Could Sophia Bush be our Rose Hathaway?
Last week Richelle Mead announced Vampire Academy has been optioned for a film by Preger Entertainment. (You may all cheer now.) Options are just that, though. The film is in the baby phase of producers pitching it to studios. So, while it may or may not happen (read Richelle’s reminder about not getting our hopes up), we can all start thinking about our dream cast.
It’s time to play armchair casting director! We nudged a few of you on Twitter for your suggestions, added our own, and here are the top picks for actors to portray our three leads: Rose, Dimitri and Lissa.
Rose Hathaway
Dhampir. Fiesty. Stubborn.
1. Sophia Bush (pictured top right). You know her from the TV series One Tree Hill. (Shhh! She was also in that movie John Tucker Must Die.)
Ben Barnes as Dimitri? Maybe.
2. Nikki Reed. Don’t be like that, readers. She is more than Twilight, and can be hard a la Thirteen. My only concern is she may not be able to look young enough. Remember, she’s naturally a brunette (see what we mean).
3. Missy Peregrym. She’s been on a slew of TV shows including Reaper and Life as We Know It and starred in the movie Stick It. (See a photo)
Dimitri Belikov
Guardian. Russian. Controlled.
1. Ben Barnes (pictured right). Prince Caspian could pull off that Eastern European accent, right?
2. Taylor Kitsch. You’ve seen him in on TV’s Friday Night Lights and the X-Men prequel movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine (he played Remy LeBeau). Enough talk, just view the picture.
Dianna Agron: From cheerleader to reluctant royal?
Vasilisa “Lissa” Dragomir
Moroi. Royalty. Spirit User.
1. Hayden Panettiere. The cheerleader from Heroes has the Moroi look (photo).
2. Julianna Guill. Lesser known, for sure. She’s been on TV in short runs and in movies like Friday the 13th, but we’ll but her in the maybe pile for Lissa. (See the photo)
3. Dianna Agron (pictured right). Another cheerleader, this time from Glee. While on the show her look is more fierce than Lissa would ever want, she has the right Moroi physique and can look very soft. If you’re going to be Lissa you need to be a bit willow-y.

If this movie ever gets made I sincerely hope they will not be casting Sophia Bush as the lead! I love OTH, but she is not a teen!
If this movie is gonna be believable and true to the books, than I reckon a cast of young actors is the only way to go.
And Taylor Kitsch is hot, and defo rocks the long hair, but again, he’s just too old!!
Ben Barnes is too old as well, and in my eyes he’s not Dimitri material, he’s to soft… not rugged enough, does not have a Russian feel to him… LOL
will have a think now and keep my eyes open for actors I feel would do the books justice…
i dont rthink the age matters but dimitri need to be tan, rued and more muscled, diana argron would be perfect for lissa and sahrah is best for rose she got attitude and know who to use it as proven in OTH
i have been saying that the vampire academy books should be turned in to a movie for years now. i am a big fan so i hope that they can make it into a movie.
i dont think he should be dimitri he has to be way hotter cause rose is good looking but dimitri has to be hotter lik a god lol cause thats vwhat he is like in the books
i absolutly LOVE vampire acdemy ive read all the books and i dont think ben barnes should play dimitri i think Jared Padalecki from supernatrual should play him. i love jared and i think he is HOTT and fits the description of dimitri!

