Could Sophia Bush be our Rose Hathaway?
Last week Richelle Mead announced Vampire Academy has been optioned for a film by Preger Entertainment. (You may all cheer now.) Options are just that, though. The film is in the baby phase of producers pitching it to studios. So, while it may or may not happen (read Richelle’s reminder about not getting our hopes up), we can all start thinking about our dream cast.
It’s time to play armchair casting director! We nudged a few of you on Twitter for your suggestions, added our own, and here are the top picks for actors to portray our three leads: Rose, Dimitri and Lissa.
Rose Hathaway
Dhampir. Fiesty. Stubborn.
1. Sophia Bush (pictured top right). You know her from the TV series One Tree Hill. (Shhh! She was also in that movie John Tucker Must Die.)
Ben Barnes as Dimitri? Maybe.
2. Nikki Reed. Don’t be like that, readers. She is more than Twilight, and can be hard a la Thirteen. My only concern is she may not be able to look young enough. Remember, she’s naturally a brunette (see what we mean).
3. Missy Peregrym. She’s been on a slew of TV shows including Reaper and Life as We Know It and starred in the movie Stick It. (See a photo)
Dimitri Belikov
Guardian. Russian. Controlled.
1. Ben Barnes (pictured right). Prince Caspian could pull off that Eastern European accent, right?
2. Taylor Kitsch. You’ve seen him in on TV’s Friday Night Lights and the X-Men prequel movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine (he played Remy LeBeau). Enough talk, just view the picture.
Dianna Agron: From cheerleader to reluctant royal?
Vasilisa “Lissa” Dragomir
Moroi. Royalty. Spirit User.
1. Hayden Panettiere. The cheerleader from Heroes has the Moroi look (photo).
2. Julianna Guill. Lesser known, for sure. She’s been on TV in short runs and in movies like Friday the 13th, but we’ll but her in the maybe pile for Lissa. (See the photo)
3. Dianna Agron (pictured right). Another cheerleader, this time from Glee. While on the show her look is more fierce than Lissa would ever want, she has the right Moroi physique and can look very soft. If you’re going to be Lissa you need to be a bit willow-y.

Dimitri is defiantly a yes in my eyes, I haven’t seen a perfect Lissa, so I like her casting here, and I have NO complaints for Rose!

if there going to publish who might play rose,dimitri,and lissa they might as well list the rest of the characters. i dont think those guys that might play dimitri are as cute as rose describes him. i havent seen any of thier movies but i hope it sounds hot when they say “roza” though

personally i feel that IF they are thinking about making VA into a movie they should use ordinary people like you and me to make it more realistic about the realities of what rose has to go through and how she perceives what she has do deal with in life i mean if richelle mead casts nobodys then i think its more believeable i mean look at Rpattz he was a nobody and now hes a global phenomenom thats just one persons opinion though i dont know what youre feelings are on the subject

while i agree with the majority of your choices i think adrian is wrong as well as queen tatiana.
Adrian should be played by either ian sommerhalder or chace crawford, he has the age and can pull off the bad boy look so well.
as for queen tatiana i havnt decided but im sure theyll find someone whos right.

ya make sure they are teen agers or it would but dumb and it would mess the book up really it would and is rose goin to be in any more book bc if not im not going to read it any more if she is out for a lil bit then ya but i just hope she comes back in it bc she is the main person in it and make dimitri hot really hot and big
Dimitri is RUSSIAN, not Romanian, but ok.
Dimitri needs to be masculine and though Ben Barnes can do the accent, i think Taylor Kitch could actually pull Dimitri off.
As for Rose, Sophia Bush is great.

i think rose hathaway should have the dark, olive tan turkish look she has in the book and she should be short in and curvy as it portrays her…. not like all these super tall thin girls that are being shone, those are like the moroir get it right!!. and i think these cast members should have some new people in it. and i definitally think they should nothave some tall thin girl in there as rose! it says SHORT. and i hate it when they mess up the characters

hit tht tall&sexy part, but his hair def does. So thts why i think Ian Somerhalder wuld make a great Dimitri…&thts only if there is a film.
I think they are all toooooo old they are in high school (well not Dimitri but he is close). I think you should get a ‘new’ group of people for the cast. If you do pick new people go to a HIGH school to pick the cast… go to a school in a place ware there is not a lot of sun the kids in VA go to school in the darkness they should be at least a little pale.
I would like to see Odette Yustman as Rose, Taylor Kitsch as Dimitri, and Dianna Agron as Lissa. Not only because they have the physical qualities, but i can see all of them playing the characters correctly.. Ben Barnes would be a good Dimitri, but i cant see him being able to show control and look gorgeous doing it like Dimitri does a lot in the book. I want to be able to connect to the movie as i did the book and thats only going to happen if the cast can really get into their characters. I dont want for this to be another twilight movie and hate it because the characters didnt play it good enough. Just saying….

Here are the main characters in all the books:
Rose Hathaway: Sophia Bush — She has the look & she looks like she could have an attitude as well. She is 5’4 & a size 2 so she could pull it off easily.
Dimitri Belikov: Ben Barnes — He also has the look & isn’t super tall (6 ft) but he’s taller than Sophia. If you have ever seen him act (Prince Caspian) He is good looking can speak with any accent & is a good actor.
Lissa Dragomir: Dianna Argon — She has the blonde hair, she’s skinny, she’s pale, & she can have that caring & sweet attitude. I think she would be a great Lisssa.
Adrian Ivashkov: Chace Crawford — He can have the messy hair & He is tall. In Gossip Girl he already “drinks” a lot and he kind of has the same attitude as Adrian.
Christian Ozera: Keegan Allen — He is in Pretty Little Liars & portrays the dangerous but quiet & sweet boy perfectly.
Tasha Ozera:Kelly Hu — I think from the pictures I have seen, she looks perfect for the part. Gorgeous & can fight
Janine Hathaway: Julianne Moore — She is still pretty but looks very mature. If she is short I think she would be great
Mia Rinaldi: Annasophia Robb — I found her and thought she would be perfect. She has that little girl look to her
Queen Tatiana: Julie Andrews — She has the perfect Queen attitude. I love her
Eddie Castile: Josh Hutcherson — He still has that boyish look when he smiles, but he can look very mature at the same time. Just like Eddie.

I definitley think that Taylor Momsen should play Mia. She’s perfect!!! I also think that Nikki Reed would be a TERRIBLE Rose!
Sophia Bush should play Rose, and Teresa Palmer should play Lissa.

I think that Sophia Bush would make a great Rose. She’s pretty, yet she looks like she could kick some major butt. Ben Barnes would make a great Dimitri too. Laura Ramsey would make a good Lissa. She’s skinny, has fair skin, and she’s blonde.
Check out Max Chmerkovskiy from Dancing with the Stars….he would make an excellent Dimitri (super hot)

My choice was immediately made!
1) As Rose: Missy Peregrym; I don’t want it to be like Twilight so I think niki’s out of the question, and I just don’t think that Sophia fits the strong character of Rose.
2) As Dimitri: Taylor Kitsch; I just don’t think that Ben is rough enough to play Dimitri.
3) AS Lissa: Dianna Agron; I don’t know but she fits the way I had Lissa imagined in my head! and+ I really like her eyes!
