Over the last two weeks, those who entered our Nightshade giveaway* told us which love interest from a young adult novel tops their list. We expected Vampire Academy’s resident Russian hottie Dimitri Belikov to top out (he did), but almost always his name was in the same breath as that snarky Shadowhunter Jace Wayland from The Mortal Instruments series.
On a side note, we’re with everyone else in lobbying for Alex Pettyfer to play Jace in the forthcoming City of Bones (TMI #1) movie. Bells and I confirmed we don’t have to feel like dirty old ladies for swooning for Pettyfer, so enjoy the eye candy.
That, however, got us thinking. When we looked at all the entries, we knew more of you would like to weigh in. And plenty of the comments told us you — like the VBC — don’t mind putting yourselves in teenage shoes to swoon over the likes of Dimitri, Jace, Ash, Edward and Peeta. (Lots of love for the boy with the bread.)
So, let’s make it a poll. The top five from the contest entry comments have been put in the poll below — but you are welcome to write in your own suggestions, just be sure to leave a comment with your write-in, too.
We’ll also say we expect some new YA swoon-worthy boys in 2011. We can promise you’ll get a HBWS in Angelfire’s Will and a surprise love interest in Unearthly.

I had to go with Dimitri because I’m 33 and he’s a man, but let me tell you … Peeta and Jace … it was a tough decision! I think if those three could be one person maybe it would be the absolute perfect man … Like more perfect than my favorite “old men” Eric Northman or Jericho Barrons! LOL!

duhhh peeta is the best … i mean yes i love all the others but peeta is just a regular boy not some superhero and he was willing 2 give up his life not once but twice for a girl he hardly knew … know that is amazing

All I know is that sparkly vampire Cullen is the worst, and if all the others were combined, I would marry that guy. :O Every time my mouse hovers over one of the buttons, my brain tells me, “NO!” and I have to move it to another button, which leads to another “NO!” from my brain. *headache*

Am I the only one who didn’t like Jace? I found him arrogant and irritating, not hot. Plus more, but I don’t want to risk causing trouble 😉 I don’t mean any disrespect to those who do like him, I just couldn’t care less.
From that list, Dimitri. I adore him! Followed closely by Ice Prince Ash. Peeta is another I’ve never found hot, but give me Gale any day!!! And Edward is like Jace, I don’t get why people think he’s hot.
Others: Tucker from Uneathly = *swoon* and beats Dimitri for me. I also love Will in Angelfire, and the other guy I’d add to the list is Tod from Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers! I adore Tod <3

This is like the hardest decision of my life. I love Dimitri. He’s amazing. I love him way more than any other VA character. But I also love Jace. He’s sarcastic and awesome. Ash is also really incredible. Damon Salvatore is pretty beast too. (Books, not TV). I also love any of the Redferns from LJ Smith’s Night World. Oh, and all of the Drake brothers from Alyxandra Harvey’s Drake Chronicles. (Especially Nicholas and Quinn). Edward isn’t hot or romantic or anything. He’s just and ugly homeless person. I don’t know what to do! And I just typed an entire paragraph and you all probably think I’m weird now. Oh, well.

I absolutely adore Jace because he doesn’t want this feelings to really be shown — he’s like a puzzle that’s almost too hard to crack.
Dimitri is close though. I did fall for him when I started reading VA, but Jace is definitely and will always be my all time fave!
