Poll: Your Favorite Book of the Year?

logo

VBC's Best Books of 2013We’re finalizing the Vampire Book Club Best of 2013 list. It’s pretty epic this year, as we’re incorporating all our reviewers’ choices into one definite list. While we make those final decisions and get the post put together, we are missing one more component of our annual list: your pick.

We always have a readers’ choice title, and we need VBC readers to tell us what book was their absolute favorite. Yes, just one. We know that’s ridiculously hard and kind of evil of us, but that’s why you like us.

To encourage you to narrow your pick down to just one book published in 2013, we’re making it a giveaway. Submit your pick for the best book of 2013 via the Rafflecopter form below and you’ll be entered to win any book we’ve reviewed (hundreds and hundreds of options). Open internationally, provided the Book Depository ships to your location.

In the meantime, check out our Best Of lists from 2012, 2011 and 2010.

  1. Alison says:

Wow – so difficult to choose – and then making sure you had reviewed as well!

  2. Aliyah says:

I loved (totally and completely) Kate Locke’s newest book Long Live the Queen. It’s the third book in the Immortal Empire series and though you should read them all, this one turned out to be the best one yet.

    • Mags says:

I loved this series too. The addition of goblins make her world unique! But the last book felt so much more serious than the first two. Not a bad thing, necessarily, but weird to me.

  3. Joanne says:

Written in Red: a novel the of others. Anne Bishop. Most unexpected read of the year .

  4. Danielle H says:

So hard. But maybe Magic Rises.

  5. Colleen C. says:

These are always difficult because the good books are all good for a specific reason but not all the same reason. Magic Rises is the book that I kept thinking “holy sh*t” through most of so it tops my list this year.

  6. Amy says:

Magic Rises was great! Definitely on my list.

  7. Melinda says:

Ooo, I voted before I read here. I went for Written in Red too.

  8. Danielle Nguyen says:

Definitely Magic Rises. I don’t think I’ll ever find a series I love more.

  9. Dawn Cavenee says:

I love all books by Darynda Jones! What a great author!!

  10. Emily says:

Yeah really hard for me to pick. But did pick Darynda Jones, though it was difficult to leave Ilona Andrews behind.

  11. Amber says:

So, so many good books this year, but I picked Fifth Grave Past the Light.

  12. elizabeth ziko says:

    That is so hard!!

  13. Brandy says:

This is a toss up for me Ever After by Kim Harrison or Fifth Grave Past the Light by Darynda Jones.

  14. Meagan N says:

    Easily Magic Rises!

  15. Manna says:

This is really hard since I’ve read soo many good books this year but I think it boils down to staying true to my favourite series of all time. Gotta support those Black Dagger Brothers!

  16. Mags says:

I think Magic Rises was the best book, but it would be much easier for me to make a top 10 list.

    • Mags says:

Since this doesn’t count as my vote I actually can make a list 🙂 So in no particular order:

      Magic Rises
      Ever After
      Chimes at Midnight
      Fifth Grave
      Wicked as She Wants
      Biting Bad
      Tempt the Stars
      Heart of Venom

  17. mia says:

Voted for Emperor of Thorns by Mark Lawrence. It was on my list of most anticipated books for the year because it was the last book in his Broken Empire series. It wrapped up the trilogy beautifully and satisfyingly.

  18. Nicole1000 says:

I loved a lot if books but I read written in red over and over.

  19. Sara L. says:

I went with Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews, but it was a close call with Written in Red by Anne Bishop.

  20. Ayana says:

It was a close one between Magic Rises and Crown of Midnight for me. Although in the end Magic Rises wins! Because witty and badass Kate will always be my favorite!

  21. Jo Wood says:

Magic Rises was my favorite, but a close second would have to be Blood in the Valley by J.K. Hogan.

  22. Mary B says:

Reyes and Darynda Jones has my vote!

  23. Krista says:

    Ever After! No question.

  24. Christine Faithful says:

This is so hard, but I will have to go with Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews. It was hard to choose between that book and the books by Darynda Jones, Anne Bishop and Patricia Briggs!