and the reason why ben barnes just doesnt seem right is because his facial features just seem all wrong i CANT explain it jared padalecki looks like he could pull off a russian and he is sexy and ttall and hass brown eyes i really want jared to play him!
Ben Barns is not hot Dimitris character should b played by someone hotter
um no to the rose. she is to dark for someone who does not go out in the sun alot. irish and turkish. and her hair is surpose to be dark brown almost looks black. but other than that see looks decent enough to play rose. i think the girl on the book cover is perfect. someone like her would be perfect
rose is supposed to be a little darker because of the fact thats shes turkish which she always says is because of her father even though she doesnt get much sun she still darker
the girl for lissa is okay i thought maybe someone who looked a lil more innocent looking. she looks really old like 20 something. so someone who looks younger and sweet would be better
I think Sophia Bush looks like she could be a okay Rose if her hair was dyed darker but I would love for Genevieve Cortese to play Rose… I don’t really like Ben Barnes for Dimitri he doesn’t seem god like lol.. Andrei Andrei would be the perfect Dimtri! As for Lissa I don’t like any of those actresses for her I really like Hayden Panettiere but I don’t think shes looks like how a Moroi would be built.. I think Blake Lively that played on Sisterhood of the Traviling pants would be good Lissa..
the rose and dimtri look good but lissa looks older than roes witch should be the opposite i love the books anyways 🙂 <3
i think Missy Peregrym should be Rose. then Taylor Kitsch for dimitri. And Hayden Panttiere as Lissa. they are the best shoices in my opinion.
Oh Emm Gee! Vampire Academy is a truly “different” vampire series. Unlike some books/movies, Vampire Academy is “bad” (the good bad) and it is not ALL about love. I have been waiting on when there would be a day when they would finally REALIZE that this book is truly good enough to be a movie(s). I’m hoping for the best!

I don’t think any of the roses are good. They are all to OLD. Sophia bush is right now 29! she looks her age if not older. Megan fox looks tooo old and FAKE to be rose. Anyone can tan, & die thier hair. I really want to see a Beautiful YOUNG unknown or new actress. Dimitri Taylor wins it hands down. He is tan (he is out in the sun alot! guarding people! duh!) Built since he is suppose to be a guardian. and Drool worthy. He looks about the right age! and Lissa i go for Julianna Guill the one that no one really knows.
None of the actresses for Rose are right! Their all too old.
Nikki Reed is already in a Vampire movie thats going to be confusing to ppl.
I like Ben Barnes for Dimitri though! No complaints there.
As for the rest of the cast I’d like to see new young actors, not already big ones like the Twilight cast.
You want this movie to be new and different and waayy better then that!!
Dianna Agron seems a bit too old to play the character of lissa
but sophia bush and ben barnes are perfect for the role of rose and dimitri
If Ben Barnes does not play Dimitri then I will be more than surprised. he fits the bill perfectly I know he can do it better than any other. They way he was described in the book might as well have been Ben!! I do like the idea for Sophia Bush as Rose too. Obviously Hollywood knows how to make people older and younger so I think it would work. 🙂
I LOVE Ben Barnes. If he doesn’t play Dimitri, then I think I might die. I love him to death.
I am in love with vampire academy ever since I started reading it. I really hope that they make a movie so, for Rose I suggest Missy Peregrym, for Dimitri Taylor Kitsch, and for Lissa Laura Ramsey.

my perfect rose is on the covers on the books, Ben Barnes is sexii enough to play Dimitri but with Lissa she needs a younger look too her a pure innocent look. xx all in for the movie can’t wait <3
Sophia Bush is DEFIANTLY perfect for the role a Rose! She can play the stubborn, strong girl yet can get emotional when needed!! She is stunning just like rose and has the same ‘image’ I would have painted Rose as. I’m not too keen on Ben Barnes as Dimitri, he is a little too scrawny! I think anyway! Maybe Taylor Kitsch.. not sure!!! And I think Dianna Agron would be perfect for Liss!!! She has that sweet, innocent look that Lissa has and very similar looks; Blonde hair, pale skin etc I can’t wait to see who gets picked!! Hope there great choices!!! Oh NO MEGAN FOX!!!! She would RUIN the movie(s)!!!!
I agree, Sophia Bush would be an epic Rose and Ben Barnes is soooooo HOT! He fits Dimitri’s description perfectly. Dianna Agron would be an awsome Lissa, but with green contacts! I lurve Vamp Academy and rekon they’d make the perfect cast. Anyone who disagree’s doesn’t know what they’re on about!
Ben Barnes is extremely hot, but not dimitri. I think everyone just likes him because he has long hair like dimitri should. I think Jared Padalecki is hot too, and I like him okay, but I mean…he’s just not that great of an actor. Sure you want everyone to look how they are described in the books, but you also want someone who is good at acting. I think Henry Cavill would be a good dimitri, Lyndsey Fonseca as Rose, and either Dianna Agron or Teresa Palmer as Lissa. Also, Either Travis Caldwell or Ethan Peck as Christian, though Ethan might be a bit too old. Even though they’re all older, they can pull off playing 17 year olds. I have a feeling they’re going to cast actors we haven’t even heard of before. It’s a great opportunity to look for new talented actors that need a break.

