fae (I like them with pointed ears like elves) and werewolves (dark, tall, and growling). And of course Barrons. I mean, does it really matter what he is? He’s Barrons, ‘nough said;)