  25. Melanie says:

There are so many good choices, but I think I have to go with Magic Rises. I would also give callouts to Cold Blooded by Amanda Carlson, Night Blade by J.C. Daniels and Touch & Geaux by Abigail Roux.

  26. Danielle says:

Can I vote Touch of the Demon. Technically, it released 2012 but honestly, 12/31/12 should count for 2013.

  27. Brenda R. says:

I loved both “Blood Trade” by Faith Hunter and “Ever After” by Kim Harrison. 🙂

  28. michelle b. says:

Always love to learn about new series here! My vote goes to “Blood Trade” by Faith Hunter, the latest installment of the Jane Yellowrock series. If you don’t know Jane (and Beast) yet, you’re late to the party!

    Magic Rises!

  33. SharonS says:

can’t wait to see the winner! thanks 🙂

  34. Dawn Roberto says:

Lots of great reviews this year. Had so many choices to choose from but I think for myself it was Julie Kagawa’s The Iron Traitor that called to me. Amazing series and just kept getting better

  35. Eva Millien says:

Wow! That is so difficult. Lots of my favorite author’s had great books out this year and I have added lots of great authors to my evergrowing list. I had to narrow it down and then narrow it down again. Ultimately I had to go with Sherrilyn Keyon’s Styx. Not only was it a great addition to the series and to Acheron’s book. This book engaged my emotions and really brought Styx’s story to life.

  36. Brandy says:

Very hard choice, but I have to go with Written in Red. I just read it last week, I was looking for a new author, and couldn’t put it down!! Loved it!!

  37. Stephanie F. says:

Wow that’s a tough choice. Their were some really great books released this year. Magic Rises, Chimes at Midnight, Fifth Grave, Ever After and most recently Long Live the Queen.
If I had to pick just one I’d have to say Magic Rises. I love the series and this was a great installment that was a big turning point in the series.

  38. Wattsy says:

I vote for Blood Trade by Faith Hunter!

  39. Joani S says:

Wow- there are so many to chose from…I had to go with my favorite of all favorites—Affliction buy Laurell K Hamilton…Anita Blake is my absolute favorite series (with Merry Gentry a very close 2nd) 😉

  42. pklagrange says:

Written in Red: A Novel of the Others was my very favorite book this year. It was just amazing.

  43. Anne Rindfliesch says:

Affliction by Laurell K. Hamilton – love her.

  44. jessie says:

Really hard one. I loved “Cold Days.” “Ever After,” and “Magic Rises.”

  45. Patti A says:

I voted Ever After but I am so far behind on my reading that I just added at least five books to my to read list. I just requested three from the library including Magic Rises I can’t wait to read that one.

  46. Zany Rin says:

Oh wow it’s so hard to narrow down to one top favorite! Thanks for hosting and for a chance to win. Happy Reading and Good Luck to All!

  47. Kristin D says:

Fifth Grave by Darynda Jones, Chimes at Midnight by Seanan McGuire, & Biting Bad by Chloe Neill

  48. Susan H. says:

Ugh…….which one????? I’m on my 130th book for the year (yeah, I need a life!) and have 10x that many waiting to be read, some old and some new. So I decided to go with the most emotionally wrenching (to me) and chose J. R. Ward’s “Lover At Last.” Some other choices (I won’t number them because they were all great-): Darynda Jones “Fifth Grave Past The Light”, Sherrilyn Kenyon’s “Styxx”, J. R. Ward’s “Possession”, “Hunted” by Kevin Hearne (LOVE me some Atticus & Oberon!), “Odd Interlude” & “Deeply Odd” by Dean Koontz (not vampiric, but supernatural). So many books, so little time!

  49. Angela says:

    Mx top 5:
    Magic Rises
    Ever After
    Fifth Grave
World After (finally it came out)
    Touch of the Demon

  50. Jan says:

Just the one? Aarrgh, too hard to choose! Anything by Chloe Neill is always good!
