Update: Wrath remains the king! He won this round of the Showdown and will advance.
Wrath and Jane Yellowrock are Alpha Showdown veterans. How will the fare in battle this year? That’s up to you.
Will it be the King or the one her own author calls the Apex Alpha?
We’ve lined up great bloggers to explain why each alpha deserves to advance. Read the pitches, and then make the call.
You know him/her from: The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward
First appeared in: Dark Lover (VBC Review | Amazon)
Supernatural status: Vampire
Championed by: Suzanne @ Under the Covers Book Blog
You know that saying, ‘I could take you out blindfolded’, well, in Wrath’s case that isn’t just an egotistical boast. It’s a fact of life, Wrath is known as the Blind King for good reason. But don’t let his lack of sight fool you, not unless you want to end up with your throat torn out or a fatal case of, ‘Holy Shit, is that a dagger sticking out my heart?’ The King is fierce.
So you want an alpha? Well Wrath is over six and a half feet, black-haired, muscle bound killer ready to just steamroll you and take that title and whatever else the fuck he wants. You can throw anyone at Wrath, they will just bounce back off bloody and limping…if they aren’t shredded to pieces around his big ass shitkickers.
Lets face it guys, the Blind King ain’t just an alpha, he is THE alpha and the King of a whole race, including a badass group of muthas who bow to no one but him. As for Wrath he bows to no one.
You know her from: The Jane Yellowrock Series by Faith Hunter
First appeared in: Skinwalker (VBC Review | Amazon)
Supernatural status: Skinwalker
Championed by: Laura – Little Read Riding Hood (Website | Facebook | Twitter)
Jane Yellowrock, Skinwalker by nature, something more by accident, is not by any means a “delicate flower.” Standing at 6 feet tall, with amber eyes and hip-length jet black hair, usually in a braid, she cuts an imposing figure in her hunting leather and silver plated chain mail, before you even know she is something other, something more. Using her unique set of skills, she gets her start in life hunting and killing vampires. Yes, you read that right, that is her FIRST JOB. So taking on Wrath, Brother or not, will be like a walk in the park. Plus, he is blind. Not that I don’t think he will put up a brilliant fight, but in the end she is still faster, more clever, and has many more tools at her disposal. Don’t believe me? Well I went straight to the source, her author, who knows Jane better than anyone, to help you understand why she is an Alpha.
How many times has Jane kicked your ass?
Every. Single. Book. She is willful and destructive and protective of her friends and those she claims as family. She thinks violence is always the first method of choice in dealing with problems. She has no taste in clothes. Her taste in men is suspect. (Until BROKEN SOUL.) And will not cuss, even when something should be said. Just …Drives me nuts.
We all know Jane is powerful – but I think being an Alpha is more than physical strength. How has she out-smarted her opponents in the past?
Jane is always learning, watching her opponents, and deducing their weaknesses. She uses those weaknesses against her opponents, especially Leo Pellissier, the master of the city, who believes he has a vamp-version of the Devine Right of Kings. Jane has forced him into the modern world with a mixture of brains, moxie, and snark.
She also protects her family—not pack, Jane is two-souled, and her second soul is a mountain lion. Mountain lions don’t do pack, except for their female kits, which sometimes hang around for years. Of course, now, Jane has an all-male family—the Younger brothers—and that has changed her perspective on how to protect, and how to be protected.
As an Alpha, is there anything Jane wouldn’t do to protect those she considers ‘hers’?
Jane has a problem with morals and ethics. As a child she was in training to be a Cherokee War Woman, with all the violence and judgment that once sometimes required. Then, a hundred+ years later, she was raised in a Christian children’s home, where she was expected to put violence away and solve personal problems with forgiveness and kindness. So she has always been in a moral and ethical limbo, not sure which parts of her previous life to draw upon.
Recently she was absolutely certain she would never use black magic items or commit murder for any reason. Then people she loved got into trouble, and she is being pulled in many different directions. I have no idea what will happen!
Would Jane ever back down from a fight? What if she knew she would lose?
Of course she’d back down. Jane has walked away from fights in the past, fights where winning and losing both meant making worse problems. The fight she would never back down from, is on where other people would be hurt. She would fight to the death, even knowing she would die, to save others.
What is one quality Jane has that makes Jane the top of the Alpha Showdown?
Jane has her Beast, the mountain lion soul that shares her power and strength and abilities to help Jane defeat that which is evil. Beast sets Jane apart, making her the Apex Alpha.
WINNER – WRATH
Only votes submitted via the Rafflecopter form below will be counted. This means your vote is tied to your email address. It also means we’re giving away something awesome.
For Round 3 we’re giving away a $15 gift card to either Amazon or The Book Depository. (Meaning this is open internationally, provided The Book Depository ships to your location.)

Wrath! Jane is great, but come on, Wrath is the KING!
Go Jane! Wrath got his ass kicked by a girl once before – remember Payne?
Hi, question please, this year we won’t be able to see how are the votes doing until the poll is closed?
P.S.: The King all the way! 🙂
Unfortunately, that’s the case. We wanted a way to better streamline votes and the chance to giveaway books. As a part of that, we lost the ability to show real-time results.
I am periodically tweeting the current results, if that helps. You can find me @ChelseaVBC on Twitter.
Wrath.
Haven’t read either. Will be starting soon! 😉 I’m voting for girlpower, Jane!
