Poll: YA love interests who leave you wishing you were 17 again

logo

Alex Pettyfer / Jace Wayland?Over the last two weeks, those who entered our Nightshade giveaway* told us which love interest from a young adult novel tops their list. We expected Vampire Academy’s resident Russian hottie Dimitri Belikov to top out (he did), but almost always his name was in the same breath as that snarky Shadowhunter Jace Wayland from The Mortal Instruments series.

On a side note, we’re with everyone else in lobbying for Alex Pettyfer to play Jace in the forthcoming City of Bones (TMI #1) movie. Bells and I confirmed we don’t have to feel like dirty old ladies for swooning for Pettyfer, so enjoy the eye candy.

That, however, got us thinking. When we looked at all the entries, we knew more of you would like to weigh in. And plenty of the comments told us you — like the VBC — don’t mind putting yourselves in teenage shoes to swoon over the likes of Dimitri, Jace, Ash, Edward and Peeta. (Lots of love for the boy with the bread.)

So, let’s make it a poll. The top five from the contest entry comments have been put in the poll below — but you are welcome to write in your own suggestions, just be sure to leave a comment with your write-in, too.

We’ll also say we expect some new YA swoon-worthy boys in 2011. We can promise you’ll get a HBWS in Angelfire’s Will and a surprise love interest in Unearthly.

*Thanks to all who entered the Nightshade giveaway. Our winner, Linda, has already claimed her prize. More good giveaways on the horizon. We promise.

  2. Haylie says:

Honestly, as much as I LOOOOVVVEEE Dimitri and Jace, I voted for Peeta! He’s such a sweetie! Omg, I need a guy like him!

But I still love my hot dhampirs and Shaddowhunters!!

  3. lovelygirl says:

    dimitri is just amazing <3

  4. nuala says:

    Snarky Jace allll the way!!!

  5. emma says:

i love jace just as much as peeta but peeta is not a hero the whole story is so good based on the fact the katniss is the hero , while jace is a hero

  6. Jane says:

JACE IS THE BEST HERO! HE IS JUST AMAZING (L)

  9. ShadowHunter says:

    .___.
    JACE, OF COURSE!! <3

  10. Esro says:

    DIMITRI FTW!
I love him too much <33

  11. SDJ says:

Jace Jace Jace Jace Jace Jace Jace. We don’t even need pics of Jace, he is hot without even a DESCRIPTION. Like Isabelle said- the fact that he’s always rude is what makes him so damn sexy! And the best part about that snarkyness is he uses it like an armor. Hot guys? Nice. Hot guys trying to hide powerful emotions? HELL YEAH!

  12. this is a shit poll says:

Dimitri is a fucking pedophile yet you are all voting for him because he’s “sexy”? He isn’t hot, he is a frigid prick who fantasizes about being a cowboy while creeping on underage goldiggers. Victor Dashkov turned me on more than he ever did.

And Richelle Mead is a vote-whore.

    • KyK says:

Yeah, Victor Dashkov is definitely much more sexy than Dimitri… and poor Rose, she was such a young, pure and inoccent girl before meeting Dimitri -___-

      • this is a shit poll says:

Everyone is sexier than Dimitri. And it’s common knowledge that Rose is actually a famous dhampir pornstar.

    • Vanity says:

      Like trolling, much?

I know they say opinions are like assholes; everyone has one, but your’s pretty much sinks.

  13. Eleniita18 says:

    JAAACE!!! 4ever. I love him.
I hope Alex Pettyfer will be Jace in the movie

  14. Alexis says:

    Bahaha Dimitri

  15. Elizabeth says:

    Dimitri is a godess! 🙂

  16. Sammie Liegh says:

    I love Dimitri! 🙂

  17. Becca says:

Victor Dashkov is not better than Dimitri!

  18. Lena says:

    Dimitri is my god !!!

  19. Becca says:

    I agree with Lena 100%

  20. Vanity says:

Dimitri all the way. <3 He makes me think of Angel from Buffy. Although Jace isn't too bad himself. I love sarcasm, and snark but I think the brooding, tortured and troubled kind is more my type.

    • Becca says:

Vanity i agree Dimitri is so awesome!and he does remind me of Angle know that i think about it! But question im going to read The Mortal Instruments series this weekend cant wait! Is it really good?

      • Chelsea says:

Trust me you won’t be disappointed. I read a lot of reviews before reading this book, and was shocked after I read the books, that so many people hated the books. I will warn you though if your not into the whole twisting of a story in one sentence, then you’ll hate it. Oh and before I forget, don’t judge the books, until you’ve read the first 3. You can’t fully understand them until you read them. Just some random pointers about the books.

