The battles have been close — with plenty of smack talk in the comments and on Twitter — but we’ve finally reached the semifinals of the Alpha Showdown 2012. It’s another vampire-on-vampire battle with Jeaniene Frost’s Bones taking on Nalini Singh’s Dmitri.
Bones has already taken out witch Rachel Morgan and werewolf Charles Cornick. How will he handle fighting another vampire?
Dmitri took out cutthroat assassin Gin Blanco and Enemy of Old vampire Lothaire. Is he ready for another strong vampire contender?
Who gets staked? Who will move on to the final battle of the Alpha Showdown?

Bones has gone head to head with a voodoo queen, ghosts, government agencies, a scary mother-in-law and the most-lauded literary vampire of all time, all to stand up for his woman and his people. Arguably, the most powerful vampire on the planet chose to share power with him. He’s looked death in the face and came out on the other side stronger. If you want the definitive Alpha, you need to look no further than Bones.
You want examples? Fine, take a seat and lets discuss what happens when you combine lethal precision, deadly fangs and undead sex drive to spare. Cat was unfortunate enough to come up against a vampire who had a heart literally in the wrong place. As the result of a staking gone wrong, Bones was about to lose Cat. He beheaded that vampire with the hood of a car. Yeah, that’s right, he slung a car hood with piercing accuracy.
Need more? He ripped the limb off a ghoul and, to add insult to injury, beat the ghoul with his own arm. I don’t know about you, but to bitch slap someone around with their own arm seems pretty badass to me. Not only that, but Bones appears to now have the ability to telekinetically whoop ass. That’s right, brawn and brains. He’s taken a bullet to the head, been faced death, had his mind taken over and fought with demons, all to come out better, stronger and faster on the other side.
Let’s not forget that nobody can rock chain mail like Bones.
When he’s not shagging Cat senseless or traveling the world keeping wayward vamps in line, he hangs with Mencheres, Spade, Ian and, on the rare occasion, Vlad. His line pays their tithes willingly and wet themselves at the very mention of his name. Why? Because he’s Bones. And he’s the ultimate Alpha.

Dmitri. His name rolls off your tongue dark and delicious. His tongue is extremely skilled in other matters tongues are used for. But I digress. In this ‘Alpha Showdown’ competition, he is the biggest, baddest, and most tortured of them all. He uses his deep rooted pain, to smack down the other so-called alphas with a flick of his finger.
He is 1,000 years old and the leader of Archangel Raphael’s security team, which means he is not only bad ass, but very trustworthy as well. Hey Gin Blanco – how old are you? That’s right – you just go back into that kitchen and make more pies.
He oozes sex appeal, literally. His aroma of chocolate and champagne makes every woman think lusty thoughts. He not only has brutal strength when fighting an enemy, but a brutal wickedness when seducing a lady.
“I’m fairly certain you’re not a nice man at all.”
His answer was a slow smile that whispered of silk sheets, erotic whispers, and sweat-damp skin. The unhidden intent of it had her heart slamming hard against her ribs. “No,” she said, voice raw.
“A challenge.” He wasn’t touching her and yet she felt caressed by a thousand ropes of fur, soft and lush and unmistakably sexual. “I accept.”
Dmitri will kill all of your enemies then make nasty, dirty love to you all while smelling like chocolate and champagne. Ladies and gents… we have our winner.

I think that’s really strange too, Susan. Just 4 or 5 people commented that voted on Dmitri, while more than 26 comments are about Bones. And they’re really close. How? Something is going on.
I don’t think anything wonky is up. I think more regular readers of VBC are Bones fans — we’ve covered much more Night Huntress and have interviewed Jeaniene here. May just be that Bones’ fans are more comfortable being vocal here. I’ll give Dmitri’s team a nudge on Twitter, though, and suggest they bring it to the comments section. 😉
I have a lot of friends who are voting but not commenting, so i say it’s not strange at all. It’s just that the Bones lovers want to shout out to everyone they supported him, while Dmitri’s team is sneaking up on them. 🙂

Just finished Archangel’s Blade last night – all I can say is WOW, but I still had to vote for Bones. He is and always will be THE MAN.

I was so doubtful that I could love Dmitri, but Archangel’s Blade rocked my world. Dmitri is just so yummy, firece, awesome.
That said, he is no Bones.
*sigh* Bones. My love, my book husband, Bones. There is no other Bones and there will never be another like Bones. He is just badass, sexy, confident, amazing. THE alpha.