I think Eliza Dushku would be the perfect Rose. Ben is ok for Dimitri, but he will need a 6 pack or more to pull off the sexy body shots
I agree with Eliza Dushku (I love her to bits) except she’s not young enough. but if they changed the story to make the characters older (which people do sometimes from books to movies) she would be the perfect Rose, hands down.
i love Sophia Bush i can kinda see how you would think shes to old but she played this part very close to what rose is like when she was in one tree hilll or even in john tucker must die.
he i can see it but i thought as Dimitri as like a bad boy he’s a little to prep to play him maybe with some scruff

Ben barnes does not look the part of dimitri, he is supposed to be older than rose and he looks around the same age..i love the books..and my choices would HAVE to be..

yes i think those would be really good characters…. especially dianna agron yea i have read the series twice now and ive been wanting it in theaters.
well i kinda like ben barnes for dimitri although i always pictured megan fox or jessica stroup for rose. i also think rupert grint would be good for mason if his hair was shorter,and i think zooey deschanel would be great for tasha ozera
I think Selena Gomez would make a great Rose. Never thought of it until I saw this page but suddenly I think Dianna Agron would be perfect as Vasilisa Dragomir.
Gregg Sulkin would also be good as Mason (not a very important character), as for Dimitri I have no idea, no one in Hollywood lookes like what I expect of Dimitri and for one of my favorit-character: Adrian Ivashkov I have no idea as well.
i think sophia is the best rose i really want to kill who says megan fox should play rose :/ i still couldnt find my best dimitri but from the opportunities ben barnes is the best of them…second choice is jared padalecki…i think your lissa is too old to play and not that sweet look on her face i think lissa should be elisabeth harnois some people say that blake lively but blake is looking tooooo hard to play her my dream cast is

i totally agree with sophia bush for rose and ben barnes for demetri, but not to sure about any of the actresses for lissa because she is supposed to have bright green eyes so you need to find someone with green eyes.
by the way remeber that christian and tasha have ice blue eyes as well.

I love Hayden Panettiere but I do not think she has the look they are looking for. I think the guy they have looks awesome. I think if they make this into a movie they should consider using fans to help with stuff. Because other then the author who else knows the books the best but the die-hard fans that felt part of the books. I love these books and I may have just started reading them but they are my favorite. But like I said they should try and find fans to help with casting(maybe even play someone themselves)
Also I think they should find someone that fits the characters and also looks some what of the age they should be.
I personaly picture Sophia as Brooke Davis, not Rose Hathaway.. Go on facebook and like my page : lydhia as rosemarie hathaway . I’ll post photos and videos for the audition! Thanks. I really think Rose should be played by an unknwon actress.
i am so stocked for this movie i agree with dianna however sophia would be bad ass i believe shes too old i believe dimitri should be aleksey chadov hes super hot and fits the bill plus hes from russia its a perfect match lol im keeping my fingers crossed for this!!!

I definitely think Ben Barnes is the PERFECT Dimitri. Sophia Bush looks like a good Rose in some of her photos, but she isn’t young enough. I’M one hundred percent AGAINST Megan Fox playing Rose. I love the series with a burning passion, but if she was casted as Rose, I’m done.
Theresa Palmer would be an amazing Vasilisa!!! she would work the part great! and i this Sophia Bush is amazing as Rose!!

i think that megan fox should be rose because although she may look fake, she has what the book describes as a curvy body and she is an actress that would still look beautiful when in action