      • Vanity says:

I literally just finished The Mortal Instrument series a couple days a go because of this poll. I suppose a lot of people had been telling me to read it as well, but I never remembered until I saw the books on display at my local Walmart…. Let me tell you. I’m seriously a huge YA fan, and gobble up series like a cookie monster with chocolate chip cookies.. This series was AMAZING. The writing is a little juvenile compared to Vampire Academy, but I suspect that is because the ages they are aiming for are lower that VA, but what it lacks in literacy maturity it makes up for in wonderful humor, and plenty of biting sarcasm. I would recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy YA books and doesn’t mind a little unconventional plots

  21. Ciara says:

NO! JACE ALL THE WAY! I WISH I HAD A HOTTIE LIKE JACE!

  22. Love all the comments on this post, but please remember to be respectful of one another. You’re allowed to disagree, you’re allowed to say why you don’t like a character and others are allowed to hate it. But you can’t make personal attacks. Comments that just disparage others for having different opinions — particularly those using epithets will be edited or deleted. Argue all you want, but don’t make it personal please.

    • Vanity says:

My apologies, I didn’t mean to make it seem like a personal attack. I support people’s opinions, and welcome when they differ from mine…but… there is a fine line between expressing a difference of opinion, and trolling. Trolling is something I can usually ignore, but not when such rude and venomous words are said in a place where the author is known to possibly visit. Someone poured the heart and soul in creating that character, and regardless of how many people praise, or enjoy him or her anyone would be sadden by such an attack on their work

  23. Chelsea says:

I loved the Hunger Games, but out of the guy’s listed there I’m going with JACE! He’s hot as hell! People hate and love him all at the same time. He’s a lost, twisted, tortured soul, that falls for a girl, who has a soft kind heart. How do you not LOVE him!?

  24. Becca says:

Thanks Chelsea and Vanity!!! i cant wait im getting the first one in the series tomorrow XD

  25. Miss Owl says:

holy god! when reading the mortal instrument series, it literally took over my life! if you havent read these books, you need to!! They are AMAZING!! (obsessive, i know..) 🙂

    • Ginya says:

i completely understand. I’m counting down the days until City of fallen angels comes out, and re-reading the entire series in preparation. did you hear that the Barnes and Noble edition of CoFA will have the complete letter from jace to clary that was mentioned near the end of City of Glass? they’re going to make it look like a real letter and everything! *spazzes out, has to go breath into a paper bag* i <3 books!

  26. Becca says:

Miss Owl I started reading them today and OMG they are the best books ever!!!!!!! i cant stop reading! 🙂

    • Ginya says:

becca, i envy you your ability to read the mortal instrument series for the first time! i completely ruined them for myself the first time i read them by reading the third one before the second one. oh, foolish me! be sure not to repeat my mistake.

  27. Tara says:

    I could barely decide!
    Jace or Peeta?
The boy with the bread or the man with a knife.
    OH whatever, JACE FTW!
And If I wanted to put other I would Put Patch From Hush, Hush.
    Love.<3

  28. vega says:

Jace aaalll the way ! How can you compare others to HIM???

  29. Ginya says:

i definitely vote for Jace. I’ve never like vampires or fey, I’m really a werewolf person. Peeta’s nice, i guess, but i developed a grudge against him early in the series, and i was never able to overcome it enough to like him. the one character who might be able to compete with Jace in my affections is Will Herondale, from the infernal devices (same author as TMI), but i’m going to wait until the second book in the trilogy comes out before i consider ousting Jace from his ultimate-book-hottie throne. 😉

  30. Mena says:

jacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejacejace <3 (i just love his name, a-mazing!)

    O boy, i think i'm in love 🙂
Lovee Jace, even though he's so darn annoying and i ALWAYS want to, like, chuck a vase at him, it's so hot!

If there was one hottie in the world, man, it would so be Jace Lightwood/Herondale.
When I first got the series, I read them all in a week. And when i finished one book and was waiting to get the second, i was seriously in torture and pain. Thats how much i love these series. Seriously, I've read all the other series here except for Iron Fey and I'm only half-done VA, but TMI rocks.

    jace all the way.

  31. georgia says:

i love jace hes hot i love him . he may not my sensitive but when he shows no emotion hes just gets better.i need a jace . hot attractive and so dam sexy .

  32. Leticia says:

Ginya, it was a bit foolish of you to do that, but at least you read them all, and now you can enjoy the fourth book:) oh, and I’m counting down, only ten more days!!! XD

  33. bounitt says:

I just love Dimitri! DIMITRI ALL THE WAY

  34. Lena says:

    Only Dimitri!!!

  35. Jaimie says:

I know it is not a “big” book. But I have to mention Trent Hunter from the Black Cougar of Vernon Secondary by Marisa Chenery or my niece will disown me. She can’t stand to read, but I gave her that book the first week of summer vacation and had her read it. She’s reading it for the fifth time. She’s in love with him. It is too cute!

  36. Betty says:

Although i like Twilight, there is no possible way I’d vote for Edward. Dimitri is sooo better than him! 😀

  37. Annie says:

    DIMITRI! <3 no competition… at ALL! 😀
Where's Patch (Hush, Hush) though? He's HOT! xP

  38. LoveVampires says:

  39. Daina says:
