Could Sophia Bush be our Rose Hathaway?
Last week Richelle Mead announced Vampire Academy has been optioned for a film by Preger Entertainment. (You may all cheer now.) Options are just that, though. The film is in the baby phase of producers pitching it to studios. So, while it may or may not happen (read Richelle’s reminder about not getting our hopes up), we can all start thinking about our dream cast.
It’s time to play armchair casting director! We nudged a few of you on Twitter for your suggestions, added our own, and here are the top picks for actors to portray our three leads: Rose, Dimitri and Lissa.
Rose Hathaway
Dhampir. Fiesty. Stubborn.
1. Sophia Bush (pictured top right). You know her from the TV series One Tree Hill. (Shhh! She was also in that movie John Tucker Must Die.)
Ben Barnes as Dimitri? Maybe.
2. Nikki Reed. Don’t be like that, readers. She is more than Twilight, and can be hard a la Thirteen. My only concern is she may not be able to look young enough. Remember, she’s naturally a brunette (see what we mean).
3. Missy Peregrym. She’s been on a slew of TV shows including Reaper and Life as We Know It and starred in the movie Stick It. (See a photo)
Dimitri Belikov
Guardian. Russian. Controlled.
1. Ben Barnes (pictured right). Prince Caspian could pull off that Eastern European accent, right?
2. Taylor Kitsch. You’ve seen him in on TV’s Friday Night Lights and the X-Men prequel movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine (he played Remy LeBeau). Enough talk, just view the picture.
Dianna Agron: From cheerleader to reluctant royal?
Vasilisa “Lissa” Dragomir
Moroi. Royalty. Spirit User.
1. Hayden Panettiere. The cheerleader from Heroes has the Moroi look (photo).
2. Julianna Guill. Lesser known, for sure. She’s been on TV in short runs and in movies like Friday the 13th, but we’ll but her in the maybe pile for Lissa. (See the photo)
3. Dianna Agron (pictured right). Another cheerleader, this time from Glee. While on the show her look is more fierce than Lissa would ever want, she has the right Moroi physique and can look very soft. If you’re going to be Lissa you need to be a bit willow-y.

Lissa, is my favrotie character in the Vampire academy books(: Dianna Agron is my favorite actress/celbrity! When i saw that it was a possibility that Dianna Agron could possibly be Lissa i freaked and also im not joking that is always how i imagaied Lissa to look!!(: Dianna can be very soft and willo-y like you want because she is such an amzing actress and in her movie i am number four, she came off as a shy type of girl so she can act in many different ways! All im saying i si vote Dianna Agron for Lissa!!(: Please take this under consideration…. Thank you!
i think you guys would be making a good decision for making sophia bush as rose. as far as im concerned …well she seems like the only candidate that can pull off that badass role that were looking for here. and that, is what we can pull the rest of the characters out of as seeing if they tie in together… you have to look the part to play it. just saying.

We need a new cast with new people. Ilove sophia bush but seriously NO and ben barnes i a hottie but still NO we need new people. Sexy ones too. Why don’t we get a russian actor for dimitri a turkish actress for rose and some white person for lisa!!!!!

I think I should just start off with this.. Vampire Academy is one of the best books iv’e read and to cast actors that are already known, is a cry for help! If you already want to ruin the movie before it’s even produced then your heading in the right direction, by even thinking about the possibilities of having well known actors fill in the parts. The book is amazing and to turn it into an amazing movie as well, we need unknown actors, people that nobody knows about and that are well capable of filling in the roles of the strong personalities that these characters portray. Trust me people, having characters that people already know about play the roles of Rose or Dimitri,etc, won’t fit the novel the way it should. Because at that point, all you’ll have is actors attempting to fit the characters and interpreting the personalities in their ways. We need unknown actors that just simply fit the part because when they were cast all the castor could see or think was “This is Rose!”. So I am all the way for unknown actors, they are what will make the movie…. fresh faces! Yes you might be able to see certain actors or actresses for certain roles, but face it people, they are amazing actors but in what they are doing. I’m not saying they couldn’t play the parts, I’m just saying the movie won’t turn out the same! Unknown actors all the way! Bring some fresh faces to this movie! 🙂
I’m gonna be honest, I love this series but, with all I’ve read out there people are on to make the movie suck… People want to use actors that are already known, and even though they could perfectly play the parts it just doesn’t work. These people already played parts of young people, yeah, they made those work, but if you look at people the age of the characters of the books…then you see what you want to make doesn’t work anymore…not that they are too old for this, but this books give us the sense to understand that these characters are young, very very young, so I don’t think it’ll work if a 25 year old plays a 17 year old character…
We need new people here,we need new actors,unknown people that are out there waiting for an oportunity like this, people that are the right age to show just how young the characters are… and that make you think about the books just by looking at them…
But hey, I don’t make the decisions here…
…i just really think that all the options for rose and demitri are not good.
I think Sophia Bush is a good one for Rose but Maggie Q from Nikita would have been so much better! Unfortunately she looks a little too old. I think Dianna is good to play Lissa but Ben Barnes better have a Russian accent ..:P

If I had to pick for the given list Sophia Bush(rose), Ben Barnes(dimitri), and Hayden Panettiere. If I had to pick the characters I picture in my had has I was reading your novels i believe we should pick all new charatcer because the ones here are close to teenagers anymore. Also , everyone is forgetting that their are six novels and the making movie process takes time as well.If we had to build the cast for present day celebrities it would be , Sophia Bush as Rosa.Kirsten Prout as Lissa. For Dimitri it’s been difficult but it is between Ben Barnes and Taylor Kitsch ( if he is willing to dye his hair). in summation,i would honestly hope they find new faces to complete the series of movies like j.k rowling did when they began her series.

I love Sophia Bush and to be honest i always pictured Rose as her because in One tree hill the way Brooke(Sophia) was its exactly like Rose BUT we need fresh faces , totally new actors that will blow us away. By the way Sophia will look to old for Rose as the photo up there was in the first season of One tree Hill and there 8th and last season just ended so you could see how she’s gotten older. NEW ACTOR NEW FACES the best outcome will diffiantly exsist if that what happens. but everyone PRAY that this becomes a movie !
The people i think should play this cast are Sophia for Rose, Ben for Dimiti and Dianna for Lissa. If this becomes a movie it will be the best ever!!!!!! Good Luck!!

Marie Avgeropoulos is a way better rose she has millions on facebook that think she has the spunky, witty attitued and she is NEW only on moves as a backgrond girl she has to be rose she is EXCATLEY what we are looking for come on at lest if u reed this look her up on imdb.com cuz she kicks ass and has the whole look.
How about Zooey Deschanel for the part of Rose. She may be older but she has a young face and the fiercness of Rose. She would be perfect opposite Taylor Kitsch as Dimitri.
For Rose I see most people suggesting Megan Fox, but I feel that Jacqueline MacInnes Wood would be a better fit. Look her up. Seriously I think she is PERFECT
omg ben barnes as dimitri is sooo cool !!!! only if he works on accent coz i just love demitri !!! And for rose i think sofia bush will be perfect !!!

Brittany Robertson would be a great Lissa.
and honestly, I know everyone really doesn’t like him, but for Adrian in the second book, I think they could do Robert Pattinson. :p
as for Dimitri, I’m not really sure. I like Ben Barnes, but he doesn’t seem.. Hard enough I guess.
I think Sophia Bush is absolutley perfect as Rose! And i say Ben Barnes is best for Dimitri. And Hayden Panettiere is awesome for Lissa. There!

Yep i agree with new fresh faces… i mean come on! why on heart they keep making books into movies if the DO NOT even try to match the characters with the actors playing their roles… i’m not saying that they have to be perfect with the description of the characters but at least they should try!… otherwise they’ll ruin the movie…
Rose would be hard. She has to be funny and kick ass. For Dimitri, I’ve always pictured Jared Padalecki from Supernatural. He’s tall, built, can act and kick ass! Hate to stick with CW characters, but Ed Westwick for Adrian would be nice-a;)

Megan Fox is exactly how i pictured Rose to be… she totally has the body for her and even the looks.
same for Andrei andrei his just so hot and he really does suit Dimitri (i hope he has the russian accent). well thats how i imagined him to be lol for the other characters i agree with what Kristen said 🙂 and if you dont think so just search them up and see. thats what i did looool please at least someone agree with me
megan fox should play rose
The actor/actress for Dimitri and Lissa are fine with me, but I don’t like any actresses for the Rose role. Sophia Bush’s voice doesnt fit the voice of Rose, and Megan Fox is a definite no no for me. I have to really think about a proper actress who would be able to pull off that Rose character.
I’d prefer Rose Hathaway as Kristen Stewart… How’s that?

definately dianne for lissa, sophia for rose, and ben for dimitri…i think these characters fit the role perfectly (especially dimitri). good luck on making this series into a movie, cuz i reely love it and i cant wait to see it! :)<3
i agree that the cast should be unknown for the lead roles, but then again if a well known actor fits the character perfectly, then they should be cast. This is my friendd, shes an amateur actor, and she is increeddiblleeee. we both absolutely love the series and i honestly think if she is determined enough she can make it to an audition, but what does everyone think of her? would she suit Rose? Personally, I think she is perfect, but thats just me 🙂 oppinions?! <3

Ben is probably the closest person that Mead could find to the way she has described Dimitri. He has the hair, eyes, accent and he can pull of the whole “Death in a Cowboy Duster” thing. When I see all the other people who are supposedly up for the role of Dimka, I dont see the whole Guardian look in their eyes. Ben Barnes can pull it off. Also, he is gorgeous.

O.K. lets get something strait here ppl. Yes, using the same actors and actresses over and over again is tiring. But, using unknown ppl has no box office appeal!! If nobody knows anybody in the movie the movie looks low budget and WONT SELL! It doesnt make money if known faces airnt present.
Ok new faces are fine but the actors that are really good have experience and can play the part just fine. Its called acting for a reason! The people are pretending to b like rose and Dimka if you fine someone like rose then the person will be acting like herself and not like rose.

i think that all of the people they had already had in the pictures should be in the movie. I love love love ben, and i think he looks JUST like i would picture Dimitri. I also think that the cheerleader from Glee and the other girl for rose are the right choices. But i just want to point out one thing-two actually:rose has to be badassed and busty, curvy in the waist, with LONG dark dark brown hair. Lissa needs to be very pale with pale skin and wispy long (at least down to the middle of her back) pale blonde hair, she also needs to be super-model skinny-AKA long legs and lanky looking arms and body. And both need to look at least eighteen. Please take these considerations.
